West Glacier KOA, West Glacier, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

We just finished 5 nights here and couldn't wait to write this review because when an operator puts the effort and money into providing a good value, a great vacation and an exceptional property, they deserve to be recognized. Just being in the surroundings of Glacier National Park is enough, but the immaculate grounds, amenities and facilities this operator provides, is over the top. The sites are not just clean and level, they're manicured. We liked this campground so much it was tough to leave to go into Glacier each day, which is only 10 minutes away. We agree with the other excellent comments below and have found the campground to be equal or better than described. The only suggestion we'd make is to continue to increase the size of the dog park. After a long day at Glacier with one's pet stuck inside the RV, the ability to have more room to run would be a great addition. We camped at West Glacier KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We took a whitewater rafting trip with Wild Adventures (1 of 4 rafting companies on the west side, and the smallest of them) and found it to be a great experience, with knowledgeable fun guides, a great value and one of the few (only?) that doesn't make you walk back to your car when finished.

St. Mary / East Glacier KOA, St Mary, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $81.00
Overall Rating:

First of all we had a very nice 4-night stay in the area, but, oh my gosh, this has to be the worst value of a campground in country. This negative review is not due to being mad at any specific aspect (clerk was rude, neighbors who were noisy or we didn't like site, etc), but rather for the amount of money this campground is generating (even with a short season), they are putting practically NOTHING back into the facility. Many of the sites are not level, the shrubs around the poor interior roads have not been trimmed, there are only 2 or 3 restrooms for this large campground creating lines to use, the picnic tables are rotting, our sewer cap was broken and the wifi is so poor, they don't give out the password unless you ask (to keep usage down). All this said, there really aren't much better options on the East side of Glacier National Park, so I guess the owners can get away with the lack of reinvestment in this embarrassing KOA property and generate a huge annual income. Set your expectations low and be prepared for conditions that you'd typically pay about 1/3 of this campground's nightly rate & you'll be fine as they have a nice pool, a playground, dog park and are 5 minutes from the East entrance to the Going to the Sun Road. Even at a more reasonable rate, this park would still be about "satisfactory" at best. But if we were to do it again, we'd stay at the West Glacier KOA (where we stayed the 4 nights prior, which was the #1 KOA in 2017 & may be one of the best valued campgrounds we've ever stayed at), pay less per night there and just drive to the East side (about 1 hour on US 2 around the park) to enjoy one of the most amazing National Parks we've ever visited. Sorry for the negative review but it so irritating to see fellow campers being taken advantage of. We camped at St. Mary / East Glacier KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Glacier after 6pm and you have practically no traffic on the Going to the Sun road, get some great sunsets & odds of seeing wildlife increase (we saw Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats & even a bear). Waterton Lakes Towne Center and the Prince of Wales hotel just across the border are worth a visit. Since the wifi is so poor at the KOA, go to the Glacier St. Mary Visitors Center where they have free high speed wifi. It's right inside the entrance to the park.

Red Trail Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This park is definitely NOT a 6. We were very pleased with our site, the facility, the hookups and the staff. We had very level back in site and staff parked us to insure we had proper spacing for the slides and to avoid the trees. The sites are close to your neighbor but we've stayed at worse. Compared to other options for big rigs in the area, this is clearly the best location (10 minute walk to town, less than a mile to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park entrance and about a mile from the Medora Musical facility). The office has a pretty well stocked store & supplies. I think if you remember you're in the middle of western North Dakota and set your expectations appropriately, you'll be pleased with this campground. The sites have a grill, but no fire ring. Campfires are not allowed due to local ordinance. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The sunset is great from the Medora Musical parking lot, even if you don't go to the show. The Pitchfork Fondue Steak dinner is served from 5:30-6:30, but you don't have to be there at 5:30. They serve right up to 6:30 and the Musical doesn't start until 7:30 so there is no reason to rush to stand in line at 5:30. The meal and the show exceeded our expectations!

