Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park, Defuniak Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small park right off Hwy 331. There's a good bit of road noise but not distracting to us. We are 40' 5th wheel and were assigned site 21 - a pull through, which was too short. It is on the end of a row and we almost stick out in to the curve of the road, which is uncomfortable when other rigs go by. To get out we are going to have to back up into a field to line up with the road because the layout and being at the end of the row, it isn't possible to pull through and make the left at about 150 degrees. This is water and electric only so I feel the price is too high for no sewer hookup although the park is clean and well kept. Overall this is a nice little place and we would come back. We camped at Sapphire Island Camping & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Suwannee River State Park, Live Oak, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

FHU state park with room for big rigs! Not bad! It was easy to find right off of Route 90 and finding our site was easy too. We are a 40' 5th wheel and don't always have good luck in state parks, but we were assigned site 14, which was long, wide, level, private and an easy back in. Can't ask for much more than that. The utilities were well located and worked well. My only complaint about the site was that it was more dirt than grass or pine needles. We only stayed 2 nights but I had to put down my outside rug so I wouldn't track in dirt. It is very much forested and the trees are thinned out enough that parking wasn't a problem. There were a few trees that could have had a branch or 2 trimmed back but not bad overall. It is at least 10 or more miles to any town. Our Verizon cell signal was adequate - obviously we didn't get satellite through the trees. We would go back. It's a nice park. We camped at Suwannee River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp), Mayport, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park. It sits right on the channel where the ocean meets the St. John's River and immediately next to the docks where they tie up the Navy ships. On any given day you can watch Navy ships, cargo ships, fishing boats, pleasure boats, and/or cruise ships go in and out of the channel. The park is spotless clean, and well run. There are 2 dog runs right on the water's edge. One for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. The Navy wifi is excellent and Verizon cell signal is strong. You are not assigned a site but when you sign in they tell you what sites are available and you can choose which one you want. Let me say that site 22 is outstanding. Great view of the channel/ocean and it feels very roomy and comfortable. The sites are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel crowded and the utilities are placed well and work well. 22 is on the second row. While there, we had a great Thanksgiving pot luck with lots of people and lots of food. I will mention that, during our stay, we had more windy days than not. Very windy...25 to 40 mph winds. Could be time of year with weather highs and lows moving through, but too often it was 'stay indoors' wind. That's okay though because the view of the water from our big windows was just fine. We will go back anytime we are in the area. We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

The Barnyard RV Park, Lexington, South Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Very roomy pull through sites. We really enjoyed the elbow room of the sites. All the sites we saw were pull through and their angled so parking is easy. The sites are also long enough for our 40' fiver and our long bed dually. Utilities are well placed and worked fine. Didn't use the Wifi. Verizon signal was strong. Roads were easy to navigate. Nice park. We would absolutely come back. We camped at The Barnyard RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Great Outdoors RV Resort, Franklin, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Very, very nice park. We stayed a month. Monthly rate plus electric made the rate about $33 per day. Not bad for such a nice park. It is very clean and the owners are so helpful and friendly. The utilities worked fine and were well located. The sites are a little close, but not too bad. When you check in they bring you to your site and help you back in. That's always an added bonus. There is no Verizon cell signal. They have Wifi in the park, but no streaming and it slows down with heavy usage. We opted to go to the local Morris Broadband and get an internet modem for the month. That worked out great because it did Wifi calling since we had no Verizon. They allow you to wash your rig for $10. All in all a great place. We will be back. We camped at The Great Outdoors RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Creek Side RV Park, Damascus, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Quaint is the best word I can put to it. It's a very small campground right in town on the 'creek'. Damascus a cute town with walking trails, biking trails and beautiful scenery. The park is only about 6 sites backed up to the creek and they are tight. We are 39' 5th wheel and we felt squeezed in. Other than that it was a great place - quiet, clean and full of southern hospitality. Utilities are 30 amp (not 50), sewer & water and well placed and worked fine. We camped at Creek Side RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Paradise Lake Family Campground, Spout Spring, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second visit to this park. We have family in Lynchburg and this is the closest RV park to Lynchburg. It is clean, well run, kept up and a pleasant place to stay. The price is too steep but when you're the only game around....There is Wifi but we didn't use it. Our site was open sky so getting sat signal was no problem. There are also tree covered sites. There is a section that is seasonal, but it is separate from the transient section and it would appear that the seasonals keep up their area. Utilities are well placed and work as they should. We will stay here again. We camped at Paradise Lake Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hampton's Summer Wind RV Park, Dawson, West Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This park is okay for an overnighter. It's small, sits up on a hill overlooking some WV farmland and hills - very pretty scenery. The sites are laid out slanted for easy pull through, but they are on a slight hill. They ask that you come in the 2nd gate so when you go to park your utilities are uphill from your rig. If you were to come in from the 1st entrance and pull in to your sight then your utilities would be on the downhill sight. Makes a lot more sense to me. We couldn't hook up our sewer because it was uphill from our connection. It's clean, friendly and easy access to I-64. No amenities. The price is too high, in my opinion, because it is just a sight with utilities - nothing else. We would stay there again. We camped at Hampton's Summer Wind RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Kanawha River Campground, Point Pleasant, West Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

