J.B.'s RV Park & Campground, Benton, Arkansas

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Lots of nice tree cover.
The owner was very nice and showed us to our spot which was right by the entrance. They say they have 43 spots but I thing all but maybe 5 are taken by live ins. Most of the trailers look like they have been in the same spot for years. The permanent residents trailers are pretty run down but most of those are all in the back. Don't go on a walk to the back.

Our site had lots of dog poop around it, and no grass. The pull through was big, graveled and level. Full hookup. Quiet at night. They only take cash or check as payment. We camped at J.B.'s RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Gun Creek Campground - COE, Whittington, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Back in the woods or on the lake, there are plenty of sites to enjoy both. It was very pretty.

The sites near the lake are not level front to back and can be very extreme. Some campers were using up to 5 or 6 legos under each wheel. The slots are also pretty skinny but there were no trees to hinder you from backing in. Most sites in the woods were level.

The only real con was there are a lot of super stinky dumpsters. They are back right at the campsites, so if you get a campsite within 2 or 3 either way of the dumpster prepare for some super stink. We camped at Gun Creek Campground - COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

A skunk ran us off from our fire ring at night. Not the camps fault, just an interesting fact.

Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This place was super clean. The check in folks were very nice and helpful. Back ins were big and perfectly level, I saw no one using legos. The bike paths are all paved or nice cut grass. All bike paths are a 1 ranking for the challenging factor, (grandma could bike here).

They have weekend events and donuts for sale at the pavilion.
The camp sites had thick nice cut grass and asphalt pads, picnic tables and 30amp service. Fire rings at each site and fire wood was for sale at the campground store. The wood was $5 a bundle and was dry. They had bike rental but we brought our own.

The sites have pretty good privacy.

There are very nice easy hiking trails. There are a few lakes and one is even for kids under 16 stocked and our daughter easily caught 1/2 dozen sunfish. The lake and beach are within the park.

Fellow guests were nice whether it was tent, RV or TT. There were very nice camphosts in each section who were always present. Everything was quiet at night.

Nice dump station, they supplied the pipes so you didn't have to dig yours out and use them. This saved about 15 minutes.

There was nothing wrong with this place. We camped at Maumee Bay State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The lodge is close by as well. The food at the lodge was fair. We were there for 2 lunches.

We were alsp there for a Sunday brunch and it was VERY good. Not just a stupid hotel breakfast.

Magnolia Forest RV Park, Magnolia, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

A new CG. Gravel drives but cement pads. Gated with code. Had SWE, Satellite, wifi. We did not use sat or wifi so no report there. From our walk around the CG it looks like over 90% of sites are booked with residents. Our site and 1, maybe 2 others for sure were for stop over folks like us. All the residents appeared nice.

It has a big dog play area with no poop in it. A nice fishing lake with 12+ inchers in it, nice grass area for yard games or what not, nice camp host, nice little hiking trail in the woods, quiet day/night.

Small ding for no picnic tables at sites yet, (remember this place is new) also no bathroom or showers (which we never use at CG anyway, that is why we have a TT).

It looks like they are developing another nice section next to the lake for pull thru sites. We camped at Magnolia Forest RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Yes, stay at this place. Should be and is a hidden gem. There are other CG in the area which are dumps so be careful to book this one as the others are named similarly.

Fowler Park, Terre Haute, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Everything in "damonbeals" review is still accurate. Things that did stand out were the clean restrooms and the historic village which were nice. The turnarounds at the end of each loop were very tight, be aware of this if you have maybe something over 27 ft. The gate does close at 10 PM but the office personnel stops taking in new arrivals at 9 PM. We called as we were going to be maybe 10 minutes after 9 PM and they were super accommodating and told us not to worry.

Many of the fellow travel trailers were mostly showing some age but things were very quiet during the day and at night. We were just passing through so were only here an evening and into the lunch hour.

Yes we would stay here again. We camped at Fowler Park in a Travel Trailer.

Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA, Durant, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Flat and not many trees, nice grass, awesome clean cement pull-throughs. Full hookups. Nice pool, dog yard, indoor game room, and amazing nice restrooms and showers! Of course this is the place to stay for casino folks. Not a lot of nature. Fellow vehicles were mostly of high dollar. Nice and quiet at night. We camped at Durant / Choctaw Casino KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Hawthorn County Park, Terre Haute, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is an unrestricted county park so the trailers/vehicles were a lot older and vintage, lets say. The turnarounds at the end of each loop were pretty tight and we are in a 21' TT. We just stopped there the night so could not delve into the amenities but the staff was nice. We camped at Hawthorn County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Mammoth Cave National Park - Mammoth Cave Campground, Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

There were lots of deer around our campsite. The pull-through campsite was almost level and just a touch tight to maneuver. It was very close to the main office/entrance to the cave, good. General store, firewood they were selling was green, would not burn and we burn a lot in our woodburning stove so we know wood. We camped at Mammoth Cave National Park - Mammoth Cave Campground in a Travel Trailer.
