Grande Hot Springs Resort (formerly Eagles Hot Lake RV Park), La Grande, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Enjoyed our stay. There is very little shade at the spots, grassy area between sites. Small wooden picnic tables. No fire pits at the individual sites but a common fire pit with wood supplied. Pool is nice with hot springs water. Clean facility with two on site laundry rooms. Sites are gravel and mostly level. Roadways are easy to maneuver and gravel, which can be dusty. In fact, once you turn off of State Route 203 you must drive on about half mile of gravel road to this campground. Note, be sure to exit from Interstate 84 take exit 268 to avoid a longer gravel road drive to this campground. Flying J fuel service is available at Exit 268. [ RVPR Admin note: please noting correction to directions given in owners reply below.] Union Pacific train tracks nearby however, no train horn and when trains pass by you can barely hear them. Food at Flying J Restaurant is very good so don't pass it up. Drive 5 miles in to Union on State Route 203 and watch for deer in the town around evening. If using this campground to make a day trip to Joesph and Wallowa Lake, take 203 back towards La Grande then turn Right onto McAllister Road and it will take you straight onto Hwy 82. We camped at Grande Hot Springs Resort (formerly Eagles Hot Lake RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Mtn. View RV (formerly Mtn. View Holiday Trav-L-Park), Baker City, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was fast, staff very friendly. We had a pull through site and the park has lots of trees. Great little general store. Clean laundry room. The store and other buildings have a old west type appearance. Services are several miles away. Park is within a couple miles of Interstate 84. Nice grassy areas between sites however they ask not to use mats on the grass. Also they water them and can get your trailer and or vehicle wet. Overall a nice park and will stay again when in the area. We camped at Mtn. View RV (formerly Mtn. View Holiday Trav-L-Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Be sure to have a water pressure regulator as the water pressure was 60 lbs plus. Be sure and visit the Oregon Trial Interpretive Center if you are at all interested in how the early pioneers migrated to Oregon. Downtown Baker City is worth a drive and walk through.

The Narrows RV Park, Princeton, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Narrows RV Park for access to the Steens Mountains. This was a excellent campground for this area. Nice little store, restaurant, and tavern located on site. Staff was friendly and informative of area. Although sites we a little close together which prevents a awning from being put out, the entire area was graveled with nice concrete picnic table pad. Sites were level. We had a pull through site. They have Wi-Fi but slow. AT&T was one bar with 4G and extremely spotty. Our travel partners had Verizon and also limited. There is cable TV at this location. All the facilities were very clean, coin operated showers, bring lots of quarters. We would stay here again and hope too next year. We camped at The Narrows RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Pricey little store but expected for the area. Good selection in store. The store has a coffee espresso machine. Outstanding milkshakes and big. Steens Mountain Loop road is a must. Very dusty and lots of washboard so just be aware. Views of wild horses and wildlife. Loop road is around 52 miles but you must go clear to the top for some awesome views of the Alvord Desert. You will be standing at 9700 feet looking down a mile to the desert floor below.

Detroit Lake State Park, Detroit, Oregon

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This time of year only the F and G Sections were open, which are full hook-ups, and it is not crowded at all. The lake was very low but filling for the summer months, however, fishing was not good at all. We've stayed here before and fishing is generally good either from the bank or in a boat. Mostly trout and for those with a boat, kokanee fishing at times can be very good. No pull through sites, and if you have a Motor Coach, Large Fifth Wheel, or long trailer none of the sites in A-B Section will be suitable. All sites are back-in in all sections with paved sites, picnic table and fire pit. For most sites, they are paved and level. However, there are also sites with steep drops and then they level out. The web site does have some pictures of the selected sites but this doesn't always show the ramps well. H Section is water and electric only. There are gray water dumps scattered around within H Section so with a bucket you can dump gray water if necessary, however there is NO sewer dump within the park. Fishermans Bend Campground near Mill City has a dump station for free just outside their campground. During the summer months this park is VERY busy and lots of water skiing, jet skies and fishing boats. Some boats can be very loud. Sheriff Marine Patrols are on the lake and do a good job of keeping things safe. There are two local marinas and boats are available to rent for fishing as well as pontoon boats for families. There are boat slips available at the campground for rent and limited boat trailer parking at the two boat ramps. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Detroit has a few little restaurants, a couple of small stores with limited supplies. Not a lot to do in town as far a shopping or sight seeing. Kaine's Marina has fuel as well as boating and fishing supplies, but limited. Breitenbush Hot Springs is located about 30 miles up stream from the town of Detroit. Check their website for information and directions.

Nehalem Bay State Park, Nehalem, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed our stay at this campground. Paved, level sites. However, some sites are a bit tricky to get backed into due to trees and narrow roadway through the park. Travel trailers, and particularly fifth wheels and larger motorhomes, motor coaches need to pay particular attention to the low hanging trees along the roadway. Our travel partners actually came into contact with a tree limb while backing his fifth wheel into his site. There is also a horse campground located in the H Section. We walked through and saw several sites occupied. There are deer and bunnies, some of the deer will actually take food from your hand. Suggest giving them apples or carrots instead of people food as this is not good for them. Play area of kids, walk to beach is available however soft sand makes the walk a little difficult. Once at the beach, it is a very nice big beach. Typical state park hook ups, no sewer but the dump station if located on the way out and had two lanes to accommodate the large volume of campers using the dump station, so at times it is very, very busy. We camped at Nehalem Bay State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake of the Woods Resort, Klamath Falls, Oregon

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in early May, campground was busy with workers getting things ready for the season as they just opened on May 1st. Sites are not well defined as there is no gravel or other solid footing other than the forest floor. Some sites are pretty close to each other while others have some privacy. Depending upon which site you get, connections might be out of reach so park carefully. Some sewer connections are extended up above ground so make sure you have a good bridge or blocks to make a good flow for your line. However, this is a beautiful setting and once you get set up you will truly enjoy the stay.