It is mostly seasonal and/or permanents. Some have lean-to's over their rig but none of them were really junky - just lived in. The lawn wasn't mowed or manicured. The sites are large chunks of gravel in spots throughout the grass. No rhyme or reason to the placing of the rock. It is definately NOT a destination park. There is no wifi, no cable, no amenities at all. The road within the park is okay, but the road getting to the park is horrible. At least they (West Virginia) put signs on the side of the road that says "rough road" or "bump", "dip" but they don't fix the problem. Pay attention to those signs and slow way down or you'll find yourself airborne! If you are coming from the west and traveling west on 2 then 62 to get to the park you'll see a bridge height sign that says 13.0 feet. We are 13.3+. Needless to say we pulled over and called the park. He told us semi trucks go under the railroad tressel all the time. It is arched. So we creep up on it and centerline it. It was fine. The sides are 13.0 but the center is plenty high enough. We camped at Kanawha River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Cornerstone Campground , New Castle, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park. It is mostly tree covered with one area in the open sky. The sites were roomy and the place was neat and clean. Grass was mowed and it was a pleasant place to stay for a few days. It's out in a corn field (which I really liked) and very near I-70. Quite a bit of road noise, but it didn't bother us. We had good Verizon cell signal and we were able to get Dish satellite signal also. The town of New Castle is larger than you'd think with many restaurants and shopping. We would stay here again. We camped at Cornerstone Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

River Valley Campground, Cherokee, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here numerous times in 2016 and 2017 and always enjoyed ourselves as well as the surrounding beauty. We had reservations to stay for over a month this coming October of 2019 and ended up cancelling. We needed to change our dates a couple of times due to unforeseen circumstances (having to go to Elkhart IN to have the RV repaired). The office person was very unaccepting of our circumstances and literally argued about not being allowed to change dates. She also didn't like the site that had been assigned to us when we originally made our reservation. Like we had anything to do with that decision. She has a reputation for being rude and uncooperative and most people try to stay away from her - especially those that stay at the park seasonally. Don't get on her bad side or she'll make your life miserable - they say. The park is great. The rules are strict and the office person is the task master. Beware! We camped at River Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Youngstown Air Reserve Station FamCamp, Vienna, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Very, very nice little campground. It's new (opened in May of 2018) with asphalt sites and asphalt road, grass between each site, well spaced and utilities in good location and good working order. There are 5 pull through sites that are FHU and the back in sites are 30 amp with no sewer. There is a conveniently located dump station. Our only complaint was no wifi. (There is no cable either, but we have satellite so don't care about cable.) As we pulled in off the road towards the gate, they started opening the side gate that we didn't have the obstacles. That made entry very easy. It's best to go to your site before you check in because there really isn't anywhere to park at the MWR office. Jason at the FamCamp office was terrific. We wouldn't hesitate to go there again. We camped at Youngstown Air Reserve Station FamCamp in a Fifth Wheel.

Holiday Pines Campground, Loganton, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

$38 (with GS discount) and no wifi, no cable and no way to get satellite. As you drive in you get the impression of one of those RV places where people have parked their RV's over the years and forgot about them. There are RV's in there that have green and/or black uck covering them and they date back many, many years. They have their 'stuff' outside all around their RV's and it just looks bad. Our site was 83, all the way in the back. It was a 90 degree back in with a tree stump on one side to avoid and a tree on the other side to avoid from a very narrow gravel road with woods on the far side. Very difficult back in. The lot was as uneven as it could be and still park there. It felt SO tippy! We had to put 3" under the low side tires and the jacks were still extremely extended. We tip-toed around in the RV because we felt too tippy. There really wasn't a good place to set up a chair and/or table outside because of the slope. Outside our back window was a Class C that belonged in a junk yard with crap piled all around it. We closed our blinds so we didn't have to look at it. Never again! And....this had a 6.3 rating when I booked it. Unbelievable!!! We camped at Holiday Pines Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hanscom AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Bedford, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

No frills. Not a destination park, but an okay location to use as a base to visit the Boston area. There are wooded sites that are W/E and open spaces that are FHU. The layout of the open spaces is very strange and when you pull in to the office you have passed the open spaces and either have to back up to the entrance road to drive to your site or drive through the wooded sites. Very bad layout. We were in the open sites area and they were fairly close together. All utilities worked fine and were located properly. They don't accept reservations, which in my humble opinion, is ridiculous. Personally, I hate going to a RV park without reservations. You drive through a neighborhood to reach the park. There is nothing special about the park, but nothing bad either. We would go back but only if we were in a bind to find a place. We camped at Hanscom AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Camden Hills RV Resort, Rockport, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second time to this park. There is nothing yucky or unsightly about this park. You don't drive in and get the feeling you're in jeopardy of having anything stolen or your worrying about your safety because the park is in the trees, grass is mowed and it is neat and clean. However, they have some issues. IMHO, in today's world, a RV park should have 2 things - WIFI (that you don't have to pay extra for) and some way to watch TV. Because of the trees you can't get satellite reception, there are no OTA stations that you can tune in to clearly so they should offer cable. They do not offer cable. We are TV people and would have left if didn't have shows recorded on our DVR that could last us the week we were there. They offer WIFI, but it is a pay-for service. Luckily the Verizon signal was good. These 2 issues mean a lot to us so they loose a lot of appeal because of those omissions. We found our site very pretty and comfortable and easy to get in to (#42) except it was unlevel. Had to put blocks under the tires on one side. The utilities are placed well and worked good. There is good spacing between the sites, which was comfortable. We didn't have any problems negotiation the interior roads except a couple of low branches around our site. As we were backing in to our site a pine tree branch was scraping our roof but there was no way to avoid it. After getting settled I went to the office and told them about 2 branches that needed to be removed before we left (in 5 more days). I then reminded them each day. Finally at 9:30 on the day of our departure they showed up to cut the branches making us an hour late in leaving on a somewhat long day. At least they took care of the problem, but waiting until the drop dead hour was a little disconcerting. They are too pricey - no discounts. Love the Rockport area very much, but we will try a different park next time. We camped at Camden Hills RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
