South Bend / Elkhart North KOA, Granger, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

The staff is fantastic, the park is clean and I truly felt safe at this campground. We stayed during the week and it was very quiet, but I'm sure that's not always the case, especially on the weekends. Like many other reviews state, the lot sizes are very skinny. They're long, but there's not much wiggle room and that's the main reason this park didn't get a 10 from me. We don't typically camp at these type of campgrounds. We love rustic camping with ample space between us and others. You really have no privacy here at all. I had to keep my blinds shut most of the time in order to get privacy. I would highly recommend widening the sites in the future. I would have loved sitting outside more, but I didn't like sitting right on top of the neighbors. My neighbor said he wouldn't have a fire because the fire ring was so close to our rig that smoke would have rolled right in my windows, which it would have. The trains didn't bother me at all, the tall pines are beautiful and I will likely be back. The price was pretty steep for a weekday, off-season stay, but it's to be expected in these type of parks. In any case, I would stay here again. We camped at South Bend / Elkhart North KOA in a Truck Camper.

Custer State Park - Game Lodge Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a must if you plan to stay in Custer State Park. We saw so many deer and bison and even a herd of 90 elk just minutes away from the campground. The showers had just opened for the season. The women's were excellent, but my husband said the men's showers were luke warm at best (which didn't help warm him up from the 20 degree temps outside). But that is honestly our only complaint. The park was clean, the sites are wonderful, the restroom facilities clean and the park itself is great! We will be back!

Lot spacing was spacious/nearby with mostly shady exposure. Site surface was a concrete pad featuring a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at Custer State Park - Game Lodge Campground in a Truck Camper.

Riverfront Park Campground, Havana, Illinois

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in early March as my husband was in town hunting snow geese. We absolutely loved this city park! It was our first time camping in a city park and there was so much to do and see, especially for our kids. The campground is located right next to the Illinois River and has wonderful views of the river itself. The park is a quick walk away, with two playgrounds, picnic areas, a walking trail and an amazing view of the town's bridge. There are 12 sites here, with electrical and water hook ups. Since we were here in the off-season, we did not have water hook ups or restroom facilities as both were closed off for the season, so if you plan to come during the off-season make sure you come equipped with water and restroom facilities. A quick drive over the town's bridge takes you to the heart of the Illinois wildlife country. The Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge is about a 10 minute drive from the campground and is worth a visit. It's unreal! The amount of waterfowl we saw was incredible and we were fortunate to see 10 eagles over the course of the weekend. We will definitely be staying in this campground when we return to the area. This little town knows how to utilize it's riverfront and the outskirts of town are just beautiful. Although she wasn't staying on site yet, the host of the campground came by and introduced herself and provided a lot of helpful information. We will be back! We camped at Riverfront Park Campground in a Truck Camper.
