Fontainebleau State Park, Mandeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This state park is huge. If you're into history, it was a former sugar plantation back in the 1800s. First things first, there are very few sites that are full hook ups. Most sites are water and electric only. There are 2 dump stations in the park. Be sure and check the park website or call to reserve a full hook up site. Interior roads are a little tight, especially when you have to make the circle to come back to your site to back in. Lots of nature, trails, open areas and of course, the lake and the beach (which the lake was closed due to the algae infestation.) At nights, the bugs are terrible, even with citronella. Don't plan on sitting out under the lights after dark. All in all a good stay and good proximity to New Orleans via the Causeway. Try Nan's Café down the road from the park for a good meal and good atmosphere. We will stay here again. We camped at Fontainebleau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Paradise Ranch and Resort, Tylertown, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

OK. This will be a little longer than my normal reviews because I believe the public needs to know as much info about this park as possible. Many different routes to park, all depending on where you are coming from. I took the Hwy 48 out of Magnolia, MS headed east route. After you cross into Walthall county, entrance is on your right. There are two designated camping areas for RVs. The first area is around the "swimming lagoon" which is a million gallon pool with a zip line. There are fifty or so sites in this area. Nice gravel road that is 5 mph. There are both concrete pads and gravel sites, all very level. On the other side of the park there are lake side sights. Some concrete and some gravel, but level. There is also a primitive island for tent camping. Lots to do from swimming, fishing, kayaking, tubing the Bogue Chitto River and other activities that are planned daily. There are also all types of wildlife from ducks, pigs and axis deer on the property. Some are fenced but others roam the park. We had a big pot belly pig spend the afternoon at our site. There is also an onsite store with all types of sundries as well as grill that does burgers, hot dogs and snowballs. All in all a really nice gem of a campground with a ton of property that is really busy right now. Sites are booked all summer. Area is golf cart and sided by side friendly, which is needed to get from one side of the park to the other. Check out the website and Facebook to get more info on rates, directions and maps. Thanks to Avery Parker and the rest of the staff for the hospitality. Be sure to bring enough food and supplies. Although the store is pretty well stocked for basic necessities, Tylertown or Magnolia is a good 15 minutes away if you need groceries. We had a blast. We camped at Paradise Ranch and Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Reunion Lake RV Resort, Ponchatoula, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Reunion Lake the week before Memorial Day weekend. The park was not even half full during the week. It is a really nice park (resort). Not everything was open yet, but the pools and lazy river were great for me and the family. Super clean bath houses. Each room has its on toilet, shower and sink; so you can lock the door and not worry about your privacy. all concrete level sites. As we were leaving on Friday, the campground had filled up. I would be willing to bet its very busy on the weekends, but there are a lot of activities available. We camped at Reunion Lake RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Buccaneer State Park, Waveland, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

First time staying at Buccaneer. We stayed on site # 8 trying to be as close to the Wave Pool as possible. The park is nice and clean, but if you want shade, get to the areas in the rear of the park. There are a ton of sites. We used the park as a hub while we did several sights on the coast (Beauvoir, NASA, etc.) We camped at Buccaneer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Beach Blvd is 25 MPH. Please go the speed limit because there is a ton of foot traffic on the road using the beach for recreation. Previous review suggests using Lakeshore Drive off of Hwy 90 from exit 2 (Hwy 607.) This was a good route. The one railroad crossing created no problems for my truck or trailer. Old Town Bay St. Louis has a lot of charm and good places to eat. Try Trapani's if you haven't been there.

Cajun RV Park, Biloxi, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is my second stay at the Cajun RV Park. I stayed on site 125 which is a pull through site in the front of the campground. Great access to the beach and restaurants that are within walking distance. No need for satellite TV, the on site cable is great, along with the full hook ups. Always very clean and it serves well as a central location while working on the coast. We camped at Cajun RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Much easier to access the campground from the west bound side of Hwy 90. Otherwise, you would have to navigate a stop light and a turn lane to come back to the campground. I always approach from the D'Iberville bridge and turn right onto 90 and head west.

LeFleurs Bluff State Park, Jackson, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a week while my wife was receiving out patient treatments at a local hospital. Although close to Lakeland/Hwy 25, there wasn't much road noise. We camped on #5 (out of 30) and had a very peaceful view of the lake. Lots of nature (we saw a lot of deer, ducks and a couple of gators.) The bath house was a little dated, but it was clean and had plenty of hot water. Great location to everything in Jackson. The only negative is that there is no sewer at the site, but there is a dump station that is easy to get to on the way out. We camped at LeFleurs Bluff State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Baton Rouge KOA, Denham Springs, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here over the long 4th of July weekend. We used this location as our centralized hub as we visited family in Baton Rouge and saw the sights. Very clean restrooms. Camp store was well stocked and staff was very friendly. Nice pool and it has a mini golf course. I thought it was a little steep on the per night rate, but the overall experience was good. Towards the back of the park are some long term/permanent RVs, but there was no issue. We would stay here again. We camped at Baton Rouge KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Legion State Park, Louisville, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Spent three nights here while MSU hosted regional baseball. Its a small campground in the state park. There were 6 other rvs in the park. 4 of them belonged to some guys working to rebuild local hospital. Very good neighbors. Lots of bugs on bathhouse (my 9 yr old hates bugs) but pretty clean. Its very quiet and it was almost as no one was working. The office didn't have anyone there when we arrived and no one was there all weekend. Built by the CCC in the 30s, same as Percy Quin in my home town. We camped at Legion State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Checkout Quail Hollow Golf Course. Great 18 hole golf course. Also the camp store in the park has the nicest lady working inside. She is always very friendly and very helpful.

Lake Tiak-O'Khata Resort, Louisville, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Overnight stay while attending a Mississippi State baseball game. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance via phone. The park is clean. You make your own selection then call the office. Very level concrete pads with full hook ups. We had 19 channels from the cable tv at the site. I wish I could have stayed longer and used more of the facilities, especially the restaurant. We camped at Lake Tiak-O'Khata Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Perry State Park, Beaumont, Mississippi

Overall Rating:

I stayed here while hunting in Greene County. Joey Hinton the manager is always great about checking on us. We were the only camper in the park. I will be back in the spring to stay and do some fishing. Not full hook ups (water and electric) but does have a dump station in the back of the park. Mississippi Horse Park, Starkville, Mississippi

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

I have stayed here before in a full hook up site, but this last trip was dry camping. It was $70 for Thursday to Sunday. We were there for a Mississippi State home football game. Great location. Booking through their website is easy. I was able to run a portable generator for power and had plenty of room. I will be staying there again three more times this football season in a full hook up site. We camped at Mississippi Horse Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Depending on the size of your rig, for me, I found a much easier route to the campground via Bluebonnet to Burbank then to Nicholson. Turn Left on Skip Bertman and then left on River Road. Park is approximately 2 miles on your left. If you come on weekends, you must go to the indoor arena on site to check in and pay.
