Longview North / Mount St Helens KOA, Castle Rock, Washington

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This is the 1st TOTALLY NEGATIVE review I've done for a KOA and it is because of the owner. I was assigned site F4 just across and up the road from the "playground". The playground included a portable basketball hoop. Several older kids began to play ball and wild throws hit my motorhome 3 times and hit the motorhome on site H4 four times. I complained to the office as did site H4. After an hour the office staff had the kids go to another location to play ball. She said the hoop shouldn't have been there. The KOA owner then arrived and had the hoop relocated DIRECTLY IN FRONT of my motorhome and had the kids play basket ball there again. I complained to him personally and he threatened to escort me from the campground if I continued to make an issue of it. My motorhome was hit again with the basketball. I am incredulous at this owner's HOSTILITY and total DISREGARD for the KOA members, guests and their property at his park. We camped at Longview North / Mount St Helens KOA in a Motorhome.

Sampson Springs Campground, Decorah, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Sampson Spring RV Park is a sweet find in the lovely hills and farms east of Decorah. Be prepared for real peace, quiet and lots of privacy. Clean, gravel sites are very widely spaced about 50 feet apart on a grass court with young trees. Electric and water sites are along the west side of the court and you'll likely need double length electric cable and water hose to reach them. Most sites are level but you'll need to adjust on a few. I didn't use the restrooms or shower so can't comment. As of this review the campground only takes cash or check, there is no WiFi and the Verizon signal is weak but usable due to the beautiful high hills. See their website for additional info.

Lot's of birds for the birdwatchers and you'll likely see a local Bald Eagle or two (not buzzards). The owners are very nice and host a friendly 5 o'clock "Happy Hour" every day. Access to the Trout River is just across the street and the trout fishing is very good (license required). A high recommendation for a day or more stay. We camped at Sampson Springs Campground in a Motorhome.

Neligh Riverside Park, Neligh, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Neligh Park campground is an unexpected surprise. It is quiet, well kept and sites are on level and well mowed lawn. There are mature trees for shade at most of the sites and trash barrels throughout. Water pressure is good and the WiFi signal strength is excellent. Payment is cash or US check only. Really a great value when exploring northeast Nebraska. We camped at Neligh Riverside Park in a Motorhome.

Hams Fork Grill & RV Park, Kemmerer, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park is nothing to just pass by! It's really nothing to look at - you're looking at the back of the grill and a golf course. But the deal when I was there was this - spend $30 on food and beverages at the grill and the RV site is FREE. Ok, but what the deal doesn't tell you is how fantastic the food, beverage and service are. I can honestly say when I was there the food was outstanding and the service was far beyond expectations. The laundry equipment looks brand new and restrooms are clean. No showers. The only downside is the Wi-Fi connections are weak and some of the sites are level on gravel/grass, some are not. Just for the delicious food alone I'd recommend at least a night's stay, though. We camped at Hams Fork Grill & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Caballo Lake RV Park, Caballo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park is a gem. The sites are immaculately clean and the view of Caballo Lake and the Sierra de Los Caballos (mountains of the horses) from the park is fantastic. A very friendly park. Most likely you will meet new friends at the daily Happy Hour (BYOB) getting to know your neighbors. Good to know many have stayed here before and come back time and time again. Rate is nightly, but at $150 per month + electric it's the best deal in town. Good Wi-Fi and quiet, some road noise but no trains. Would stay again, and plan to in the future. I originally planned a 4 night stop-over but stayed 6 weeks in March/April. It's that nice. We camped at Caballo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to tour historic Chloride - a classic, Old West ghost town nearby, if time permits. Ask park owner about tours. City of Truth or Consequences is 16 miles north and offers dining, shopping, etc.

Carlsbad KOA, Carlsbad, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Carlsbad KOA is a pleasant oasis in southeast New Mexico. The sites are very roomy and well kept. The staff is friendly, supportive and responsive. The restrooms are spotless and the laundry facilities are clean and commercial-size equipment looks new. I liked the fact that this KOA is going green with the help of a wind turbine to generate some of its electricity.

One of the biggest surprises is the on-site caterer that will cook up a dinner and deliver directly to your site with a smile. The menu is awesome and the meals are delicious. This is a KOA Holiday so it offers more than the standard or Journey KOA's. Award winning for a reason - they go the extra mile for you. Nice experience. I would stay here again without a second thought. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.
