Blue Ridge Parkway / Otter Creek Campground, Bedford, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Pleasant and nice campground, very well maintained. Realize this is an older parkway campground that is small and the sites are in general designed for smaller campers. When researching sites on the website, when it says a site is 30 ft long, realize the site driveway is what's 30 ft long, and can be angled (the longer angle measurement is 30 ft.) Generally this will not accommodate an actual 30 ft trailer, and then there is the problem of parking your tow vehicle. The pull-through sites are best for longer rigs, not the back-ins. Plenty of beautiful local hikes in the area, very pleased with our visit. We camped at Blue Ridge Parkway / Otter Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Peaks of Otter Campground, Blue Ridge Parkway (NPS Campground), Bedford, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

This campground should just be closed. Words can not explain how unexceptionable it is. We didn't even stay here and forwent our prepaid 2 night reserved payment, as a donation to the park. I understand this is an older smaller campground similar to others along the parkway. That's fine and not the problem; this particular campground is not actually being maintained. For comparison, we traveled the parkway and stayed at a similar campground that was very clean and well maintained; they seem to do the best they can with what they have. We had reserved a 2 night stay at Peaks of Otter. We arrived, checked out our site and actually wondered if the campground was even open. The campground was mostly unmowed/untrimmed, overrun with invasive underbrush such as garlic mustard, bathroom closed; sign says use bathroom on loop A. The problem with this campground is there doesn't seem to be much if any day to day maintenance, in addition to the known (but acceptable) much needed upgrades and repairs. I would recommend staying here only for a night stop and only if absolutely necessary. We camped at Peaks of Otter Campground, Blue Ridge Parkway (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.
