Oak Grove Campground / Resort, Holland, Michigan

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Campground was very quiet during our 6 night stay. This facility is comprised of a lot of permanent park model trailers, all of which are exceptionally well cared for by their owners. It's obvious the CG/resort owners take a lot of pride in their facility. The office staff could be a bit friendlier but the property maintenance folks are second to none; all of whom were very cordial and helpful. If we ever find ourselves in the area again we wouldn't hesitate to return here. We camped at Oak Grove Campground / Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to do the Mt. Pisgah hike, take a lakefront stroll out to "Big Red" and visit downtown Holland. Can't recall the name of the tavern on Main St., but one of them make the best Bloody Mary's you'll find anywhere.

Lake Chippewa Campground, Hayward, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This CG is one of our all time favorites, ever, anywhere. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The facilities were very clean and our site was spacious, clean and quiet even though the lake was busy with a weekend Muskie fishing tournament. We stayed a few days longer than planned due to all of the above. We camped at Lake Chippewa Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Holiday Park Campground, Traverse City, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Nice clean location to setup for visiting the Traverse City region. We were there for only three days and didn't spend a lot of time at the CG. Loved downtown Traverse City and the surrounding area, especially the waterfront drive up to Mission Point. We camped at Holiday Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes for a great view of Lake Michigan and the surrounding areas. Take the Bayfront drive up to Mission Point and a stroll through downtown TC. Lots of good choices to grab a bite to eat and drink. We're sailors and as such were especially pleased to be in town for Wednesday night racing.

Diamond Lake Resort, Owensboro, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice folks run the place. Good service and reasonable prices on groceries and other items. But the place could use a bit of an upgrade. and what is up with all the golf carts??? According to what we were told by other RV'ers who were local it is the only CG in the area that allows golf carts. It was sort of cool the first night or two but it later became a major nuisance. We camped at Diamond Lake Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Ridgway State Park, Ridgway, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at PA CO CHU PUK (Cow Creek) for 5 nights. Located next to the Uncompagrhe River (a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream) it is a gorgeous location. You can fish in the river (catch and release) or the two ponds. The mountain scenery is second to none, especially at dawn or dusk. A herd of 12 mule deer grazed next to our camper while we too grazed on our dinner. Magic!!! As all other Colorado State CG's it was pristine with respect to cleanliness and staff service. Go here. You won't be disappointed. We camped at Ridgway State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you need to do some provisions shopping head up to Montrose which is about 20 miles north. Much better selection of stores and prices much more reasonable than down in Ridgway. The only food store in Ridgway other than the Dollar General is the Mountain Grocery store which is ridiculously overpriced. Even the locals joked about their pricing.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Great location above the madding crowd. Great hiking trails, we even saw a 2" diamondback rattlesnake. In the morning reveille is played at Ft Carson and taps in the evening. Our site was about 100 ft from the NORAD perimeter fencing. Morning and evenings lots of wildlife came to visit. Unfortunately, due to a fast moving snowstorm forecast to pummel the area we chose to leave a day early. I would not hesitate to return. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Injun Joe Campground, New London, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

In a nutshell, stay away. If we could give this place a zero we would do so. The bathrooms are beyond filthy, mold appears to be growing on the shower stall benches, trash everywhere. The ground around our campsite was littered with cigarette butts. The buildings and all infrastructure look like they have had no maintenance in years. The "locals" or weekenders were very unfriendly; in fact scary.

It's very unfortunate as the place looks like it may have been decent at one point many years ago. We found the place in an older Good Sam book but the campground was no longer affiliated with Good Sam so there was no discount available.

If visiting the Hannibal area for the Mark Twain historical features find another campground for your stay. We booked two nights but left after staying only one night. We camped at Injun Joe Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Black Bart's RV Park, Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The facility is long on the overdue maintenance schedule. The driveway into the place was severely rutted, the sites were totally uneven and also severely rutted. The lot # sign posts indicating our assigned spot was a joke. The bathrooms were very nice but were shared by the on-site restaurant; my feeling is if it weren't for the restaurant they too would be shabby like the rest of the place. Its close proximity to I-40 traffic make it noisy. Fortunately we only stayed for one night while passing through. If you're looking for a one night stay it's marginally okay, otherwise keep looking. We camped at Black Bart's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Kodachrome Basin State Park, Cannonville, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

During a recent two month trip we stayed here for four nights. It quickly became our favorite. The cleanliness of the park, it's amenities and the staff are top notch. The natural beauty that surrounds you within the basin are almost indescribable. There are numerous hiking options, most of which offer amazing views. It is beyond quiet and peaceful, and the night sky is simply stunning. Unless you are very lucky you need to plan way ahead to secure a spot. But it's worth it. James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park (Fruita Section), Fruita, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

All of the Colorado State Parks we stayed over the years are top notch, and this is no exception. Clean, well maintained, and great staff. Located next to the Colorado river, with lots of biking and casual walking choices. Good shopping nearby, and while we were there a weekend Mt. Bike and Microbrewery Festival took place in town. We camped at James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park (Fruita Section) in a Travel Trailer.
