Fredericksburg, Texas KOA, Fredericksburg, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Decent park. If your rig is tall, don't go in at night. Taking the route to my site, one huge limb would have destroyed the roof of my rig. While the park employee was waving me forward, I stuck my head out and looked back. Stopped just inches from tearing off the ladder. Had to back up and pull through a space that was luckily vacant at the time to get to my spot. Cable was not usable at all. Did not use the WiFi. Once at the spot, nice and level with table.

This is the second KOA that I have had trouble with low limbs. For such a highly ranked campground, do they not realize that many of our rigs are over 13' tall? We camped at Fredericksburg, Texas KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Grape Creek winery is great. German restaurants in town are both really good (Altdorf Biergarten and Auslander Biergarten). Get the 290 shuttle service. Well worth the money. No set schedules, go wherever you want, but no worries about drinking and driving.

Dallas / Arlington KOA, Arlington, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

My rate reflects a 15% discount. Considering the cost, not exactly a great park. Many of the long term spots are cluttered, with several right up at the front of the park with residential window unit air conditioners, bright (gaudy) colored LED light strings on patios, etc... The pool area is great. Park is well lit at night, but almost to the point of being too bright.

My gravel spot was fairly level side-to-side, but had to drop 4-5" on the front to get level that direction. Scraped my air conditioner and skylights on tree limbs. The limbs were not trimmed in the 4 days we were there as I had immediately requested on pulling in. If we had gotten a good wind while we were there, I have no doubt they would have damaged my roof.

Spot had a concrete patio, picnic table, and BBQ pit. Good location, easy to get anywhere in the metro area. We camped at Dallas / Arlington KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Texan RV Ranch (formerly Amarillo Ranch RV Park), Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for one night while traveling. Basically got exactly what I expected. Clean, level, pull-through space. Wifi weak to non-existent, but that didn't bother me. Great value considering the $35 cost. We camped at Big Texan RV Ranch (formerly Amarillo Ranch RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Buffalo Springs Lake, Lubbock, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Not a great place to stay. The main campground is A and B. Those sites were very close and didn't look too level. There was a live band playing on stage both days we were there. We stayed in campground S, which is across the lake from A and B. The music was at a comfortable level for us, but we were ACROSS the lake!! Would have been miserable to be stuck on that side. Note - this was not a publicized concert. We had no idea of the band until they fired up on Friday.

We would stay there again, but only on the S side. Also, this park DOES NOT take reservations, so for us we drive 2 hours with no guarantee of what is available when we get there.

Lake bottom is nasty, gooey mud that will stick you up to your knees. The S sites are right on the water, so not a bad place if you are just using the RV as a base camp for boats or jet skis. No picnic tables or shade included with your site, just a grassy parking spot. Our site was fairly level, but many others were so far off that they couldn't even get close to leveling their trailers. We did get rain, and most of the spots got really muddy, but it is lakefront so that's expected. We stayed in a fifth wheel. We would probably stay there again, just due to location, but definitely not high on my list to go back to. We camped at Buffalo Springs Lake in a Fifth Wheel.
