Bentley's Saloon & Campground, Arundel, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We paid the weekday rate of $40, plus tax. Rate is $50 on weekends. This Rustic rough around the edges CG is hard to rate, it could go from 1 to 7 depending on your site. We had site 38 in the original section and considered one of the better ones, it works. You come in from the back end of it with electric and water on the wrong side, you want to do that. This gives you some curbside room vs being right up against trees. Sewer is on both sides. The premium sites under development looked like something out of a KOA Horror Movie with long slopping sites and side by side hookups. Early in the week and during slow times this place works. Other than that, the food is the only real reason we would come back. We camped at Bentley's Saloon & Campground in a Motorhome.

Pumpkin Patch RV Resort, Hermon, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Rate based on monthly rate. This RV Park still remains the best bet in the Bangor area. As in many other places we been to lately, they no longer have cable. OTA TV is fair, ABC, CBS, FOX & a couple of PBS types were always strong, NBC was real spotty. Most of the folks that work and run this RV Park still are top notch. My only complaint would be the guy who used the weed wacker on a gravel and stone site. He had stones flying all over the place. Dust still can be an issue. We camped at Pumpkin Patch RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Eagles Nest in Brewer remains the best bet for a lobster roll. Lots of other dining options are in the area. Sea Dog has upgraded its deck and still has daily happy hour at the bars. The new deck bar faces the river instead of the building. Anglers has nice early dine options. The place next door no longer serves breakfast which was a bit of a bummer.

Silver Springs Campground and Cottages, Saco, Maine

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We paid $32 PA rate plus tax. NO cable, OTA TV only with OK reception on networks. We were in the top area in site 12. A tight fairly level FHU site. Not exactly big rig friendly, but doable for up to 38' in this section. Plus these sites back up to a big grassy area leading to the pool and clubhouse. We would come back when in the area again. We camped at Silver Springs Campground and Cottages in a Motorhome.

During our late June 23 - 26 stay, Portland was a fairly easy drive on US-1 North to the Portland cutoff. Downtown Portland's Commercial Street area is well worth a visit with plenty of other nearby places to explore. Lots of good Brew options and some outstanding food to be had as well.

Charlestown Breachway, Charlestown, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Rhode Island's big rate hike has almost doubled the nightly rate from $20 to $36. Location is still great with sites in a large fairly level gravel area with plenty of puddles when wet. Since our last stay a couple of sites have been eliminated making some of the turns doable, but it is still fairly tight and the max RV size is now 38'. We camped at Charlestown Breachway in a Motorhome.

Fishermen's State Park and Campground, Narragansett, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent 2 weeks in area 1. We had booked the site a year in advance so we paid the old rates. New rates have really jumped, especially if your not a RI resident. Sites vary a lot here, so site selection is important. Area 1 is 50 amp full hookups, area 2 is 30 amp full hookups and has a lot of grade, area 3 is canvas only and area 4 is 30 amp and water. As mentioned before the check in process requires license and registrations here. Also don't let your tires touch the grass. We camped at Fishermen's State Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Mariner Grille has some very good lunch specials and the food is very good. Spain's is a high end place and also very good but more pricey. The Bon Vue Inn is more of a local place but the food is also good here.

Hickory Ridge Campground, Greene, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay here, this time in the big open area to the left. A fairly large, lumpy, hard packed grass area with a lot of back-in 30 amp full hookup sites. No problems with the grass sites and it had been really wet both before and during our stay. The sites are not numbered here. Lots of empty sites around us making for a roomy stay. Interior roads not the best, but doable. Sites are decent sized here. Cell and OTA TV were both very good. We will return as long as it is not too hot where we would need to run both AC units. We camped at Hickory Ridge Campground in a Motorhome.

Dan's down the road at I-95 & 102 has very good food and is a best bet for a short stay. Cady's Roadhouse (under 20 miles via 102 and 94) is a Biker type place that defies logic. Good food, good times, great people, etc. Great Blues Jam on Sunday afternoons.

West Thompson Lake COE, North Grosvenordale, Connecticut

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here multiple times and it remains the best option around this area. We paid the senior rate for our 30 amp site. Hookups were good. It was late May and the gypsy moths were just coming out and made things a bit messy. A nice quiet area. OTA TV not the best with just ION and PBS stations. Very good cell phone coverage. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Motorhome.

