Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort, South Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here using a free TT membership. Park was a real mess: roads were rutted and muddy, back in sites cramped with all kinds of close limbs having to maneuver around, dog poop all over campsite, no help or direction from park staff. Park is typical TT - run down and poorly staffed. Even with free camping, I’d never stay here again and it seems most TT’s are the same as here. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Honey Bear By the Sea RV Resort and Campground, Gold Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Okay place to stay if you are out and about a lot. Actually located about 10 miles north of Gold Beach. Ocean access is a walk out of the park and via a trail to the ocean crossing Hwy 101. The people running the park are very nice and take you to your site and help with parking / setup. But, RVs are stacked in like cord wood which is not depicted on their website. For this reason I would not stay here again. Also, getting in and out of the park is via a one lane road. I don't know who backs up when you meet another RV. We camped at Honey Bear By the Sea RV Resort and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

For a good seafood meal - drive up to Bandon. Gold Beach has "fast" seafood - fish and chips, etc. even the local "seafood" restaurants are a bit lacking in creativity and diversity of food. Port Orford also has good seafood at Gryffs on the Dock or high end, the Redfish.

Glenwood Springs West / Colorado River KOA, Silt, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Gravel pad with grass and picnic table for pull through site. Nicely laid out office and guest area. Pool is closed for the year. Name of CG is a bit misleading if you are not familiar with Colorado as Glenwood Springs is about 20 miles east of the location here in Silt. Nice river access, be sure to have water pressure valve as pressure here is about 80 psi. I would stay again on passing through driving I70. You may need a 30' sewer hose if in a MH with a toad. We camped at Glenwood Springs West / Colorado River KOA in a Motorhome.

Heaton Bay/ White River National Forest, Frisco, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in C loop which has power and water but no sewer. C28 was a pull innsite rather than backin. Spacing is adequate between sites. You do get freeway noise from I70. Access to lake limited due to drought situation. Toilets are vaults or put, whichever you want to call it. There are. I dump stations anywhere in the various campgrounds and you have to drive about 5 miles away to a pay site to dump. I would think, that for a CG this size, there would be at least one dump station. People here were friendly but I think I would pass on this for future trips. We camped at Heaton Bay/ White River National Forest in a Motorhome.

Gunnison KOA, Gunnison, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Checking person is sort of knowledgeable but not totally in questions asked regarding KOA. The roads are a mess - dirt, rutted, mud holes everywhere. Spaces are a swath of gravel in between grass, which they are very proud of! The laundry room could use help. - 4 very small Washer and dryers. Just staying for the night so will not use most of facilities, but would not stay here again. Cost too much for what you get. We camped at Gunnison KOA in a Motorhome.

Dolores River Campground, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

From the road the park does not look like much, but once inside it is very expansive host any type of camping you desire. It is adjacent to the Dolores River and also has two small ponds between sites and the river. Staff is very friendly and they keep the CG spotless. My only gripe is that the gravel site for the RV is very narrow, but my rig fits. Nice quiet park and I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Dolores River Campground in a Motorhome.

Morefield Campground (NPS), Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in FHU site. Sites are basic and generally very uneven. Lots of deer around and views are amazing. We stayed after Labor Day so place was pretty empty. Day trippers were keeping park busy. If you don't like windy roads in and out that are steep - not the place for you. I would definitely stay here again during the off season. We camped at Morefield Campground (NPS) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Cortez is a few miles away and has good Mexican restaurants (La Casitas) and shopping for Native American art - but be prepared to spend some money. Notah-Dineh seems to be the best around.

Albuquerque Central KOA, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

Better than average KOA Park. Pleasant staff, guide you to site, very active during the day keeping things cleaned up. Our site was asphalt, but uneven. Most others were gravel. Spacing between units could be better, but was acceptable. Some freeway noise and actual location is not in o evif the better neighborhoods although we had no issues. Closed gate and security access after 7 pm. Not much shade and every pet area was rock - hardly any green around the area. We stayed in a "Deluxe" site and what that gives you is asphalt pad, concrete patio and lawn furniture. Not sure if I'd pay the price again for that vs regular site. We camped at Albuquerque Central KOA in a Motorhome.

Mountain Home RV Park, Mountain Home, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Our second stay here as we were here last year. Park is still top notch and are in process of adding additional sites so business must be good. They do have a limit on age of RV's allowed which I am not a total fan of as I have seen some very nice older rigs. OTOH, it does keep the junkers out. We camped at Mountain Home RV Park in a Motorhome.

Mountain Shadows RV Park, Draper, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Spaces are tight. Some shade, gravel pull through and some sites with a bit of grass. Lots of permanent residents here, but no issues for the two nights we were here. Pool area was clean. Staff very friendly and people working to maintain park daily. Our unit is 30 amp service, site only had 50 amp service - staff will loan an adapter to you if this occurs. Of note, though, is that I-15 is going to add two additional lanes both North and South. The RV park will lose part of its front area. Don't know exactly when this will occur, but pretty sure it will be a big mess and access a pain. We camped at Mountain Shadows RV Park in a Motorhome.

Deschutes County Fair & Expo RV Park, Redmond, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Good access to events at the fairgrounds. Restrooms are clean and well maintained. Campsites are mostly paved with very little grass. As another has said, BLM land is adjacent to the park and is good for pets to run. We camped at Deschutes County Fair & Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort, South Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Staff could really care less about your being there. Had made reservations with park, online, with type / size of RV. Upon arrival and at gate, handed a park map and told to "go find a site". So - drove around and saw a few open so picked the best of the worst. After getting into the very narrow site, first thing that happened was stepping in piles of dog crap. Obviously, cleaning the park was not high on the agenda. Site was trashy, park was trashy, The onsite "store" and "community center" was rarely open and when was on limited hours. Park had a lot of live in residents who appeared to have staked out their property lines. Very disappointed in the park - nothing like photos and write ups that appeared on line. Our stay was in the summer (review won't let me select the month) and had planned on 3 nights. Left after the 1 st night. Will not return to this park. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Newport was about it, and not much there. Went to get some fresh seafood and was hard to find any. Strange, as it is a fishing harbor and the timing was July/August.

Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort, South Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Very crowded campground. Everything was much smaller than depicted in ads / website. Even though we had reservations, with unit size stated, when we arrived we were told to go find our own site. Water pressure was very low. Every event or affair they offered had a price associated with it. On a positive note. It was relatively clean. I would not waste my time going there again. Very disapointed in Thousand Trails, overall. We camped at Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Having lived in Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay area for many years, I was very dissapointed in Newport. Kind of trashy, tacky and outrageously priced on seafood off the boat. Can buy it cheaper at Whole Foods than at local markets.
