Blazing Star RV Resort, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Rate based on monthly stay and includes all utilities (power, water, sewer, cable, and wifi). All sites are concrete pads, but some are slightly unlevel (park streets are hilly). Beautiful live oak trees throughout, but everything is nicely maintained. Park requires units 10 years or newer, but will accept other years in good condition. Full time sights are well kept and clean, and management is strict about maintaining your site. Staff is friendly and extremely helpful. Park is located off 1604, so front sites can be a bit noisy. Our spot was located near back of park, so it was very quiet. Nice pool and spa, Rec room with coin operated amusements, very large laundry room, and two dog parks with separate areas for small and large dogs. Management sponsors frequent events like pot lucks, exercise classes, low cost breakfasts and dinners, etc. Very nice park, but sites are quite close. Will definitely stay again. We camped at Blazing Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Barber Homestead Park, Westport, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful family-owned and operated quaint, secluded park in the Adironacks. Park sits on the shores of Lake Champlain, and the lake is easily accessed by a short hike down stairs or along a forested path. Lake can be seen in the distance from camp.

Some sites are packed gravel, but others are dirt or grass. Our site was packed gravel and quite level. Electricity was reliable and water pressure good. Wifi was adequate, although it slowed down a little in the evening with heavier use.

The owners schedule activities throughout the season, and there is a nightly community fire. The majority of campers are seasonals, but each and every site is well maintained and clean.

We enjoyed this campground so much that we extended our stay an additional 2 weeks. Very friendly, family atmosphere where everyone knows one another. Definitely an unknown gem! We WILL return next time we're in this neck of the woods! We camped at Barber Homestead Park in a Motorhome.

Camp Perry Lodging & Conference Center, Port Clinton, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Park is located on the Camp Perry base, but is open to the public. Sites are concrete, level, and extremely long, and each has a picnic tables and fire ring. Power was reliable and water pressure was good, but water was terrible! Sign on water spigot said to let it run for 30 seconds before hooking up and turning on (we did), but it didn't make any difference. We had to change our water filter after we left, and we had just put a new filter in the week before! The water is a brownish color that tastes terrible! I would HIGHLY suggest using bottled water during your stay!

The park is quiet and sits directly on the shores of Lake Erie, but there is no water view from the park. There is, however, a fishing pier with easy access and a short walk from your site. We camped at Camp Perry Lodging & Conference Center in a Motorhome.

AA Royal Motel & Campground, North Tonawanda, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

Park is located behind motel. Fairly level, asphalt sites with reliable electricity and decent water pressure. Decent WiFi, but it did slow down significantly on the weekend when park was full. No pool or playground for little ones. Owners are extremely friendly and very, very helpful. Very convenient to shopping and Niagara Falls. We camped at AA Royal Motel & Campground in a Motorhome.

Wright-Patt FamCamp at Bass Lake (Military FamCamp), Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park located in wilderness side of base. Sites were asphalt and fairly level. Some sites had shade. Electricity was reliable, but water pressure was quite low. Park is located only steps from Bass Lake. Guests may use the club house which includes a game room with pool table. Camp host was extremely helpful and friendly, and made our stay very enjoyable. Commissary and BX are on the opposite side of the base. We camped at Wright-Patt FamCamp at Bass Lake (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Beech Bend Campground, Bowling Green, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is the single worst RV park we've ever stayed at. It is probably meant to appeal to families visiting the amusement park and not traveling RV'ers. Unfortunately, because we were traveling around a holiday weekend, our choices were limited. We found this park deplorable because:

- Sites flood heavily after rain

- Sites SHARE water on single faucet

- Sites very un-level, potholes

- Very few 50 amp sites

- Open sewer hookups

- Sites not well marked

- No directional signs

- Clutter at many permanent resident sites

- Picnic tables 1st come

- Trash cans 1st come

- Lack of maintenance!

The best part about this park? Seeing it in our rear view mirror! We camped at Beech Bend Campground in a Motorhome.

