Historic Marble Springs Family Campground, Allen, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

While the campground is pretty, with the ponds, creek and mature trees, there are many problems. The site we had (and all the sites in our row) were positioned under very tall pine trees. The ground was covered with dirty pine needles and black dirt. We were tracking black crap into our trailer every time we went in. Lots of picnic tables but we couldn't find one that was nice. Rotted looking wood and very dirty. Each site has it's own spigot, but the water had a very strong sulfur smell to it, and there were signs in the bathroom that said "non pot". I assume this means non-drinkable. Didn't seem safe to shower or wash dishes with it. The bathrooms were very dirty, especially the one located at the front of the campground, which is really outdated. The showers were even worse. One of the four didn't even have a shower head. The hallway floor between showers and bathroom always had standing water on the floor. Restroom at the back of camp had newer bathrooms and they were a bit cleaner, but not great, and no locks on stalls. Showers appeared to be a tad bit cleaner, but still, not great. There are no designated walks to the restrooms so you have to walk through others' campsites. There were mosquitoes in droves, maybe because of the ponds and creek? It was quiet at night and they have a lot of fun activities for kids. They also accept pets, and the staff was friendly. There's a pool that lots of kids were using, and people were also swimming in the pond. I'm sure it was a beautiful campsite at one time, but it really needs some updating and cleaning. There are pros and cons to this site, but for us, we have no desire to camp there again. For the money, we expected clean bathrooms, showers, and campsites. We camped at Historic Marble Springs Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.
