Saint Andrews State Park, Panama City Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here for 8 nights, and you'd think after the length of time we would have complaints. This isn't the case.

The park was clean and spacious. The bathhouses were clean and very well maintained. We watched the staff routinely close off the bathhouse for cleaning. It was, by far, the best location we have ever stayed. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Tent.

Buccaneer State Park, Waveland, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is clean, however this is generally due to campers who care enough about themselves and the earth to clean up after themselves. I will speak on the bathhouse which is responsibility of the park staff.

The women's bathhouse is distasteful and dirty. The condition is not a one day or even one week compilation. Two sinks have only hot water...yet the water begins lukewarm and takes two to three minutes before it is warm. The sinks were stained from lack of cleanliness and covered in swarms of pests.

The bathroom stalls were acceptable. Not too dirty. The showers were the biggest disappointment, as the handicap shower had a broken shower handle which caused the water to come out in one center spray and leak all down the wall. The others have extremely poor water pressure and they also have broken shower heads, therefore it took nearly ten minutes to rinse shampoo and soap out. Also, in those ten minutes the water began heating up only near the end.

The most disturbing discovery was the handfuls of hair in the corners and in the drains. Although, I realize it is common for this to occur in a woman's shower, there is no question that it had been quite some time since the showers were cleaned, as the hair and soap puddles had accumulated mold. This does not happen in a day.

Camping is not a luxury vacation, true, yet it would be nice to have a clean environment to attend to hygiene.

Quite frankly, a family would thrive better having their own facilities to set up on their individual site. We camped at Buccaneer State Park in a Tent.