Greentree Village North Travel Park, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Facility filled with old park models. Extremely unlevel, gravel sites. Narrow streets filled with speed bumps and pot holes; very, very difficult to maneuver a big rig through. Satellite reception difficult or impossible due to trees. We lost power sporadically, especially during storms. Park poorly maintained. NOTE: The trees at our site prevented satellite reception, so we tried working with the management to move and were told nothing available and to keep trying. We tried for over a week and were told to check after the first of the month when the monthlies vacated their spots. When two sites came open that would work for us, we asked to move but were told they could not move us due to the way their "reservation system" worked. They had no intention of letting us move when they told us to keep checking back. When I called the office and spoke with the general manager, I was told "that's the way it is and next time you can go to another park," and HUNG UP on me! We have have traveled extensively and have NEVER encountered a park like this one! We camped at Greentree Village North Travel Park in a Motorhome.

Bay Mills RV Park, Brimley, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Price reflects weekly rate ($205/wk); no discount was used, but Good Sam discount is offered. Sites are wide, level, and very long; all are pull-through. Sites on the north end of the park may have a couple of small trees that provide little or no shade. Sites on the south end have no trees and no shade. Sites are gravel/dirt and grass; roads are graded dirt. Clean, well-equipped, inexpensive laundry. Hotel/Casino with restaurants and pubs directly across the street. There is a small Farmer's Market in the casino parking lot on Thursdays. Easy access to Sault Ste. Marie and other sights of interest. Located on the road that turns in to the beautiful Whitefish Scenic Drive! Will definitely stay again when in the area. We camped at Bay Mills RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We had wonderful Whitefish at Wilcox Fish House, a no-frills, family-run little place about 5 miles from the RV park. The fish was very, very lightly coated with flour and then fried to perfection! Some of the best Whitefish we've ever had!

Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping, Mackinaw City, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 1 week, and price reflects weekly, off-season rate.

Campground is located on the shores of Lake Huron; some spots have lake and/or bridge view. Campground is very large (200+ sites) with nicely packed and graded roads. Campsites are a combination of gravel and grass, and ours was fairly level. Each site has a small fire pit, although ours was too close to our motorhome to use safety. There are also public-use fire pits located at the edge of the lake with a beautiful view of the Mackinac Bridge.

Although we were given WiFi passcodes, the WiFi was unusable due to the slow speed (Tengo). We did not use the campground WiFi and used Verizon, instead. Verizon signal was strong and service good.

There was only one set of trash dumpsters located at the front of the park, but because the park is so large, we had to drive our trash to the dumpsters. Also, there are no pet receptacles anywhere in the park, so plan on using your own bags to collect their waste and carrying it with you throughout their entire walk (yuck)!

The campground is only a couple of miles from Mackinac City, and if you are planning on visiting the island, one of the local ferries provides shuttle service several times a day directly from the campground.

All in all, although we prefer small campgrounds, we would consider returning sometime again. We camped at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping in a Motorhome.

Top of the Hill RV Resort, Boerne, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Sites were extremely unlevel. Park was old but maintained. Water pump went out one afternoon and we were without water for several hours until a pumper could bring water in to the park. Caters mostly to permanent residents, but nicest area reserved for stays of two days or less. Would be ok for a 1 night stop, but wouldn't recommend a 2 week stay like we did. Pine View Campground -FamCamp (Open to the Public), Fort McCoy, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

We LOVED this park and will definitely return! The sites are spacious and many are shaded. Even though the area is somewhat remote, there are many things to do: Inexpensive canoe and kayak rentals, pedal carts, shuffleboard, mini golf, lake and stream fishing, lakeside beach with water slides and lifeguard, and RVs for rent if you don't have your own. They also have log cabins for rent. It's one of those places you don't to talk about so you can keep it all to yourself, but too late!! Hiawatha Trailer Resort, Woodruff, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The park seems to cater to permanent and seasonal RV'ers and does not offer many temporary spots. Of those available, only one had access to Satellite through the tree line, and it wasn't ours! Additionally, the park was advertised as "Big Rig Friendly" but we were BARELY able to squeeze into our spot! If we'd had other options, we would have turned around and driven to another campground. I'm surprised this place rated satisfactory! On a pleasant note, I will say the staff was extremely accommodating and willing to work with us on site selection. We camped at Hiawatha Trailer Resort in a Motorhome.
