Cottonwood RV Park, Bluff, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Although full hookups were available, and some modest shade from trees between some sites, this is otherwise a desert no-frills campground. It is OK as a base camp for the Monument Valley/Four Corners area. It was clean, scenic, and quiet. The town has a population of 300, a gas station, 3 eateries, 2 Indian merchandise shops, and 2 multipurpose 7/11 type stores. Most are well-worn, and it would be best to restock before landing here. We were told that few camp here in July, but that August and September were "busy". We were the only campers in the park on the 2-night weekend. We camped at Cottonwood RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Moab Rim RV Campark & Cabins, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We paid the Passport America rate for full hookups. The park is two miles South of town. The campground has gravel at the larger sites, with grass and some shade trees at the smaller ones. There are no laundry facilities in the park. Staff are pleasant, and exceptionally helpful with advice regarding attractions and scenic drives in the area This is a basic campground, but is a bargain when it comes to features per dollar. We camped at Moab Rim RV Campark & Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Sundowner West Camper and Recreational Park, Salina, Kansas

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We paid the Good Sam rate for full hookups. This is a clean but worn, older park with generously sized sites and friendly staff. This is a decent place and rate for an overnight stop. We camped at Sundowner West Camper and Recreational Park in a Travel Trailer.

Shady Grove Campground, Seibert, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We paid the Passport America rate for full hookups. This is a small campground that is clean, quiet, and cared for. This is a basic park with pleasant, enthusiastic owners. It is a good overnight park that could use an application of more gravel to the sites. We would happily return. We camped at Shady Grove Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Cottonwoods RV Park, Columbia, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The price cited was the Good Sam rate. This is a quiet, extremely well maintained campground with pleasant, helpful staff. Among other features, it has an antique shop in its main building! Although we used this as an overnight stop, we could comfortably spend much more time at this location. We camped at Cottonwoods RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

New Lisbon Family Campground, Straughn, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Pull through section appears to be for over nighters, and the rest of the park seems to be permanent/seasonal sites. The manager was friendly, and we were escorted to our assigned site. The park was litter-free. Interior roads were recently graveled, and site hookups were in good repair. This is a good overnight stop at the Passport America rate, and we would gladly return. We camped at New Lisbon Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Buttonwood Campground, Mifflintown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2009 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This park continues to upgrade itself each year. The location, sites, recreational facilities, and staff attitudes are all top drawer. If one wants to find some fault, one could suggest a few more washers & dryers. This is the type and level of park one continues to return to each year! We camped at Buttonwood Campground in a Motorhome.

Americamps RV Resort, Ashland, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2009 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

The charge cited included use of a 15 percent-off coupon and all taxes. This campground is somewhat high-priced, but its' nearly ideal location on Interstate 95 makes it a irresistible stop for those travelling long distances north or southward. It is within several hundred yards of the highway, so some road noise filters into the park. We do not consider it to be bothersome. After an unsettled year, the new ownership has initiated upgrades to campground maintenance and personnel. We will gladly return again. We camped at Americamps RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Florence RV Park (formerly Florence KOA), Florence, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2009 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

It is difficult to give too detailed a review, as numerous road delays caused us to arrive after office hours, and because we then departed at dawn the next morning before the office opened. Despite the campground's recorded message that the office would be open until 9 PM, we arrived at 8:30 to find the office closed and dark. However, there was a well lighted after hours registration desk outside the door. The honor system asked for personal and credit card information on the envelope which was to be submitted through a door slot. Unfortunately, there was no list of rates or charges. Nonetheless, we submitted the information, and called back via cell phone the next day to get the charge information. The park appeared neat and well-maintained, with many convenient pull-throughs and shaded sites. The charge shown included all taxes. We consider the KOA rate a bit stiff for the services, but if the situation were repeated would use the campground again. We camped at Florence RV Park (formerly Florence KOA) in a Travel Trailer.

Cypress Campground & RV Park, Winter Haven, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2009 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older but greatly upgraded park, but many lot sizes have more constricted widths and lengths than newly-designed campgrounds. The Office, the 3 Laundry facilities and 2 Bath/shower buildings, and about one-third of the campsites appear to be new. There is a walk-through gate from the back of the park to the side lot of the Wal-Mart super center next door. We found the campground functionally quite good but visually less than appealing. Several campsites had very soft sand, which made entry and exit a cautious effort to avoid bogging down. Although we will gladly return, we would also inspect our assigned site for firmness before parking there. The price cited was the Passport America rate for a full hookup site with all taxes included. We camped at Cypress Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

South of the Border, Dillon, South Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2009 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

When this park was built about 40 years ago it was way ahead of its time with its generous pull-through sites and full hookups. With the low rates charged (the listed rate credited an AARP discount) and location, it has been a consistent bargain location for overnight stops for us since the 1970s. Despite the increasingly tacky merchandise in the shops surrounding the campground, the park itself has been well maintained. The facilities are in decent repair, although the basic park has remained unchanged for many years. Unfortunately, upkeep efforts cannot overhaul the long-term decline of some systems. During our stay this time, a faint sewer odor kept wafting over the park. If we encounter this again, we may have to rethink our potential future use of the facility. We camped at South of the Border in a Travel Trailer.

Wilderness RV Resorts at Silver Springs, Silver Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2009 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is an ownership park with facilities to rent. It is a modern and extremely well-maintained campground. Laundry facilities were virtually new and spotless. The staff are courteous and responsive, and are clearly proud of the facility. Of special note is the small Cafe located just inside the park's gate. Open 6 days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM, it features good food and great coffee at very reasonable prices. The owner/waitress adds an upbeat note to each visit. The cost cited was the Passport America rate and all taxes for a full hookup site including cable TV. We will return. We camped at Wilderness RV Resorts at Silver Springs in a Travel Trailer.

Lake City RV Resort (formerly Oaks "N" Pines), Lake City, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2009 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This small campground is extremely hospitable and well-maintained. Staff are upbeat and helpful. The park is virtually alongside Interstate 10, and there is a constant murmur of road noise. We did not find that bothersome, although some may object. The daily rate shown is the Passport America rate for full hookups, and included all taxes. While not a destination park for us, it is thoroughly pleasant and will remain on our itinerary when we travel this way again. We camped at Lake City RV Resort (formerly Oaks "N" Pines) in a Travel Trailer.

Double J Campground and RV Park, Chatham, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2008 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

The price stated was for full hookups. This is an exceptionally neat and attractive, well laid-out park with nicely graveled sites and mature, healthy shade trees. The office is also a gift shop, but has no RV supplies. The staff is friendly. It is quite close to the highway, and road noise may bother some folks, but not us. The laundry is somewhat small (two washers and two dryers) for this size campground, which may result in a delay in accessing its use. There is a $2 per additional visitor to the campsite charge, with a maximum of four guests. We will gladly return if again in the area. We camped at Double J Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lazy Acres RV Park, Center Point, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2008 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

The price cited included a Good Sam discount and taxes. This is a newer park with all pull-through sites. It was extremely neat and well cared for. The staff was pleasant and efficient. The bathrooms included handicapped showers and toilet stalls and a wheelchair-accessible sink. The only reason we didn't rate this campground a "10" was the lack of mature shade. We camped at Lazy Acres RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
