Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park, West Memphis, Arkansas

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This was our fourth time staying here and the first time we weren't able to get a "front row" site to the river. The price reflects a site in an area they call the woods. They must have had some flooding since there were gullies dug on either side of the site as you entered. Made it difficult to avoid driving on the grass which is apparently taboo. The hookups were conveniently located and worked fine. The WiFi was non-existent. The picnic table was adequate, although warped from the sun. We were able to get satellite just fine. The bugs at night, mosquitoes, gnats, whatever, were the worst I've ever experienced so we didn't stay outside after dusk. This may have been due to the possible recent flooding. Not sure. We'll come back. We always do. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Motorhome.

Ancient Redwoods RV Park, Redcrest, California

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Let me preface this review by saying I don't give many 10 Excellent ratings since I rely heavily on reviews when selecting a campground and want the real scoop. This RV Park is perfectly situated to explore the redwoods on the Avenue of the Ancients, visit the towns up and down Hwy 101, and even drive out to the Lost Coast. Our site was a 70 foot paved pull through with a generous grassy area between the adjacent sites. The roads in and out of the campground were wide and easy to navigate. One thing, pulling into the campground from the south caused us to be pointing in the wrong direction with our tow, so we disconnected in front of the office and had plenty of room to turn our 45' MH around to enter the campground. The connections were well situated and worked fine. Our site was open to the sky so we got satellite reception. There's a very nice gift shop and small store with a good selection of wine, beer, and most important, ice cream. My only nit pick was the WiFi. It worked fine, but it was limited. You were given 1 1GB coupon per day, which goes fast. You could purchase more, but it was expensive; $5 per GB. Since there is no cell service in the campground it would be nice if the WiFi was free and unlimited. Not for streaming of course. Anyway, I highly recommend this campground. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

Visit the Victorian town of Ferndale and the mercantile store there. We ate at the pizza restaurant that had a few local brews on tap and surprisingly good pizza. Black raspberries were in season and plentiful along the borders of the campground.

Tombstone Territories RV Resort, Huachuca City, Arizona

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We read the reviews of RV parks in and around Tombstone and opted for Tombstone Territories with the spacious pull through, 4000 plus feet elevation, and views in every direction. It is less than 10 miles to Tombstone and a half hour drive to Bisbee and a nice respite after a day of sight seeing. Our site was long and wide with beautiful views and the hookups were well placed and worked fine. The site was open to the sky for satellite reception and interior roads were easy to navigate. Easy in and out of the park too. The sites were hard packed gravel and surprisingly dust free. The laundry room was very clean and the six washers were front loaders. There was a clothesline with clothe pins that I took advantage of. With the heat and nice breeze, the clothes dried quickly and the sheets had that outdoor smell. Will definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Tombstone Territories RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Travelers World RV Resort, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We chose this park due to its proximity to the River Walk bike trails. Access to the trail system is next to the park entrance. The park is well cared for and clean. Our site was a long pull through open to the sky for satellite with a few small trees scattered here and there for some shade. The hookups were fine and well placed except for the electric which was on the rear passenger side. It seems every other site (odd numbers) is like this. No matter. We could reach. The park was quiet at night except for the locusts that could be boisterous at times. We camped at Travelers World RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the missions on the Mission Trail (there are four) either by bicycle (from the River Walk trail) or car. Eat at Augie's Alamo City BBQ Steakhouse. Very reasonable and very good!! You can ride your bicycle to the downtown river walk, but it is five miles each way and you have to lock your bike (use a Kryptonite lock) at a bike rack away from the actual river walk which is pedestrian only. We drove in for the one day, but parking was super expensive and hard to find.

Needles KOA, Needles, California

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This was a good overnight stop on our way from tombstone to Yosemite. The camp hosts were very nice and the site was perfect for an overnight stay. We only hooked up our water and electric and they were well positioned. It was so hot we didn't venture out until morning There was a nice swing by the dog park where we had our coffee before heading out. We camped at Needles KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a really nice gift shop and we found the prices to be reasonable. They have a good selection of ice cream and beer. There are only nine sites with 50 amp service. Coming from I-40 west there is no exit for the campground so we had to go to the next exit and backtrack. The camp host said there are better directions on their web page. Leaving in the morning the entrance to I-40 was a piece of cake.