Dakotah Meadows RV Park, Prior Lake, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is about as perfect of a campground as you will find in this price point. Clean level concrete sites with well kept grass islands for each site complete with a picnic table, fire ring and a grill. The park is well kept with a garbage can at every other site, dog bag stations throughout the park, a really nice playground, party area and even a storm shelter (just in case). The office staff was very personable. Since this is part of the Mystic Lake Casino, you have access to their facilities (health club, restaurants, golf course, etc). The shuttle will pick you up and drop you off right at your site. There are only a few camping options relatively close in to Minneapolis/St. Paul and while you will have a 20 mile plus drive to get to Mall of America, downtown Minneapolis or downtown St. Paul, it our opinion, this is a hands down winner! We camped at Dakotah Meadows RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fuel is available on the property and the casino owned convenience stores nearby, priced about 35 cents less per gallon than other stations in the area. There is also a self serve RV/Car wash on the property. There is no dog park on the property but the Bloomington Off-Leash Dog Park is about 7 miles away and the South Bridge Dog Park is about 4 miles. Both are huge, well kept and open to visitors.

Holiday Park Campground, Traverse City, Michigan

Overall Rating:

This is a good solid campground with either nice shaded spot, some with lake views, or fairly wide open spots in their newer section. Staff was very personable and the services were good. Very family oriented with several playgrounds. We would stay again. We camped at Holiday Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Aune-Osborn Campground, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This city owned campground is again being managed by the city. They are adding improvements to the infrastructure and service. We were very pleased with our stay although would have preferred to be able to pull in to our waterfront spot vs having to back in. Pick your space carefully to insure you get the view and location you want. We camped at Aune-Osborn Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Antler’s Restaurant has a unique atmosphere but the food is pretty average. The West Side Drive In serves a great burger in a car hop scenario. Highly recommend. Also download the “FindShip” app and time your visit to the Soo Locks Visitor Center so you can watch a ship go through.

The Glades RV Resort, Moore Haven, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is the tale of two expectations. If you are looking for a cheap place to spend the winter in Florida and play golf, you will like this (not a) resort.

If you don’t fit this profile, you will be sorely disappointed. The transient sites are sand pits (as previously described by recent reviews), the office doesn’t open until 10am and is closed on Sundays. If you have a dog, there is NOWHERE to dispose of waste other than one small can in the one “dog run” which isn’t necessarily convenient to your walk. The “enclosed dog park” is a small dirt pile hidden in the utility area. Even the office personnel didn’t recommend using it.

Lastly, their website embellishes the reality that you are a short term visitor, so set your expectations appropriately. This place is literally in the middle of nowhere, so come prepared. There is a Walmart about 25 minutes away. We camped at The Glades RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Cajun Palms RV Resort, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a campground that some people will love and others will hate. If you want a place that has a lot of socializing opportunities and family oriented activities, you may like this. If you're looking for something quiet and woodsy, you probably won't. There's alot of focus on golf carts so it would indicate there is a regular crowd that stays here (but not permanently). Our review is based on an overnight stay, which we would do again if need be. The positives for this use is that there are a lot of sites so you probably can snag one, the sites are concrete and level. The bathrooms are spotless and they seem to have a lot of staff to keep things working and attend to you should you need something. While we didn't use the pool or rec hall, they sure looked impressive. There's beach volley ball and miniature golf, so I'm sure this is a popular spot for families with kids. The negatives are the before mentioned narrow streets and sites. You have a pretty normal amount of green space in between sites, but our site could not accommodate our 43' foot motorhome and tow and still be able to reach the sewer without our car sticking out in the road. While dog friendly, there is NO dog park and limited grass areas to walk your pet without being on someone's site. Besides the sewer proximity, probably the most frustrating thing was the water spigot is so low to the ground that it takes some gymnastics to connect. We camped at Cajun Palms RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Mystic Quarry Resort, Canyon Lake, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Like previous reviews, you can really see the effort the new owners have put into bringing this legacy campground up to modern standards. They've created a really nice vibe very appropriate for the area. There is a choice of sites in their "courtyard" which is more open or in the "campground" which has more trees. The dog park is terrific, there are activities and events almost every day and every employee we encountered was friendly and welcoming. There's a nice pool, bocce ball courts, a rec hall and even a "play" cattle roping for the kids to try. We'd definitely stay here again. We camped at Mystic Quarry Resort in a Motorhome.

