The Resort at Skamania Coves, Stevenson, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

I can't really add to what has already been said. This is a beautiful setting but very noisy due to the highway and railroad being very close. We only stayed for one night so if we had been there longer we might have gotten used to the noise. Highway traffic does diminish after about 11:00 pm except for the occasional semi or kid with a tin can muffler and loud stereo. The trains go by several times but only last a few minutes. There is no campground host and contact with the owners/managers is by phone. Access to the campground is by gate with a code. The grounds are immaculate and the views are great. We used GPS and missed it the first time going by. The sign for the Resort blends in with the foliage. Turns in the resort are tight so not really big rig friendly (I have a 32' 5er and would not be comfortable if I had a 35' or longer rig.) Also, if you are traveling on WA-14 be aware there are tunnels east of this campground that have low clearance on the curb side so check before traveling this lovely highway. The top of the tunnels are rounded so there is clearance in the middle which forces you to hug the middle. The tunnels are short but if there is a logging truck coming at you it may get your heart pumping. We camped at The Resort at Skamania Coves in a Fifth Wheel.

McCloud RV Resort, McCloud, California

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here twice before. This is one of our favorite campgrounds because it is so picturesque with all of the tall ponderosa pines and well kept lawns. It is nice and cool in the evening and comfortable during the day. It is also a very quiet campground except for the occasional truck rumbling by on the CA HWY 89. McCloud is a quaint former mill town nearby and Mt. Shasta City has some interesting shops. Mt. Shasta itself is worth the trip. Interior roads a asphalt and most sites are grass. The restrooms are very neat and clean; the partitions are cedar and the restroom smells wonderful (like a cedar closet.) We camped at McCloud RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Reno KOA at Boomtown, Verdi, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are very narrow. Dead grass between sites but each site has a tree. This park is quiet at night except for the occasional train. It is convenient to Boomtown Casino, but if you want to go to Reno it is about 15 minutes to downtown. The interior roads have just been redone with asphalt. Showers and restrooms are very clean. We camped at Reno KOA at Boomtown in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Sierra Resort RV Park, Reno, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

Very expensive if you are there during a "special" event (balloon races, air races, Burning Man, etc.) Almost like staying in a parking lot (roads and sites are all blacktop, some small trees and bushes.) We did get our site comped because we have a players card, but if not, we would not have stayed here due to the expense. GSR is convenient to shopping and we really enjoy the casino. Also, don't let them put you back by the intersection. Lots of traffic and very noisy. We camped at Grand Sierra Resort RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

New Frontier RV Park, Winnemucca, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very neat and clean; well maintained property. Nice spaces between sites; trees on each site (not big but still trees.) Office was updated and modern. Great value for the price! Blacktop roads and good gravel sites. We camped at New Frontier RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stanley RV + Camp (formerly Elk Mountain RV Resort), Stanley, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We have been coming to this campground off and on for 15 years. It is now under new ownership and they have started to make positive changes. The previous owners were elderly and clearly had difficulty keeping up. The new owners are young, energetic and very friendly! Interior roads are dirt and sites have gravel. Sites in the lower section have trees and some shade. Uppers section has killer views of the Sawtooth Mountains but no shade. The upper section also needs to have utilities reset to make them more accessible which the owners are going to do next year. Also, there is a 9% grade with gravel surface to get up to the uppers section, so if you have a big motor home you probably wouldn't want to attempt to go up there. The restaurant the previous owners ran is no longer open, but I stayed there to camp, not to eat. The new owners have also reworked the restroom/showers and there are very neat, clean and brand new. We love staying at this campground! We camped at Stanley RV + Camp (formerly Elk Mountain RV Resort) in a Fifth Wheel.

Challis Hot Springs, Inc., Challis, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here about 10 years ago and it hasn't changed. I don't mean that in a negative way, but it hasn't changed. The hot spring pools are a big plus, and the river flowing next to the park is a big plus as are the views. Having said that, the interior roads are dirt and the sites are dirt. Bugs were bad, especially the mosquitoes. If you want to go to the pools or the showers in the evening you had better walk fast or you will get bug bites. Another minor negative is that the campground is about 5 miles from the highway and while the road is blacktop, it is a bit rough so you have to go slow. We still like the campground though as it is quiet and laid back during the week. Weekends there can be a party but things settle down about 11:00 p.m. We camped at Challis Hot Springs, Inc. in a Fifth Wheel.

Southside RV Park, Dillon, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

One of the neatest, cleanest, tidiest RV parks we have ever stayed in. Restrooms, laundry and all of the park were spotless. Very friendly and helpful owners; give you lots of local info. You have to travel through town to get here, but given the low cost and scenic spot, it is worth it. The only knock I have against this park is that many of the sites are too close together (only about 20') and the showers are tight and no place to sit to undress. We camped at Southside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Silver Cove Resort, Silverlake, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park has lots of trees and open space. It is well laid out and very quiet. The sites are wide but have large gravel (like railroad ballast) and are full hook-up. The interior roads are all asphalt but are narrow. Backing into a back-in site could be a challenge if all sites are full. The canals in the park are a nice touch but are only about 15' - 20' wide so their "water view" sites are a little over sold. Their main pavillion is very nice with a large fireplace and comfy furniture. My biggest knock on this campground is a lack of restrooms. There were only three total restrooms in the entire park for well over 100 sites. I know I have a shower in my trailer, but I am tall and when I can I like to stretch out a little when I shower. Overall this is a very nice RV park with some nice amenities, but I feel it is overpriced. Having said that, I would probably stay here again as the other RV parks in the area are close to the highway. We camped at Silver Cove Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort, Suquamish, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park is adjacent to the casino. The best thing about it is the value, only $30/night. It is a large asphalt parking lot that is striped for RV parking. It is only a year old so everything is new. There are two rows of sites and the back row backs up to trees and slight views of the water. There is a busy two lane road next to the park but traffic is very slow from about 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. There are two other RV parks near here but one is even closer to the highway and the other has very tight, close sites. The RV sites are also close to the loading dock for the casino but again, no activity during the night. The RV spots are also an easy walk to the casino. I feel this is a very good value given the price. We camped at Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Knox Butte RV Park, Albany, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Convenient campground, close to I-5. Sites were not too close and were paved. Laundry, showers and restrooms were very clean! Seems like a lot of sites were occupied by long term residents, but there was not a lot of junk laying around and the park was very neat and clean. We camped at Knox Butte RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lyman KOA, Lyman, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here about 6 times over the last several years and always enjoy it. This is a nice, quiet RV park about 1 mile from the interstate. It is always neat, clean and well maintained. There is not a lot to do in the small towns nearby, but if you want a break from being on the road, this is a great spot; like a small oasis in the Wyoming high country desert. We camped at Lyman KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