Los Banos West / I-5 KOA , Santa Nella, California

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

I read the reviews about this campground and saw how bad the place was, but thought really how bad could it be? It's a KOA right? I used to believe that you could count on a minimum acceptable standard from a campground affiliated with KOA. Apparently not in the case of this campground. The first adjective that came to mind to describe this campground is dump. And then sad neglect. We reserved a site online for a pull through site long enough for our RV and tow for an overnight stop and we didn't want to unhook. The length of our RV is stored in our profile and I selected the option Motorhome Towing when specifying our equipment when making the reservation. A site that met this criteria was listed as available and we reserved it. When we got to the campground our initial impression was that it was a bit far from the interstate and there was what looked like a homeless tent city in from of the campground. This turned out to be some kind of a flea market. We went into the office and finalized our registration and I noticed on the camp map that our site did not look very long. I mentioned this to the worker who said she was surprised we even were able to reserve a site since they were full and we actually got the last site. We exited the office and drove past countless unoccupied sites (all too short anyway) and arrived at our site that was way too short. We had to unhook and our 45 foot RV barely fit on the site; we hung out a bit. There was no room to park our tow so we wedged it on the side of our RV where the sad picnic table was. The hookups were positioned such that all we could use was the electric. The roads were dirt and grass was non-existent. We took solace in the fact that is was just for one night. There was a rest area a few miles further on the interstate. In hindsight we would have been better off staying there for the night. Don't stay here. There is a rest area in both directions on the interstate that would be a better overnight parking place. We camped at Los Banos West / I-5 KOA in a Motorhome.

Wild West RV Park, Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Satisfactory park to stop for an overnight. The person checking us in was very pleasant. We did not want to hook up so we were told too stay in the lot across the street and choose any site we want. There were lots of spots to choose from. We pulled in to #42 through another site behind it basically taking up two spots. The water and electric hookups worked fine. We did not connect to the sewer or the cable. This park supplied all of our needs for the night and was reasonably priced. We camped at Wild West RV Park in a Motorhome.

Whispering Oaks RV Park (Formerly Columbus KOA), Weimar, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great place to stay for an overnight stop. Very convenient to I-10. We called and reserved our site stating we would not be arriving until after 8:00 pm. The woman that took our reservation was very pleasant and said our site information would be in a box outside of the office waiting for us to arrived. Our site was a long pull through that was easy to navigate and more than long enough for our RV and tow. There was a large tree on our site so no satellite, but there were plenty of OTA channels. We'll stay here again if in the area. We camped at Whispering Oaks RV Park (Formerly Columbus KOA) in a Motorhome.

French Quarter RV Resort, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $120.00
Overall Rating:

Nice RV Park within walking distance of the French Quarter. The rate reflects a premium site which was a large spacious paved back-in site near the pool area and included a nice screened gazebo with a table and four chairs, ceiling fan, and lights. The hookups were well situated. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. They have lots of information on what to do in the area and can arrange tours if you like. The RV Park is gated and surrounded by a tall masonry wall so we felt quite safe there. Although you can walk to the French Quarter, it was hot in July so we Ubered. $7.00 We will definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at French Quarter RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We took the St. Louis #1 Cemetery Tour. It was okay. Kind of small and run down. Take the Lafayette Cemetery Tour. Ride the St. Charles street car and see all the nice mansions. Eat beignets Café Beignet on Royal and Conti. This is an open French-style bistro that serves more than just beignets. They serve mimosas too. Avoid the crowds. Have a drink at the carousel bar in the Hotel Monteleone.

Pandion Ridge Luxury RV Resort, Orange Beach, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $74.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed here before a couple of times for a week during the month of October, but never in July. We needed a place to stay to get us through the July 4th holiday and there was a premium lake front site available so we booked it for the week before and the week of July 4th. The rate was $74.00 per night (before any discounts) and jumped up to $109.00 per night for the 4th thru the 7th. Both weeks were fairly booked up and full of families enjoying their vacation. There were lots of children so you had to be especially careful driving in the park even at the posted 5 mph speed limit. All the kids were well behaved and it was surprisingly quiet for the holiday weeks. We brought our bicycles and rode from the park to the State biking trails about a 1/2 mile ride through the woods. The park says they plan to upgrade the trails which really need it since they are largely sand and wood chips, but it was great having such close access to the state bike trails. The park is very convenient to the Foley Beach Express (Toll), the Wharf, restaurants, and the beaches. There is a Walmart and Rouses supermarket within a few miles. The best restaurants are in this area too IMHO (Acme Oyster House, Big Mike's Steakhouse, and Flippers). All sites are wide, long, and concrete. Very spacious. The hookups are all together and situated mid-way on the site. There is a nice picnic table too. We were lake front so we drank our coffee each morning enjoying the sunrise over the lake. We'll be back this October. We camped at Pandion Ridge Luxury RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Cypress Trail RV Resort, Fort Myers, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for two nights while getting service nearby. I called the office to make reservations and inquire about any discounts, but never received a call back. I eventually made our reservation online as this was the closest RV park to our service provider. We were met at the gate and led to our site by a very nice work camper. The site was a pull in on the smaller of the two lakes and was easy to pull in to. There was no WIFI at the site as advertised. Apparently you have to get a modem from the office. This information was not relayed to us so we did without WIFI. There was cable at the site, but we used our satellite. The roads are all asphalt and the sites are all concreted or paved. The park is nicely laid out with side walks making the roads a bit wider. This is off season so the park was very quiet. We did hear the highway in the morning and afternoons for rush hour. When leaving there was no place to hook up our two vehicle so we hooked up on the road we were on. Very easy to navigate backing out of our lot, hooking up, and navigating to exit the park. We camped at Cypress Trail RV Resort in a Motorhome.