North Fork Resort, Front Royal, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Our second stay and this place is still a dump. We called ahead of time and were told they had sites and to come in after 12. So we arrived with no advanced reservation which kind of pissed off the women working the security booth. She had us pull up to the check in parking, I asked if we could pull down to the bottom of the hill and come back up. She said no. The check-in parking area would make a great ski slope. I stayed in the coach with my foot on the brake while my wife checked in. The sites are all side hill and have a pretty good slope to them. We could not get level and spent two uncomfortable nights here. We could not get any OTA TV reception. The water here tastes horrible. Boy was it nice seeing this place in our rear view mirror. The only thing going here is the location. We camped at North Fork Resort in a Motorhome.

Rutledge Lake RV Park, Fletcher, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We paid the Good Sam rate of $49.50 per night for a pull thru site. Site hookups were good, but the cable and the real slow WiFi left a lot to be desired. The cable was very snowy at times and was barely watchable. Better than nothing thou. Sites were all stone and not the most level. But we were able to position our RV on the site where it was level. Sites vary here and some have a lot of slope. The interior roads are a bit tight with some branches that could use trimming. We had no problems getting around as it was quiet during our mid-week stay. We would return as there are not a lot of options around for large rigs. There are lots of things to see and do in the area and we quickly decided that we will need to return again after some advanced planning. We wanted to stay longer but the weekend was booked solid. Advanced tickets are needed for some of the main attractions, so we will be back. We camped at Rutledge Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort, Hardeeville, South Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We paid the Good Sam rate of $45 plus 15% in taxes per night, our 4 night stay was $207. We had a nice gravel pull thru site with a concrete patio and picnic table. The sites in our row did drop off at the front end of the site down to the road. But it caused no problems. Great location for visiting Savannah and the surrounding area. Very good WiFi and cable lineup. We will add this place to our stopping points. We camped at Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Hobe Sound, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here several times and it remains to be a great place to stop in this area of FL. The PG loop is the newer of the two campgrounds and has full 50 amp hookups. The river area has been upgraded since our last visit. We will return again (if we can get a reservation). FL SP's are getting really hard to get into. We camped at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in a Motorhome.

There is a great local brewery just down US-1 that opened since our last visit, Tequesta Brewing Company. A great work staff there. It's in with West Marine and has some very good beers. HH Tue - Fri 3 - 6 and Sun 12- 8. A great stop for a cold one.

Hidden Hollow, Cottonwood, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We came here in mid September and could not believe what we saw. A completely empty RV Park. All 78 sites were empty. This RV Park is completely open, no shade anywhere. They spent a lot of money building this place and got it all wrong. The big wide slabs have settling problems where the utilities were buried. As a result our left rear tires came off the ground. Not all pads have this problem, but a lot of the sites I could see from our site did. Rows A, C & E all have afternoon sun on the windshield and curb side. Rows B & D have morning sun. Beware the killer water pressure, even with our water partially open, the pressure built up enough to blow open the pressure relief value on our hot water heater. That was a first for us. This kind of water pressure is not acceptable in an RV Park. Reservations work on a 24 hour basis, so if you come in early make sure you leave early. OTA TV was fair. Wi-fi was very good, but there was no one else here. We camped at Hidden Hollow in a Motorhome.

Chiefland RV Park, Chiefland, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Our 1 night stop was $15.26, PA plus tax. The place is still ok for a 1 night stop. No improvements since our last stay, but no problems. Expect to see all the old trailers and RV's that are not allowed into other places. Not a destination by any means, but there are not many other options along this big bend route onto / off the FL Panhandle. We camped at Chiefland RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rustic Sands RV Resort Campground, Mexico Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Rustic Sands is the better of the two options in outstanding Mexico Beach. MB still remains up in the top tier of our favorite FL stops. Our site was level, mostly shaded with 50 amp full hookups. All were excellent. No cable, but a few good OTA TV stations. It was nice to see the laundry room had been cleaned since our last visit. Nice improvements were also make inside the clubhouse. We will be back. We camped at Rustic Sands RV Resort Campground in a Motorhome.
