Harry Gardner Park Campground, Toutle, Washington

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

What a find! This county park campground was destroyed during the Mt St Helen eruption in 1980 and was never rebuilt until this year. This little gem of a campground is right on the South Toutle (tootle) River. We were there on a weekend and there were only 3 RVs (including us) and a tent camper. There are 11 RV sites with 30amp electric and water and 11 tent sites with no services. There is a dump station available and pit toilets. No shower facilities. We walked along the river bank and took in the beautiful scenery. The St Helens visitor center was 6 miles west of here and the observation deck was 50 miles east. If you are into cycling this is one mother of a ride to the observation center! Not a single stop light or stop sign on smooth pavement!

Only ding for this CG is that we had zero Verizon wifi, but were able to send texts. We planned on staying a week but left after the weekend due to lack of connectivity (for work).

There is a camphost on site but we never saw them. Place could have used a mowing. Sites are nicely spaced and was super quiet!

Not really much to do here other than sit outside and enjoy nature and take a drive out to St Helens. We camped at Harry Gardner Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mazama Village (NPS Campground), Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This CG is a great location for taking in Crater Lake...just 6 miles from Rim Village. The sites and interior roads are very tight with a lot of tree damage from a tough winter. Very nice spacing between sites. All sites are heavily wooded, and not all sites have electricity. There are water spigots through the loops and at the dump station.

We wedged into site F10 with our 32' fifth wheel and had to use a come-a-long and strap to move bent trees out of the way. After exploring the rest of the CG later we should have parked in loop C. All sites are paved in C and a bit more big rig friendly.

There is little to no cell/wifi in the CG. In F10/9 area we had just enough cell to send simple texts with no photos or emoji's.

Restrooms were typical CG with dirty floors from a lot of foot traffic. Showers are individual locked rooms with luke warm water in a cold room.

The mosquitos were relentless and plentiful especially on hiking trails, CG...everywhere!

Overall it is a delightful CG and close to the Rim. We stayed two nights and that was enough to explore Crater Lake. We camped at Mazama Village (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Almond Tree RV Park, Chico, California

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Enjoyed our stay here. Very clean and well maintained RV Park with the owners on-site. Pride of ownership shows here! Most sites have shade with gravel pull through and back in. Streets are paved. Sites are a bit snug, but we've experienced much tighter. Appears that long term stays are not allowed since we did not see the classic pile up around the RV anywhere. Had super neighbors and quiet setting with easy on/off hwy 99. We were 6 miles from the beautiful Bidwell Park with miles of hiking and mountain biking trail. We competed in the Bidwell Rim2Rim 50k & half marathon trail run. Location was perfect for our need. Would definitely stay here again! Be sure to hit the Sierra Brewing Co. for lunch out on their patio. It was fabulous food in a great setting! We camped at Almond Tree RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Flag City RV Resort, Lodi, California

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We really enjoyed our 5 night stay here. Easy off the highway and great spacing for an RV park. Beautiful pool and hot tub and super clean restroom, laundry & showers. Although I did have a peeping frog in the shower one morning ????. They have the park segregated into long term, mid term and short term areas with restrooms and laundry in each area. Be aware if you are doing laundry you must get a laundry card from the front desk for a $5 deposit that is refunded once you returned it. The $5 is not used on machines, just strictly deposit. They do refund any unused money left on the card. Super restraurant at the Michael-David winery less than a mile away. Would definitely stay here again! We camped at Flag City RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Yosemite Ridge Resort, Groveland, California

