About koeka

My wife and I are avid Cyclist and got into the "camping" experience for the sole purpose of finding and exploring new locations where we can street ride. New England poses it's own challenges of finding flat ground with open road shoulders and less vehicular traffic, we hope to share what we find with fellow cyclists and in turn learn from others.

Riverview Campground, Lake George, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Peace and quiet with a serene view was what we were looking for and found it here. We were fortunate to find an opening right on the river and were greeted every morning with a beautiful mist and a family of ducks :)

Though it appears that it's a bit cramped it's not..the way the site is planned with a slight angle you do enjoy a decent size quiet area to relax. There is a 24 hr Price Chopper supermarket literally across the street which was a huge plus. One highway exit to downtown Lake George put us close enough yet far enough away from the crowds.

The campground offers kayak and canoe rentals, the river is very calm almost still which made paddling a breeze. Decent fishing for bass, sunfish and possibly trout. Great for adults, probably a challenge with small children to have fun on the grounds. We camped at Riverview Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Narrows Too Camping Resort - Thousand Trails, Trenton, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We took a tour of the Bar Harbor area via the free bus service which was offered and had a look at other RV sites...we feel we hit a home run with this place. Spacious and quiet with beautiful views of the water,
We were a bit close to RT 3 so there is a constant traffic noise and we're right near the airport so there's the occasional bi-plane and small jet, which being from NYC we could ignore. The areas is awesome, the free buses really come in handy. Very open and spacious sites and we're definitely coming back. We camped at Narrows Too Camping Resort - Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Martha's Vineyard Family Campground, Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

The biggest cost was the ferry ride over which was $370, once we arrived at the site it was well worth it. The area was quiet and removed from all the noise, the site was quiet and clean. The area is very shaded with lots of trees and minimum mosquitoes but lots of beetles which was a turn off.

What we love about the Island is that it's flat and very bike friendly, we're coming back. We camped at Martha's Vineyard Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Old Orchard Beach Campground, Old Orchard Beach, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

The site we were assigned was very clean and with new equipment, the staff was very helpful. A bit cramped and there are no views of really anything but a wall...considering how close we were to the beach it's a good spot.

We stayed only one night, so this is a great overnight stay which we did on our way to Bar Harbor. We camped at Old Orchard Beach Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tree Corners Family Campground, Irasburg, Vermont

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

If it weren't for the fact there is ZERO cell service I'd give this place a 5 star, wifi can be expensive if you're staying for a few days as you pay per day or can buy a package, though you are limited to only one device so you'd have to choose which to use if you have a laptop or smartphone, the wifi set up procedure made it virtually impossible to use our TV. Hey but it's camping right?

The grounds were very well kept, clean and spacious, full hook up was awesome. They have a more than adequate hot food market with snacks/ice cream and RV necessaries. The owners are vigilant with noise after hours which was awesome, the views from the park are incredible. If you're looking for flat roads to cycle which we do, RT 14 offers some spectacular riding through some great Norman Rockwell type settings.

We're talking boonville remote location, with a 15 min drive to Newport, VT. So if you're looking for quiet time with nowhere to go this is the place :) We camped at Tree Corners Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Getty Park, Jamestown, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We really lucked out in both finding this place and getting a last minute spot! The location is a peninsula with beautifully groomed lawn, spacious and incredible views of the ocean. Very quiet and serene, Jamestown had great little stores and restaurants. We cycle and will definitely come back to ride the Island for sure.

The dump site is at the entrance and a bit of a walk or slow drive if your dumping via a portable dump tank. There is a pier where you can fish and relax.

Bring a 50 foot power cord, depending on the site we barely made it with our 25 foot cord, same goes with your fresh water hose. We camped at Fort Getty Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Williams Campground, Lebanon, Connecticut

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Read the previous reviews and can see their point, the bathrooms were terrible. It's a country bumpkin place no doubt. Yet, if you're looking for some quiet time on a lake or quiet country roads the this will do. I'd not tent here but if you are self contained i.e. RV and don't mind using your own facilities then this is a good place.

It's quiet and right on the lake, good place for small kids to catch Sunfish and enjoy the lake, great views of the country and if you cycle then Route 207 is a good route, decent shoulders and challenging hills. Again, if you use your own facilities this is a good place, if you need to use theirs don't come here. We camped at Lake Williams Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Liberty Harbor RV Park, Jersey City, New Jersey

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $85.00
Overall Rating:

When we were driving through the city while enroute my initial thoughts of the surroundings was that I was making a big mistake. Once we turned off the main st to the RV park it went from a congested city to one that reminded me of Newport, RI. We can see huge private boats mooring and leaving the harbor. The view of Ellis Island and the the back of the Statue of Liberty was awesome.

It's not a pretty lot, it serves a purpose of water/electric but the views of the NYC skyline are incredible. The bathrooms were clean and the staff were accommodating. This is not a typical camping site as it's devoid of grass and trees etc. For it's location it is quiet.

If you're looking for the a typical camping experience this is not the place...if you're looking for a great value of staying in or near NYC this is definitely the place. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

It's a 10 min walk to the Grove St Path train station is what clinches this place for us. $2.75 trip and in 20 min you're on 34th St (Macy's) or the WTC site. The Grove St station is quiet with lots of small shops and restaurants more importantly a Starbucks as well.

You can also walk a few hundred yards and take the ferry for $7 which crosses the Hudson and leaves you near the Stanton Island Ferry. Also Delivery.com allowed us to order Chinese food which was brought to our Trailer.

Charlestown Breachway, Charlestown, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived early April and found only two other RV's in the park. Absolutely secluded and beautiful beach location. We own a 20' RV and since there's no dump station nor water AND you have limited grey/black tank storage you must conserve and be smart about use or you'll have to drive to the nearest dump site 15 min. You can use a generator but it's only allowed until 8 pm.

I've had family and friends stay here over the summer and its wall to wall campers with loud generators and cramped for space, the bathrooms in April were closed to us. If you're looking for serene and quiet I'd go off season as we will do so in the Fall. If they'd allow generators to go to 10 pm I'd give it a better rating. Not an issue if you have the larger RV's, a challenge if you have ones with limited power and water capacities. We camped at Charlestown Breachway in a Travel Trailer.
