Whispering Surf Camping Resort, Pentwater, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

New owners in 2017/18 have made many improvements to the park. Sparkling clean facilities! A wonderful, early 1900's lodge hosts games, books, puzzles, a large screen TV, BINGO nights, pancake breakfasts (free!), weekend morning coffee (free!). It is a great family campground, and pet friendly with a new Bark Park. Beautiful Lake Michigan sand beaches a 10 minute walk away, and sandy Bass Lake has a private beach for campers. Love it here! We camped at Whispering Surf Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Pentwater village is 4 miles away, with plenty of shops, restaurants, Mears State Park, fishing pier, music and cultural events. A great small town atmosphere. Ludington has many "big box stores" and is about 12 miles north of the campground. Many beautiful beaches/parks to visit.

4 Aces RV Park, Kinsley, Kansas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

A great basic little park. Friendly, accommodating owner greeted us, after answering an earlier phone call inquiring of availability. My Passport America app said $15.00, plus there was a $2.00 electricity "surcharge". Nice pull-through sites, plus other back-in sites. Nice grassy area near the creek. A covered pavilion with tables, chairs, and games such as ladder ball. A free DVD lending library and book exchange. I would certainly stay here again. About 30 miles from Dodge City and Camp Dodge. Kinsley has a well-stocked store, and a few restaurants. Nice midwestern town. It rained for 3 days while we sought harbor here, and the roads and grass had puddles but no problem flooding. We camped in a 30 foot travel trailer. We camped at 4 Aces RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Dodge City and Fort Dodge and about 30 miles away. Historic western culture. There was a casino but we did not visit. It rained, and just on the edge of snow storm so we were huddled in to wait out the storm. Wish we'd had better weather to tour Fort Dodge especially?

Tombstone Territories RV Resort, Huachuca City, Arizona

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Well laid out park. Spacious, pull through sites. Very friendly and helpful staff. Binders full of information about local attractions, restaurants, services, etc. in the recreation room. Beautiful mountain views. Isolated, so very quiet, but only 12 miles to Tombstone. Nice set-up for their workampers. I would love to come back here and work one winter, or just stay here. Indoor heated pool. The hot tub was not an in-ground spa so might be difficult for some to climb in and out of? Nice laundry room with a clothesline next to it! I love line dried sheets! We camped at Tombstone Territories RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Turtle Rock RV Resort, Gold Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Nice location on Highway 101--you could easily walk to the beach! Sites were spacious. Wifi did not work well--it would be okay, then boot me off. Always reconnected but annoying. Shower rooms were often flooded from careless use of shower curtains. Water temperature was tempermental, too. Laundry room was upstairs, so a little inconvenient. Very nice office/rec room/exercise room. We would stay here again. We camped at Turtle Rock RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Emerald Forest Cabins & RV, Trinidad, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park in the Redwoods! Nice, well-shaded lots with big redwood trees. Mix of cabins and RV sites, and tent section. Store/office hours were very good--open until midnight! We loved it here. Wifi was spotty. Nice little restroom "bathhouse". Trinidad is a great oceanside town. We camped at Emerald Forest Cabins & RV in a Travel Trailer.

Richardson Grove Campground & RV Park, Garberville, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Passport America park. We stayed here 4 nights while visiting the Redwoods. WIFI rarely worked, even at the office. Several long term "campers", but the park was quiet. Some road noise from Highway 101, especially trucks braking as they came down the hill. Staff was very friendly. Early spring so gearing up for their busy season. Laundry facilities were poor--leaking washer and squeaky dryer. Restrooms could have been cleaner, especially the floors. Sites were spacious and the setting was pretty, and convenient for our needs. Overall we enjoyed our stay here. We camped at Richardson Grove Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Great location for seeing the southern Redwoods. Nice convenient store within walking distance. Nice shop across the road with coffee, smoothies, ice cream, etc, as well as gifts. The Richardson Grove State Park nearby is beautiful, but this park was a better camping choice for RV's.

Sleepy Hollow RV Park, Willits, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Passport America park along Highway 101. An adequate overnight stop. Self-registration and the office was never open, nor did anyone answer the phone or return our call. We tried all day to call to check availability. There was a bath house but it was locked? Pretty setting, with a pond and ducks begging for handouts! We would stop here again as it was not crowded and the price was right. I would not pay the $30.00 rate, though. We camped at Sleepy Hollow RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sun & Fun RV Park, Tulare, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Small, cramped sites, with many park models. Pool was not heated, and did not look clean. Hot tub was out of order. Bathroom floor has a puddle of water, still there the next morning. WIFI did not work well at all, even though we were told it would work. Chosen from the Passport America book. Rate given was higher than I'd found listed and we were told it recently went up. I would not stay here again. We camped at Sun & Fun RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fender's River Road Resort, Needles, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here due to the Passport America discount. Small park on the Colorado River. Mix of seasonal and overnight campers. Nice decks on the river to watch the water flow past. Sites were roomy, with nice trees for shade. Park could use some cosmetic upgrades,(peeling paint, etc) but was clean. Laundry room was very nice and efficient, and a good value. We would stay here again of traveling in this area. We camped at Fender's River Road Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed for 2 months to work at Spring Training. Very welcoming staff and friendly residents. Park has many trees and citrus fruit to pick as you like. Very warm pool and great hot tub. They have activities every day, but no pressure to join in. Good value in the laundry room, and I never had to wait for machines. Lots of motorcycles in the park, which my husband loved as he went on many rides to learn the areaWe plan to come back for the winter next year! Catalina State Park, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

One of the best restroom facilities I've seen in a state park. No sewer hook ups but each loop has a dump station in addition to the main dump at the entrance. Beautiful views and nice hiking trails. Spacious lots. Although the park was full, we never felt crowded. Hosts have been there for many years, and are very helpful. Quiet, as it is off the road quite a ways. We loved it here and will be back! We camped at Catalina State Park in a Travel Trailer.