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park served a purpose...a place to sleep at the end of long days in Yosemite. This is a small park with more park model rentals than RV sites. We were there the week of Memorial Day so I had made reservations a few months in advanced. Could have found a site short notice, but only for 1-2 nights as people were in and out of the park frequently. Even though you are 13 miles from the Yosemite park entrance it's still a 45-60 Minute drive to the Valley floor, Hetch Hetchy and Glacier Peak. Be sure to arrive at the park entrance before 8:30AM or after 4-5PM to avoid lines at the entrance and to find parking. Most days we were heading back to the RV about 2pm (we have a dog) and experienced 3mile long traffic trying to get into the park. Had a late start one morning and got to the entrance at 9:30. Had a 30 minute wait in traffic. Would recommend avoiding the valley floor on weekends...insanely crowded. We stuck to perimeter hikes over the holiday and visited the valley during the week. Wifi & Verizon cell coverage is terrible at the RV park. We had better connectivity in the Valley and took our camp chairs to set up under shade in the parking lots to get calls made and some online work done. Cable was really bad in site 4 and let front desk know. Took 4 days for someone to come and test it. All he said was, " yep, it's bad" and that was the last of it. One morning we had zero water at the campsite and in the bathhouses. Bathrooms were OLD and barely functional. The pool area was very nice though! We did drive through the Thousand trails RV park a few miles down the road. Very steep road in/out but many more campsites, but felt a bit overgrown and tight. We will probably give it a try next time. Overall Yosemite Ridge was OK for our needs to go to the park every day. We camped at Yosemite Ridge Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Dixon May Fair Campground, Dixon, California

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice RV sites for a fairground. Only about 13 sites with full hookups and 50amps. Well maintained gravels with decent spacing. The fair was pulling out when we pulled in so be sure to check the fairground activities before coming. All sites were full before we got there. Camp host is in the very end site and is who you need to look for after office hours. Decent place to overnight. Would stay here again! We camped at Dixon May Fair Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Santa Cruz Ranch RV Park, Scotts Valley, California

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

This park is located within a residential setting. Very low tree clearance at the entrance and had to go in the exit for additional clearance. Everything is tight in this park. We were instructed to keep the entire RV including slides within the white lines...which was impossible. We were told that the fire marshall would ask us to move our RV if we didn't stay in the lines. No one was within the lines. Hard to navigate our 32' fifth wheel into our site but just fit. Not enough room for our truck and hung over into the street, which makes it challenging for others to navigate. Lots of permanent folks with lots of kids loose in the park. We were ok but just watch when driving around. Pool, spa, laundry and bathrooms were in good shape and in working order. Good location for exploring Santa Cruz, Pacifica to Carmel but very expensive! Might stay here again if we didn't have other options. We camped at Santa Cruz Ranch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Placer County Fair, Roseville, California

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I was desperate for overnight parking as 4 other parks I called from Loomis to Sacramento were booked up. Placer County Fair Grounds made space for me as they were pretty booked as well. Most campsites were occupied by long term folks that were packed in like sardines. The camp host gave me a spot off to myself with electricity only which was a relief after seeing the sardine sites. I stayed by myself while my husband was on a trip and didn't feel comfortable there by myself. Ended up moving to our family's driveway the next day. Depending on what is going on at the fairgrounds could impact your visit. Some sort of races going on when I got there on a Saturday afternoon so it was loud...but was over by 7pm. Appreciated the camp hosts giving me a nice site but I just felt unsettled while there. We camped at Placer County Fair in a Fifth Wheel.

Ute Lake State Park, Logan, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice CG with very long pull through campsites and good spacing between sites. Has a very nice view of the lake, good showers/restrooms with flush toilet in our section. Consistent 50amp service which was helpful for AC while there. Had front row seat for the lunar eclipse. Would have stayed longer but the goat head stickers were bad for our dog's paws. They were everywhere sticking to shoes, rugs & clothes. Used dog booties for our dog, but it was a pain to put them on every time he needed to go out. Too bad...we liked the park a lot. We camped at Ute Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Texhoma Park, Dumas, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Came to Dumas,Tx for the Texas Tumbleweed 100 mile bike ride. The Texoma City Campground was a convenient place to park. Free overnight. The City asks that you only stay 24hrs, but we stayed 48 without any problem. The CG had about 12 RV's stay each night. This is your very basic parking lot "camping" with electric HU, free dump station and water available all for a donation. The CG is adjacent to train tracks so you get the whistle for about 15 seconds 3-5 times a day...no big deal. We camped at Texhoma Park in a Fifth Wheel.
