Mountain Falls Luxury Motorcoach Resort (Class A Only), Lake Toxaway, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

The park itself was more of a subdivision. All the lots and the roads were well thought out. The office was nice, staff friendly. My site was large enough to accommodate my rig and tow vehicle albeit a little tight lengthwise. I had a nice view of the pond. The pad was level and all the services worked as they should. The wifi was okay. I was clocking enough speed to surf the net but not anything else. To be fair though, the local provider was there installing faster service. Overall, very nice place to stay for awhile. We camped at Mountain Falls Luxury Motorcoach Resort (Class A Only) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be wary of the roads getting to the resort. They are rather curvy and as one should expect the elevation changes quite a bit. There was a lot of road construction being done and it appears that when complete it will take quite a bit of the curves out of the road.

Nashville KOA, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $87.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site J1, although it was at the entrance, it was pretty quiet. The only noise was from the airport. Some of the larger planes were noticeable. It's a large park. The sites are spacious and ours was long enough that we didn't have to unhook our tow when entering or leaving. The only problem we seen was the width of the roads. It was evident in all the corners that some folks had trouble making the turns as there were plenty of ruts in those places. The park had plenty to do for kids. We'd loved to have gotten out and checked more out, but it literally rained the entire time we were there. The grounds people were on site to take new arrivals to their sites. The staff in the office was competent and polite. I had inquired about a late check out but was told it was not possible due to being booked up. I didn't believe them at first, but later on that weekend I seen they were. When we pulled out there was a line of motorhomes waiting to get in, several hours before check in. Quite possibly one of the nicest KOA offices I have ever seen. We camped at Nashville KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Opry Mills is really close. Plenty of places to eat. At Opry Mills we enjoyed the Bavarian Bierhause. It was a unique experience. They had live entertainment and plenty on tap to try. Imagine a German beer garden and that's what it is.

Matagorda Bay Nature Park, Matagorda, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

The park was extremely well laid out and easy to navigate. The sites were easy to back or pull into. All the connections were functional and well within reach of the coach. The space provided was large and roomy. The road around was very easy to navigate and find my spot. It is not lit well in the evenings, so bring a flashlight if you are a late check in as I was.

The local area is nice and easy get around. The drive to the beach and onto it was a unique experience. Be sure to get a beach tag for your vehicle, they are cheap.

I was there just after Hurricane Harvey and they had cleaned up pretty well in this area. The waters were still dirty looking and I suspect will be for some time as the Colorado River dumps into the Gulf at the park. It was dumping muddy water and the trash from the flood was washing right back up on the beach. No ones fault, it just was.

I don't know if the recent hurricane had an effect or not, but the water coming into my coach had a brownish color to it. Tasted fine, but after I figured it out I switched to drinking bottled water.

Side note: Bring bug spray. While there I don't know if something was different or what, but the mosquito's were ferocious. We camped at Matagorda Bay Nature Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring groceries. I like to buy where I am staying to boost the local economy, but the drive to town is long and there is not much of a town to speak of.

Hickory Point RV Park, Tarpon Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $73.00
Overall Rating:

The park is what was expected from an older part of Florida, quaint and lot's of snow birds. There was plenty of shade with lot's of Spanish moss hanging, so don't expect your satellite to work, but I did receive 30+/- over the air stations. Our spot was considered water view and it was. The park was extremely quiet and everyone in the park was extremely friendly. The only noise was from the occasional boat on the water. The spot was pretty level, consisted of crushed shells and coral which made the ambience even better. They cleaned the roads of leaves every day, routinely picked any debris and always made sure the place looked as good as possible. Hookups were modern and worked as designed. We've been to newer parks that didn't have this good of layouts. The roads were a little tight but all were manageable with our coach. Extremely easy to find, very close to downtown and a short commute to Tampa. If you have a boat, grab a spot here as they have their own boat ramp and docks. The online map slightly differs, but is a good representation. Our spot had plenty of room with a huge yard and lot's of shrubs and flowers that were well maintained. We camped at Hickory Point RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Need a quick dinner, just a few minutes north by bike from the entrance is Miss Vickie's. It's a waterside bar/restaurant. It's entirely outdoors and has an incredible view. It's tucked into the backside of the marina by the water. Very good food and great views of the sunset.

Bluewater Key RV Resort, Key West, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

What is there to say, this place lives up to the website that you book through. The staff was both courteous and the outdoor guys where friendly. BTW, the outdoor folks never quit, all day long they are running the roads picking up trash, trimming stuff & basically making everything look good all the time, even weekends we seen them out.

We knew going in that we had to switch sites mid-stay. The site we moved to had just had the coconuts removed so the RV was safe from damage. The trimming-truck had sprayed a little hydraulic fluid out on the pavers. This was easily avoided by us as we only found it after getting set up and onsite. This was the only issue we had.

Get up, coffee on the dock, fishing off the dock & sunset off the dock. The place is perfect. We WILL be going back. Gated entrance with your own code to enter.

The roads are very wide and easily manageable with whatever you are driving. Most sites we seen are both pull in and back in. This way you can plan how the outdoor living area suits you the best.

Vegetation was between sites to where you could not see and mostly could not hear the neighbors. This made the experience all the more personal. We camped at Bluewater Key RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Eat at Square Grouper, a few miles north of the resort & contact Native Charters (305-849-2873) out of Sugarloaf Marina which is 2 miles north. The food was excellent. The fishing was great but what made it better was Chris Duncan's personality. He was generous and patient to both the wife and I.

Big Meadow Family Campground, Townsend, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Our stay here was good. Big Meadows was very clean and well maintained. The turns in and out of the aisles are a little tight for a 45 footer. This is the only reason for the 9. The proximity to The Smoky's & Pigeon Forge is excellent. It's close enough to be handy and far enough to be on the quiet side. Everyone was friendly and nice, the staff was always out working making the place look good.

Beware, if you are out past curfew, the gates lock and you have to park outside and walk in. It's a little weird being locked out of the place if you are not back before curfew, but we're not out after midnight anyway.

Will definitely stay here again. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Cave Country RV Campground, Cave City, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Campground was well laid out and had great, roomy driveways for big rigs. Staff was extremely nice and accommodating. Just off the main road to Mammoth Cave National Park, about a 8-10 minute drive. Close to a few eateries and places to get some groceries.

We had a small, 15-20', ornamental tree that provided nice shade all day without obstructing our satellite. We camped at Cave Country RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort, Lajitas, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Great location to experience Big Bend area.

Beautiful sunsets!! Extremely nice folks there!

The occasional freak wind that swept through the area was a unpleasant surprise though. Put your chairs and items away before going exploring. Awning's were never even a consideration with the way the wind would suddenly gust up.

The overall condition of the park was very nice, if not a little sparse. But hey, you are in the desert. Having a bunch of greenery to water just doesn't make sense.

The amenities are aplenty with the resort across the road. The restaurant was excellent. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

FYI-bring groceries and gas. Your a fair distance to anything. The general store is next door for most major staples, but it can be a little pricey.
