Pioneer Park Campground, Somerset, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

No way this park deserves the current 7.9 rating - my opinion, the only way it gets it is because it has lots of activities. When you first pull in everything looks great, but then you get to your site... Interior roads are narrow and a mix of old asphalt, crushed stone and mud. The site itself was very small, a tree so close we can't use an awning, covered in cigarette butts, fire pit full of trash, wi-fi non-existant. We asked for a site near the bathhouse, and we weren't too far away, but what's the point when it's closed down - they didn't bother to tell us that when we checked in. It rained a lot while we were there (no fault of the campground) and several of the sites were extremely muddy, including ours and the one next to us. That didn't stop them from trying to squeeze someone in though - you'd think they'd get the hint when the second person asked for a different site because of the mud, but no, they kept sending folks over, even though there were several other sites available. We will not be back... We camped at Pioneer Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pumpkin Patch RV Resort, Hermon, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

If you have kids, and require entertainment for them or yourself, this is not the campground for you. It is very quiet, and what I'll call adult oriented - exactly what we were looking for. You can tell ownership takes pride in the campground as the grounds were immaculate. Interior roads are dirt, which created some dust, but for the most part folks stuck to the speed limit, which helped keep the dust down. Campers were friendly, and lots of dogs around, all kept on leashes - very unusual as our experience is that a lot of campers don't abide by the rule and let their dogs run free. The sites aren't overly wide, but were plenty long enough for our 5er and tow vehicle. The only drawback is that it's at least an hours drive to get to Mount Desert, and there isn't a whole lot else to do in the area. That said though, we'll be back there again. We camped at Pumpkin Patch RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Pine Hill RV Park, Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We booked last minute and were surprised we were able to get a site over Memorial Day weekend. As expected for a holiday weekend, the park was full, but surprisingly quiet. Sites are very tight, and if it wasn't for the field we were backed up to, it would have felt claustrophobic. Our site was only 30A, but that's because we booked so late. 50A is available in the park. It was hot so most folks had their AC running constantly, but there was no issue with power. The campground is convenient to I-80 and we would stay here again on an overnight, but given how tight the sites were, not sure we'd be back for a longer stay. We camped at Pine Hill RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Champagne Campground, Randolph Center, Vermont

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

What a fantastic campground! Quiet, good sized sites, lots of open space and immaculately kept grounds nestled in the mountains made for a great stay. As expected the campground was packed over the Labor Day weekend, but it was still quiet and campers were very respectful of each other.

Two reasons I didn't rate them a 10: poor electric and speeding.

Electric - Granted it was unusually hot while we were there so most RV had A/C running, and we were the last site in a fairly long row, but we had issues with low voltage, especially in the early morning.

Speeding - There are a number of seasonal and/or long term stay sites at the campground, and while the occupants were all super friendly and their sites very well maintained, they tended to drive very fast through the campground, to the point that I avoided certain areas while walking the dog for fear of being hit. The posted 10mph limit is largely ignored.

All in all a great stay and we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lake Champagne Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Freeport / Durham KOA, Durham, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first time camping in Maine, and it was a great experience. The campground feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, and took a while to get to from the highway, but overall convenient to Freeport and the Casco Bay area in general. Campground staff were very friendly, and there were a lot of activities the weekend we were there. Site was backed up to trees which provided just enough shade, but the site was muddy as the previous occupant had used a very large mat which killed the grass. I would return to this campground. We camped at Freeport / Durham KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Northampton / Springfield KOA, Westhampton, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I'd give this park a negative rating if I could. Started with an overcrowded, dirty office and very slow check-in process. Fairly tight roads and turns to get to our site, but the site itself wasn't bad - until I plugged in the electric. We kept losing power due to low voltage. Maintenance initially blamed other campers running their AC as the problem, and then only made a half-hearted attempt to fix the issue. Office staff couldn't get their stories straight about whether or not any other sites were available (I was told three different things), and then to make things worse lied to me. Demanded a full refund and left that evening, never to return.

While I note that our particular site wasn't bad, others were extremely tight, to the point that I'd be nervous about opening my awning in fear of hitting my neighbor's rig. We camped at Northampton / Springfield KOA in a Travel Trailer.