Little store on site, very basic and pricey. A restaurant and bar also on site, food and service was outstanding. At the marina there is a little pizza place, as well as a mini store. Rentals seem about the same as other resorts, again they were busy this time of year getting equipment out of storage and ready for the summer. Staff were all very friendly, but busy. This was our first trip to this location but will definitely come back. During our three night stay we had rain, sleet, then snow, followed by sunny and warm skies before we left. We were told by staff that later in season this campground is booked solid so make reservations early. Big Fourth of July celebration. We camped at Lake of the Woods Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You are almost half way between Medford and Klamath Falls. This time of year fishing was excellent. Powerbait and a sinker from the bank, catching 18-20 inch trout.

Pioneer RV Park, Hermiston, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Pioneer RV during the Pendleton Round-Up. When we first tried to make our reservations we were put on a wait list as the park was full, needing two spaces as traveling with another party. The staff called us back in June and told us they had two spots that came open and booked us. The price of $32.00 per night was due to Round-Up pricing.

Overall this park is very nice, would have given a 10 rating but the traffic on the city street was very loud, particularly from the large trucks which were there due to onion harvest that was going on. Even when you sat outside the trucks and other cars were very noticeable and at times annoying.

It appears they put the overnighters or short term stays up near the road as a lot of the spaces were full with long term tenants, who appear to me local workers. I will say they do maintain this park and don't allow for trashy looking spaces. All spaces have a green grass patch between them, with sprinklers that are adjusted so as to not water your vehicles or RV.

Sewer hose needs to be long if you have a mid length dump as all sewer hook-ups are at the back of the site, water and power are mid site. 30-50 amp. The sites are well lit at night with a soft light.

Sites along fence are back in, but the majority of the sites are paved, level, and pull through. Paved roadway within the park and ample space to maneuver larger rigs, watched several large motor coaches and big 5er's coming and going with no apparent problems getting in our out.

Would stay again, staff was very friendly and stopped by to let us know that the grass would be mowed the next morning so we needed to move our chairs off the grass. They did mow and it started about 8:00am, but the crew was pretty quick and didn't leave any mess. We camped at Pioneer RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

No outside tables so be prepared to have your own outside table. Columbia River not far away for boating and fishing. We came for Pendleton Round-Up as did others during this time of year, about a 25 minute drive on I-84. Pilot Gas Station available at I-84 Junction which is about 3 miles away so gas and diesel available at reasonable price.

Seven Feathers RV Resort, Canyonville, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We did a on line reservation, upon arrival check-in was a breeze. They escort you to your spot. When you arrive if they are busy they have you form two lines to expedite the check-in process.

This is a absolutely well groomed and maintained park. Plenty of pull-through sites as well as back-in sites. For pet folks there is a fenced in dog area with sitting areas, we don't have a dog but noticed this area and it was very nice.

Nice play area for younger kids, the pool area is inside and very nice. Lockers, showers, including ADA. However, no lift for getting into pool or spa. Inside the pool area is also a reservable room for a group, as well as a fitness center with several treadmills, stationary weight machine and TV.

Nice concrete walking path completely around the park, very nice walking around looking at other RVs.

A shuttle for the casino comes through on a frequent basis. If you fuel at the Seven Feathers station there are two RV lanes in the same area as the trucks. Plus, if you have a Seven Feathers players card you get an additional discount on your fuel.

We used this stop for taking our grandsons to Wildlife Safari which was about 21 miles away. This is also a great place to stay for Crater Lake or Rogue River trips. The travel center has limited RV supplies as well as limited food mart. There is also a Burger King nearby.

Very enjoyable stay. During fire season they do not allow any open fires in the assigned BBQ areas or the fire rings sitting areas. No fire pits in the sites, only assigned areas. Plenty of places to walk, sit and watch.

This is a must stop place for overnight or for several days, we are already planning another stop at Seven Feathers RV. We camped at Seven Feathers RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You will notice when entering the driveway to the RV approach the roadway is attractive but winds, and long rigs need to be careful not to hit the curbs on either side. Note, this is not to mean larger RV's can not enter, just be aware of the curbs, you should notice the tire marks when you approach.

Detroit Lake State Park, Detroit, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This section of the park is water and electric. Sites are paved but not level so bring necessary leveling equipment. In fact, some sites while paved are very uneven with some buckling of the pavement.

The campground has lots of trees and foliage which provides for shade. If you are camped next to Highway 22 you can get a lot of road noise, if you are camped near the lake you can get a lot of boat noise. Overall it's not bad, after all you are camping outdoors.

Fishing by boat or from the bank is generally good, power bait works well. There is a fishing dock provided however, lake must be at least 3/4 full.

The Army Corps of Engineers use this lake for water and flood control, so they start to drain it in late September for the fall rains.

Detroit is a nice state campground and open year round, but they limit some loops during the winter months. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.