Terrific setting, well maintained, easy access to the lake. Sites are spacious and level. Waterfront sites have a great view. Playground, disc golf, model airplane flying field, boat ramp and 2 restaurants accessible to campers. Campground has security gate and on-site host. Only downside is there is no sewer at the site. Don't let your GPS take you on Ferry Landing Road, stay on US 280 to the park entrance Cordelia's Restaurant on the grounds is terrific. Visit the on-site museum and for a fun day, ride the Sam Shortline train to Plains. Departs right from the park. The grocery at the Citgo station across the street from the park is excellent including a butcher shop with fresh meat. The Daphne Lodge about 1/2 mile away on US 280 is really good Try the cheese grits!

Leisure Acres Campground, Inc, Cleveland, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

What a disappointment! After reading their website and reviews and talking with the friendly office representative, we didn't expect a muddy poorly maintained tired old park. Surprisingly near the more transient section of the park was an older permanent or semi-permanent trailer running a very loud generator all day long. Our pull through site was nearly on top of the more permanent older trailer next door with no room for a picnic table which had to be placed on the utility side of our motorhome. The neighbor's vehicles were nearly on top of us and there wouldn't have been room to put our our awning had we wanted to. The interior roads need a gravel refresh as they contain quite a bit of dirt & mud as did our site. After a rain it was very sloppy. There is no cable, our over-the-air antenna could only pick up a couple of UHF stations, the wifi was marginal. While it's a nice setting with a catch & release lake and convenient to Helen & Dahlonega, there is much work to be done and we won't be back. We've stayed at nearly 100 campgrounds in the past 3 years and this one is clearly at the bottom. We camped at Leisure Acres Campground, Inc in a Motorhome.

Pine Lake RV Campground, Bishop, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great little campground tucked in the woods just outside of Athens. The new owners (since Sept 2016) are noticeably continuing to invest in the facility which opened in 1986. This does not look like a 32-year old campground The staff couldn't have been nicer making extra effort to accommodate our date and motorhome size. While they are currently limited in the number of sites that can handle big rigs, they are developing 20 new sites that they said would be 40x100 feet and easily fit any size RV. Our site was level & clean and we really enjoyed the view of their lakes which have waterfalls and paths around them. The restrooms were spotless and the office area, while being quaint, is very up to date. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Pine Lake RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Bluewater Key RV Resort, Key West, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $180.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second time staying here and we would stay again for the view, location and some of the amenities. Previous reviews are accurate about the quality of the sites (tiki huts etc), the helpfulness of the staff and the views on the bayside. They have recovered very well from Hurricane Irma and kudos are due to the staff. That said, having visited other "luxury" RV Resorts since our first visit here in 2014, we noticed one thing that comparatively, was a disappointment: The bathhouse is sorely in need of refurbishing. It is old and small and while probably cleaned regularly, doesn't feel that way. Hurricane refurbishment expenses aside, for what they charge, the owners and management need to step up and put some capital into this important amenity. With that, Bluewater would be a 10. We camped at Bluewater Key RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Byrd's Branch Campground, Elkin, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small, rural campground in what appears to be family farmland. The owners are very nice and give you their cellphone if you need anything.

The office is across the road up on a hill. If you don't plan to unhook the tow and have called ahead for a reservation, ask for the space number and go ahead and park in it. Then walk up the hill to check in and pay.

We spent one night in one of their five level, gravel, FHU PTs. There are no amenities other than wifi and the rate reflects that. We were pleased with the value and stayed here instead of the nearby Walmart for a quick overnight en route. We camped at Byrd's Branch Campground in a Motorhome.

Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort & Marina, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, each site is privately owned so the amenities will vary. Some had water features and umbrellas and tables etc while others are very basic. The check in process is unique. They took no deposit and when we arrived, we got in a golf cart and drove around the entire park to pick out a site based on the availability sheet they gave us which is coordinated to your dates. While this was nice in that we could select our site, it made the check in process prolonged. There is only room for one or two RVs at the office, so another group on a caravan had RVs backed up onto the access road for nearly an hour. Luckily we arrived before that. There are a few sites right on the water and some have partial views through the trees and and across the street. All sites are back-ins. The marina is lovely, especially at sunset, but you cannot access without a boat owner or on a charter. The clubhouse is terrific for groups and there is even a separately owned 5-star restaurant on the grounds. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice pool and tennis courts. Good cable TV, wifi and AT&T signal. We camped at Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.
