Sangchris Lake State Park, Deer Run Campground, Rochester, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The Hickory campground was a great place to stay, very clean and well kept, and a beautiful setting right on the lake. The sites were level (all back-in), spacious and most were shaded from the afternoon sun. The staff was very friendly and helpful .... we mistakenly arrived at the another campground, and they led us over to Hickory. BTW, the other has no lake view, no flush plumbing, and no showers, so be careful which one you stay at. We camped at Sangchris Lake State Park, Deer Run Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area, Fort McCoy, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

A very rare NFS campground with full hook-ups! The sites were open with some shade trees. About half the sites are reservable (2 week max) and the rest are walk-ups. Laundry facilities were closeby (about a block away) as was a local cafe with good breakfasts and lunches. Big grocery shopping was about 30 mile away. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We definitely plan to return. We camped at Ocala National Forest / Salt Springs Rec Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Salt Springs is beautiful and feeds the several mile long Salt Springs Runs. Lots of bream, mullet, tilapia, and bass to fish for. Manatees come up from the Atlantic and winter in the warm spring water. We visited them daily in our canoe and even got close enough to touch them!

Highlands Hammock State Park, Sebring, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is average, but the park is great. Most sites were packed in close, with minimal privacy. Weekends fill up, so hope for quiet neighbors. The new bathhouse near site 130 is new, bright, and clean with 3 sets of washers and dryers. The other bathhouses are clean, but older. The park has an 1 mile 1-way loop canopy road with many trailheads (almost all loops) and is excellent for driving, walking or biking. We camped at Highlands Hammock State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Our favorite hike was the Cypress Swamp Trail. We would walk this short loop boardwalk trail at least once a day (usually twice). The sky and cypress trees cast their reflections on the smooth, dark surface of the water and always left us with a deep feeling of peace.

Flamingo Campground (NPS Campground), Homestead, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

A rare national park campground: electrical sites in the RV loop and hot showers not far away in the tent camping loops. Sites were level and open, but widely spaced. ATT tower was close by, so good cell and data reception. Bathrooms were basic, but very clean. Solar water heaters, so afternoons were best for hot shower availability. Daily ranger talks were very informative. We camped at Flamingo Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Nearest full-grocery store is an hours drive away. Marina store for snacks. The cafe was open for lunch, and their food was good. We enjoyed the boat tours.

Midway Campground - Big Cypress National Preserve, Ochopee, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Campground was very clean and well maintained. Bathroom facilities were very clean. All sites were level and open, with minimum privacy between sites. Campground is right off busy US 41, but quiets down at night. Cell reception was poor, but my antenna/amplifier system provided satisfactory ATT service. We camped at Midway Campground - Big Cypress National Preserve in a Travel Trailer.
