Caddo Lake State Park, Karnack, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the Woodpecker Loop which is the full hook up section. I would recommend the Woodpecker Loop over the Armadillo Loop due to the road noise in that loop. This would be a great park for a canoe or kayak. The canoe rental was closed while we were there. The trails are very nice. We had good Verizon service, satellite was really difficult, if the trees would have had leaves on them it would have been impossible Really my only complaint was the number of ticks, we really had to be keep an eye on the dogs, it seemed like everytime they went out we found ticks on them. We camped at Caddo Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

South Toledo Bend State Park, Anacoco, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

First thing you notice about this campground is the interior roads are in really sad shape. They are full of pot holes that have been filled with either gravel or dirt which quickly turn to mud. Don't go here hoping to keep your camper clean. The next thing you will notice is that the sites are REALLY sloped front to back. We were down as far as we could go on the tongue and noticed pretty much everyone else was the same way. Even some of the small motor homes had 5 or 6 blocks under the tires. The weekend is party time here, lots of the sites had a camper, boat, multiple trucks and ATV's, and since there isn't enough parking for all these vehicles they just park anywhere making the mud even worse. There was not a camp host to enforce any of the park rules like staying on the asphalt. I would highly recommend getting a site that has a deck, we didn't have one of these but they looked nice. The sites with a deck are: 2, 10, 30, 38, 44-50, 52, 53, 55. Not sure if any tent campers use these reviews, but the tent only campsites overlooked the lake from a nice bluff, #2 would be amazing. We camped at South Toledo Bend State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Palmetto Island State Park, Abbeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Great Park!! The sites are huge, lots of follage between the sites so you really can't see your neighbor. Could be a challenge to get satellite because of all the trees. Verizon works pretty well considering the location of the park. Very quiet. Free laundry too. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Buccaneer State Park, Waveland, Mississippi

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Some odd things about this park. First there are no fire rings, so people just have a fire where ever they like. There were remnants of a fire pretty much right outside our door. I would say this is closer to a RV Park than a State Park, your neighbors are pretty close and there are a lot of them. Also it seems that the weekends are party time, people get in golf carts, crank up the music and cruise the campground. Pretty strange, we didn't have this problem during the week. Also our campsite was very sloped front to back which made it a challenge to get unhooked. I would say the best thing about this park is the location. We camped at Buccaneer State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Martin Dies JR. State Park, Jasper, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Great place to get away. We were there for 4 nights and there were probably less than 10 other campers any night we were there. Lots of trees at this park, so if you need satellite you need to chose wisely. All the trails were closed while we were there but just walking around the campground itself can be very pleasant. There was a little road noise, but not bad. We camped at Martin Dies JR. State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Goose Island State Park, Rockport, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This park is still recovering from the last hurricane, but it is still an excellent park. Lots of trails to walk, lots of wildlife. Some of the sites can be a bit tight, so choose wisely. Our site had trees on both sides of the pad, which would have made it difficult to extend slides if we had them. Also some sites will not accommodate a tall RV. Nice dump station, but it is a little tight. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

BBQ Shack at 701 Palmetto Ave, had really good food, and reasonably priced. Done miss the shaved ice guy at the park in Rockport. Also the ACE Hardware is one of the nicest around.

Isla Blanca Park, South Padre Island, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

I just wanted to mention the strange layout of some of the campsites. We were in C234. I was getting ready to back into the site even though all the utilities would have been on the wrong side, someone came out and said you were supposed to pull into the site. O.K., but the problem is then you have to really work to get your truck out, especially if there are campers on either side of you. I guess this isn't a problem for a MH but it is for a 5th wheel or a travel trailer. Also once you do this then your tow vehicle is no longer on a pad and you have to deal with some very soft sand to try and get out. Thankfully I had 4x4 or I would have been stuck. The best thing about this park is the location. We camped at Isla Blanca Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Casa Blanca Intl. State Park, Laredo, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is the dirtiest Texas State Park I have ever stayed in. It's not the people working here's fault. There are plenty of dumpsters around, and there are people actively picking up trash, they are just overwhelmed. It must be the clientele. If this was the first Texas State Park I went to I wouldn't go to any others, and that is a shame, all the others have been really nice. I would look for sites in the 200's and 300's, the 100 loop seems to be nosier, closer together, and more crowded. We camped at Lake Casa Blanca Intl. State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Triple R Resort RV Park, Crystal City, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site #10, might have been the longest back in site I've ever had. This site backs up to the river. It was probably close to a mile to walk down to the lake from our site, but it was a great place to walk the dogs. The sites were very spacious. They had a nice laundry: $2/load and $1 to dry. We camped at Triple R Resort RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Kickapoo Cavern State Park, Brackettville, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Great secluded small campground. I would recommend calling to make sure they have a space before driving out. The road to get there (from Bracketteville) is a bit narrow, especially for Texas (i.e. no shoulder). The only cell service is if you take the .8 mile trail at the campground. The only issue we had was with ticks. It seems they were pretty much everywhere. We found 5 total. Just be aware and use bug spray and have your dogs treated. WiFi was o.k. for checking e-mail. The bat emergence is worth the trip. We camped at Kickapoo Cavern State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Absaroka Bay RV Park, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Not a bad park on the edge of town. The grounds are nice and clean, they could use a bigger area for pets, but at least they have an area. The WIFI seems to be good, but then there aren't many campers here this time of year. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I would stay here again. Fort Caspar Campground, Casper, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

$39 with a Good Sam discount for this place is crazy. It is mostly full of full time residents. It is all gravel, no grass, no picnic table, no fire pit. It's a place to park no more. If I hadn't needed hook ups for the night Wal-Mart would have been better. The folks that run the place are very friendly however. We camped at Fort Caspar Campground in a Travel Trailer.
