South Rim (NPS Campground), Black Canyon Gunnison Nat'l Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Sites well-separated from each other by dense scrub oak with sparse overhead cover. Stayed in Elec-only site on loop B (50A hookups) power stable at ~122V. Water hydrants are located near entrance to each loop--water is trucked in, so filling of RV tanks from hydrants is not permitted--good idea to come in with tanks full. Sites gravel and fairly level. Pit toilets were clean and well-maintained. Excellent proximity to the vistas in the national park. No Verizon cell in the campground--good 4G signal starting at about mile marker 5 a few miles outside the park entrance. No firewood in the park--the store at the turnoff from Hwy 50 to the park does sell wood. Strict and rigidly enforced rules on leaving any kind of food container or cooking gear outside while site is not attended (bears). We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Ridgway State Park, Ridgway, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in Dakota Terraces (accessed at Dutch Charlie). Asphalt sites with electric only. Water hydrants are everywhere, many are close enough to fill RV tanks while parked on site. Very clean pay showers at the campground services building. Stable electricity measured at 121v in daytime with lots of people running AC. Many sites have covered patio and picnic table. Open and scenic; one of the nicest state park campgrounds we've seen in Colorado. Very nice swim beach and fishing access adjoining Marina in Dutch Charlie complex. Two-lane dump station with fresh and nonpotable water. Park is situated between Montrose and Ouray, about 17 miles either way. Montrose is more of a small rural town with a Walmart and most services--Ouray is a quaint tourist trap with boutique shopping. Note: Colorado State Parks charge a per-vehicle daily access fee in addition to the campsite fee that is not reflected in the price when making a reservation. We camped at Ridgway State Park in a Motorhome.

Salida / Mt. Shavano KOA, Poncha Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in a FHU spot on the furthest row from the office--WiFi not usable except in the first few rows closest to office. Weak but usable Verizon 4G signal. Water pressure measured at 22 PSI...shower was about the same using tank and water pump as it was with city water. Voltage stable at 125v in daytime with ~50% occupancy in cool weather without a lot of folks running AC. Long rigs in the #5 spots (i.e. C-5, D-5, E-5 etc) need to use caution for trees on both sides of row at end--you turn out of terraced site to an uphill slope with trees making for a very tight path out. There were a fair number of what looked to be seasonal campers in somewhat run-down rigs. Quiet with some road noise from Hwy 50. We camped at Salida / Mt. Shavano KOA in a Motorhome.
