Paria Canyon Guest Ranch, Kanab, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Life unplugged. No net, no phones, no TV, and no problem with it. This is a group camp facility that has 3 or 4 full hookup sites and a lot of space for dry camping. They could do more but that is just not their focus. We stopped here because other RV camps were full, and got lucky. We shared the grounds with two groups of international trekkers tenting their way across America. We managed to back in to the sole available spot for a 45 foot MH, with sites on either side very close. Had an invisible neighbor on the right and a transition neighbor on the left for one night. Didn't really feel crowded. Took a bit of jockeying to clear the slides from utilities. Nice shade trees on each side and a mostly level site. Shared a sewer connection with the site next to us through a "Y" connection, our side ran slightly uphill. 30 amp power was clean and strong. The quiet beauty of the place and the friendly managers made the stay memorable. Red rock and horses. We visited Horseshoe Bend and Glen Canyon in Page and made a trip to Kanab just to check out the area. A large area to walk the dog off leash, complete with bunnies, and the stirring rock formations made for a very "off the grid" experience. Not for everyone, my wife was stir crazy at the lack of electronic access, I would recommend this spot in a heartbeat as an alternative to the more crowded campgrounds nearby. It's like staying at a friends ranch for the weekend. A real find. There was space for our 26 ft cargo trailer nearby. We camped at Paria Canyon Guest Ranch in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Horseshoe Bend of the Grand Canyon and Glen Canyon Dam are in Page, about 20 miles east and Kanab is 40 miles west. Lake Powell, what is left of it, is accessed in Page. There is a Walmart in Page, but Page is not Walmart, hang a right and go up on the hill to find town.

Zane Grey RV Park (55+ park), Camp Verde, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Overpriced for what you get. The sites were relatively level and average in size. Large trees provided some shade, but like most rural parks in Arizona, the roads and sites are dirt, dirt, and more dirt, which resulted in dust, dust, and more dust. They periodically started up an old water truck to spray the roads, but let it idle long enough that we were almost overcome with diesel fumes. The deal breaker was the two work campers who spent about an hour causing a huge dust storm around our freshly washed coach (and everyone else's rig) with leaf blowers. It is clear that management's first priority is not the people staying here. We camped at Zane Grey RV Park (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Hilltop RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Barely adequate for overnight stopover only because it is apparently the best available. All sites are close together and dirt - Not gravel. Gravel must be a non-existent commodity in west Texas. The dirt blows in the wind and it is impossible not to track it into your coach. Although it was not raining while we were there, the dirt roads show evidence of coaches/trailers sinking into mud during recent rains. Terribly overpriced for what it is. Had it not been a cold night, would have preferred the local Walmart parking lot. We camped at Hilltop RV Park in a Motorhome.
