North Crest RV Park, Waco, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a no frills park. The roads are gravel, but each site has a concrete pad and patio. The staff is excellent and the owner will do all he can to make your stay pleasant. The wi-fi is excellent. The electric, water and sewer are great. The cable TV requires the use of one of the parks cable boxes. There are new picnic tables sitting on concrete and a grill at each site. The laundry is fine and reasonable. Very nice park to explore the Waco area. We camped at North Crest RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Don't miss the dig site for Columbian Mammoths. They also found a camel and remains of a Sabretooth Tiger. The site was excavated by Baylor University in Waco.

Whistle Stop RV Resort, Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Gravel roads in great shape. Each site has a concrete pad for the table and the sites are extra long and wide. The power, water, cable and sewer are great. The wi-fi is poor. The pool is very nice and the play area great. The staff is friendly and helpful. Wonderful park for exploring the Abilene area. We definitely would come back. We camped at Whistle Stop RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Don't miss the Frontier Texas Museum. The holograms are great. Each character told their story of the frontier in their own words. Super!

Tips for other Campers:

Visited Carlsbad caverns. It is about 40 miles from the KOA. In my opinion there was nothing better and any closer to the National Park. The Living Desert State Park was nice, it was more like a zoo, but nice.

Santa Fe KOA, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Roads and sites are gravel, but level. The neighbors are close, but not on top of you. This is the first time I have seen a prepared parking space for your tow vehicle, very nice. The sewer, power, water, cable tv, and wi-fi are very good. There is a game room with pool table and ping pong table. The grounds are neat, overall a clean facility. Easy access to I-25 and a good base to visit the sites in the area. There is no pool. We camped at Santa Fe KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Bandelier National Monument is 1 hr. away. This ancestral home of the Pueblos dating back 800 years. Los Alamos is about an hour away and is the site where Dr. Oppenheimer led the Manhattan Project (first nuclear bomb). It is nice to explore the Pecos Trail and Santa Fe Trail. There are old Spanish ruins at Pecos, NM. The old mission church there is from the 1500's.

Durango KOA, Durango, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

The roads and sites are gravel, but level. The electric, water, sewer, and cable are excellent. The wi-fi is okay. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The pool is nice. The $2 carpet golf was fun, but not the best upkept course. This is a good location to get on the steam train, Durango and Silverton. In my humble opinion a much better steam train ride is the Cubres and Toltec train from Alamosa, CO. to Charma, NM. We have been on both trains. We camped at Durango KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a family owned park and one family member lives on site. The staff very friendly and helpful. The roads and sites are gravel and have a patio and firepit. There is a privacy fence between us and our neighbors. All is level and kept in great shape. There are nightly free movies and miniature golf that is free. The pool is very nice. The water, electric, sewer, and cable tv are great. The wi-fi is very good, certainly above what is found in most campgrounds. We camped at Grand Junction KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very neat park and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The electric, water, sewer, and cable were fine. Wi-Fi was fair. The roads and sites are gravel, but level and okay to navigate. The park is perfect for visiting the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Garden of the Gods Campground, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $89.00
Overall Rating:

Asphalt roads and gravel sites. Picnic table with concrete pad. The electric, water, and sewer are great. Sites are extremely close. The staff is friendly and helpful and will even deliver your filled propane bottle to your site. The wifi and cable service is non-existent. AT&T phone service doesn't work well. The park is clean and neat and is centrally located to all the tourist attractions in the area. We stayed a week and saw a lot of RV Parks, but it seems Garden of the Gods is the best in the area. We camped at Garden of the Gods Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Pikes Peak, Garden of the gods, and the Air Force Academy are in Colorado Springs. The Royal Gorge is about an hour and half away in Canon City, CO. Famous Dave's BBQ is great and about 15 miles from the campground. Within a mile are Amanda's Fonda Mexican restaurant, very good and family dining at The Mason Jar which is also very good. Note, the campground is safe and seems to be undisturbed by the large number of homeless people wandering the streets about a half mile away.

Deer Creek Valley RV Park, Topeka, Kansas

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This park has double wide concrete roads and concrete pads. All sites are pull thru and the utilities are great, except for wifi. The sites are wide and offer a lot of room. The pool is great and it has a very nice playground. The staff is super nice. There is a BBQ restaurant next door, but it is only open a couple days a week. Easy access to interstate and visit Topeka. We camped at Deer Creek Valley RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a great family park just off the interstate. Has pull thru sites. The roads and sites are crushed stone. Each site has picnic table, and fire pit. The electric, water, cable and sewer are fine. There is a nice playground with an inflatable jumping pad as well as swings and sand pile. The pool is very nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. The store sells sandwiches and pizza that they will deliver to your site. The wifi is very good. We camped at Sallisaw / Fort Smith West KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Asphalt roads and pads are concrete with patio. All utilizes are great and the Wi-Fi works well. Cable TV is fine. This is a very nice campground. The pool is good and the laundry is very clean. The staff is nice and helpful. The only negative is very little shade. All trees are young. You are only 15 miles from Memphis, TN and about 20 miles to Tunica, MS casinos. Nashville KOA, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is well maintained and has a friendly staff. They led us to our site. All utilities worked well and the Wi-Fi is very good. The roads are asphalt and the sites are mostly crushed stone. Some upgraded sites are asphalt pull through. Ours was a pull through and was long enough for the TT and Truck. The pool is nice and the children's slide is cool - you enter from an underground tube. We camped at Nashville KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Opryland/Grand Ole Opry is about 10 minutes away. Use the back road - left out of the KOA and you can avoid heavy traffic. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Ryman Auditorium are downtown. Plenty of shopping and restaurants near KOA.

Creekside RV Park, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park before and the Wi-Fi has been greatly improved, it works very well. The roads are asphalt and sites are crushed stone. Each site is level and has a concrete patio. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pool is nice and the laundry is extremely clean. The whole campground is clean. The creek is pretty and has ducks. There is a street light to get you on Wares Valley Road and another to get you into the heavy traffic on the main drag through town. Those street lights are a valuable resource in this buy tourist town. We camped at Creekside RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Walnut Hills Campground (formerly Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA), Staunton, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty campground. There were flowers at our site. We were placed in a pull through that was on an upper road overlooking the park. Great view of campers below and the lake, but no shade at this site. Most sites were very shady. The park was clean. The roads are asphalt and the sites are crushed stone, with a table and fire ring. Statesville / I-77 KOA, Statesville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The staff are very nice and friendly and helpful. The park itself has a number of full timers. The roads are asphalt and the sites are gravel and grass. There are few full hook ups. I checked the bathrooms and showers and they were very clean. The laundry was clean. When driving in I saw the pool looked dirty. The pull through site we were escorted to was level, but water and electric only. We were then shown two back in sites that had cable, but again no sewer and the sites were very unlevel. We chose to leave and the management gave us a full refund and were very nice about it. It seems KOA has just not put the resources into the park that the staff need to manage it well. We camped at Statesville / I-77 KOA in a Travel Trailer.
