About Smoresinsmalltowns

I am a camping guru. I camp from March-Oct.We used to camp all over the place but a couple years ago we stumbled across Gold Mountain RV Park in Hedley, BC. Since then we have really become attached to it and have booked as many stays as we can there. We camp in large groups with family and friends. I also have a camping blog called: smoresinsmalltowns.com with articles that have been published by different magazines.

Dutch Lake Resort, Clearwater, British Columbia

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We camped as a large group. We loved this campground. A beautiful lake and lots to do in the area. We did day trips to Wells Grey. The campsites are super spacious. I wouldn't want to be in any of the middle sites - no shade. Sites 32-37 are the best ones in the campground. The cabins were really nice too. Dog friendly. Cell services. Lots of hike/bike trails. We camped at Dutch Lake Resort in a Motorhome.

Banbury Green, Kaleden, British Columbia

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed many times at Banbury.

The good: the location - some spots are right on the lake, amenities are great - showers, washrooms, watercraft rentals, dog friendly, playground, close to town if you need anything.

The bad: We paid $55 a night last June for Father's Day weekend. We are locals. This is just too much money. Also - the management is rude. The customer service is poor. Nobody wanders around to check on things or see if people need anything or how their stay is. Once that office is closed, they are gone. We camped at Banbury Green in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Try to get a spot on the lake - but when you can swim in the lake. You might as well get good use of the lake if you are paying $55 a night.

Gold Mountain RV Park, Hedley, British Columbia

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

I cannot possibly say enough fantastic things about this campground and the owners.

All sites are 30 amp electrical. Some have sewer. If not, free sani dump right in the park! Some river view sites. Pet friendly - must be on a leash though and you must pick up after your dog - it's a respectful rule!

For kids - giant chess board, horseshoes, playground, safe campground, river for fishing, swimming, gold panning. Hike trails around the campground. Lots to do in Hedley, BC - tour Mascot Mines, museum, market or float the river!

Campsite - Approx 24 campsites, 4 rustic cabins to rent (with beautiful decks and views of the river)and also a newer RV for rent! Shower house. $1 for a 5 minute shower. Flush toilets, store with ice, candy and a few things you may have forgot.

Cell service, town in 5 minutes away and sells liquor and anything else you need.

Summer kitchen for family gatherings and potluck dinners. Laundrymat on site. Fresh coffee on every morning for campers! Wood is per wheelbarrow and SO CHEAP compared to a tiny 4 piece plastic wrapped bundle you get from provincial parks.

Now... about the owners. Amazing people. The nicest camp hosts you will ever meet. They check on all of their guests to make sure they have what they need and are having a good time. They host 4 theme weekends a year where they do NOT raise the prices of the campsites but instead provide games, prizes, food and other perks to all campers. IE: Western Theme, Mardis Gras, Mexican Fiesta, Christmas in July, Wine and Pasta Competition. These are most definitely the best weekends to book to maximize your fun!

I would highly recommend this campground for family reunions and weddings, large birthday gatherings or just get togethers.

This is 1 hour from Penticton/Osoyoos. 3.5 hours from Vancouver. It's the perfect distance to get-away for a weekend.

This campground is beautifully manicured with big trees to shade you and spots to bask in the sun. It is SUPER clean. We camped at Gold Mountain RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
