Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Hecla Junction Campground, Salida, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This park is located 2.4 miles off of 285 South. The road is gravel and a 12% grade in spots but the slow drive in is totally worth it. The sites sit up above the Arkansas River with stunning views. There are 22 sites. The sites are all gravel with nice picnic tables and a tent area at each site. The park is unmanned so self check in. The pricing is a little confusing as you have to pay for the campsite and then a vehicle pass and it's not clearly stated at the kiosk. There is a ranger who drives through several times a day who was very helpful with questions. This park is wonderful in that you are a bit isolated, have beautiful views and vey well groomed sites. We camped at Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Hecla Junction Campground in a Motorhome.

Bear Creek Lake Park, Indian Paintbrush Campground, Lakewood, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

This is a big day use park as it is located in town but you don't feel like you are in town. Lots of biking/hiking trails which were really nice. The campground is located at the back of the park. The sites were located a bit close together and there isn't much shade but for the price and location it was great! We stayed a second time as we came back thru Denver after a stay in Rocky Mountian NP. Great location for stocking up on supplies. We camped at Bear Creek Lake Park, Indian Paintbrush Campground in a Motorhome.

Singing Hills RV Park & Campground, Cave City, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The park is nice and small with friendly owners who are onsite and ready to help with information or assistance. We were able to use Passport America's 50% discount for two nights and then were given a 25% discount for each following night - very generous and much appreciated. We weren't able to get on a full hookup site for a few days so had to relocate mid-visit. The full hookup sites seem a bit larger. The free wifi worked very well day and night. There were a few sites that seemed to be more long term visitors but everyone was friendly and the sites were well kept. We would certainly stay here again when in the area. We camped at Singing Hills RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This campground is located just a few miles from Mammoth Cave National Park. The park is beautiful and there are lots of cave tours to choose from. We also went hiking and mountain biking. The mountain bike trail was excellent - not too challenging but still great fun! This location is also just a quick 30 minute drive to the Corvette Assembly Plant where you can take a tour and then visit the museum.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a week visiting friends and really enjoyed the location. The staff was very friendly, sites were a nice size and lots of amenities like the beautiful pool, sand volleyball pit and basketball court. Along with the camp store and close proximity to the Horse Park there were plenty of options. There's wifi throughout the park but really slowed down during peak ours which is to be expected in a park of this size. Quite a few sites appeared to be very unlevel but we were lucky enough to have a nice level site and didn't even need to use any leveling blocks. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out the horse park. They have events there each week for the entire season and there is always something interesting to see. We rode our bikes around the park to the different venues/arenas and enjoyed seeing the jumpers. We also rode the Legacy Trail. It's a beautiful paved cycling/running/walking trail that starts at the park and goes all the way into downtown Lexington. A beautiful trail!
