Duck Creek RV Park, Paducah, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here just one night while passing through the area. The sites are very close together, but fine for a one night stay. Our site (18) was perfectly level - I've had concrete pads that were not as good! We wouldn't have even unhooked our truck but we had dinner reservations. Bathrooms were very clean. We didn't use the showers, but they were in individual rooms with a toilet and looked great. There is a pool but we did not have time to check it out. Only negative is how close the sites are. The inner roads were a little tight. Everything else was great. Verizon cell service was good. WiFi was decent, but not great. We would stay here again if passing through - very convenient to the interstate. We camped at Duck Creek RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you're looking for a nice dinner, head to Freight House (about 10 minutes from campground). We had a great anniversary dinner there. They have the most extensive bourbon list I've ever seen.

Tincup RV Park, Mahomet, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for one night while traveling through the area. The campground is nice and great for an overnight stay. Only real complaint was an electrical issue. When we plugged in our power management system (surge protector) at site 43, we got an "ground fault" error. We checked it at the next site over (site 44), which was empty, and no problems. I went to report the problem and ask if we could move and was told that surge protectors don't really work here - not the response that I was expecting. The surge protector did work, there was just an error at that site. Ultimately, we did move over to the other site, which was actually a bit more level so it all worked out in the end. There is quite a bit of road noise when you're outside, but not noticeable once we went to bed. Other than the issue with the electric, this was a great campground. We camped at Tincup RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Grand Portage Lodge and Casino, Grand Portage, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice enough campground in a place where there really aren't any other options. Site was reasonably level and hookups all in the middle, where you'd expect them. Good selection of pull-thru and back-in sites. Absolutely no Verizon cell service and WiFi was down when we were there. If you're visiting Grand Portage National Monument and/or taking the Isle Royale ferry, this is your closest and best option and nice enough for a few nights. We camped at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino in a Travel Trailer.

Drummond Lake Campground, Drummond, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We ended up staying here while visiting the Apostle Islands and are glad we did. It was about an hour drive up to Bayfield but it was worth it. Web site says reservations not needed, but we were glad we had them for July 4th weekend. Sites were a nice size and connections were all exactly where you'd expect them to be. Bathrooms were great (didn't use showers). Great Verizon cell service. Stopped in at the library to chat about things to do in the area and got some great suggestions. We'd definitely stay here again. We camped at Drummond Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Fanny Hooe Resort & Campground, Copper Harbor, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here one night after getting off the ferry from Isle Royale. Our site was ok - large enough but a little difficult to get level (mainly because we didn't want to unhook our truck). Bathrooms are a little dated but clean. WiFi worked well enough, but not great. Absolutely no Verizon service anywhere in Copper Harbor. Connections were on the "wrong" side of the site and up at the front - not convenient but we made it work. We camped at Lake Fanny Hooe Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Sunset Bay RV Resort & Campground, Ahmeek, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

I'd say this campground is hit or miss. Our site (#17) felt like a random piece of grass between 2 other sites. The water spigot for our site was with the the next site over - it was very odd. Electric was on the opposite side of the camper. Both water & electric required 50' connections. Some sites were clearly defined and looked great though. There is a dump station, but it is right in front of a couple of tent sites. We had to leave early to catch the ferry to Isle Royale from Copper Harbor and didn't want to dump at 6 am next to the tenters. Mosquitos were horrible - couldn't enjoy the outdoors at all. We sometimes got a weak Verizon signal; same with WiFi. Sunset here is great - that is certainly the draw. We camped at Sunset Bay RV Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Pictured Rocks RV Park & Campground, Christmas, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This is a fairly new campground that is off to a great start and I imagine will only get better. The sites are mostly level and are well spaced apart. There is plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. Our site (#66) is technically a back-in but we were told to pull through to get into it (yay!). Bathrooms are very nice with individual shower rooms. The biggest downside is there are no trees anywhere other than the edges of the campground. There is also no laundry. Wifi is hit or miss - works when it wants to (or maybe when there's not too many other people using it). Verizon signal is fairly weak, but usually enough to check email and use the internet. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Pictured Rocks RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Straits State Park, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice state park campground. The sites are not necessarily level and there are only electric hookups (no water or sewer), but we still enjoyed our stay. Our site (#32) was fairly private. It did back up to a cemetery which didn't both me, but I suppose might bother some people (there was a fence so it wasn't obvious). Bathrooms were very clean. We didn't use the showers, but they were private rooms that looked nice. Verizon signal was pretty good. My biggest complaint is that for a 3 night stay we needed to have a 4 day Michigan State Parks pass. It was cheaper for us to buy the annual pass for $33 than pay $9/day. We camped at Straits State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Indigo Bluffs RV Park & Resort, Empire, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great campground not far from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. There are two parts for the campground - the RV Park and the RV Resort. The "park" side is cheaper, though still higher than I'd like. From what I could tell that's just the way it is in this area. On the "park" side, the sites were well-shaded and fairly well spaced apart. I'd say the next site was nearby, but we still had plenty of space and did not feel cramped. Our site was pull-thru reasonably level and was just the right length for our truck and camper. There are a few bathhouses located throughout the campground. The only negative thing I can say about the campground is that the showers were paid (a quarter for 3-5 minutes), but we didn't use the showers so that wasn't a big deal to us. The laundry room had an app that you could use so you didn't have to have quarters - we loved that! Wifi signal was hit or miss. Verizon signal was decent. Everything was well taken care of and there were plenty of employees at work throughout the day. Everyone was friendly. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Indigo Bluffs RV Park & Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Indiana Dunes State Park, Chesterton, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice state park campground with electric hookups only. There is an easy to access water fill station as you come in to the campground and a dump station as you leave. All the sites have a paved pad (though not necessarily level) with plenty of grass surrounding. There is clearly defined parking at each site as well. The campground itself is very clean and tidy. The bathrooms were OK, but we didn't use them much. They certainly were nothing to get excited about. Verizon cell signal was decent. I was able to get ABC clearly and a couple of other stations, though we really don't watch TV much. We camped at Indiana Dunes State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The state park is one of the best and easiest places to access the beach. The campground is walking distance to the State Park Nature Center and trails. Not a long drive to the National Park visitor center and there is a paved trail though it's probably a couple of miles. The town of Chesterton is not far at all, with plenty of dining and shopping options.

Bluegrass Campground, Swanton, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here while visiting the Toledo area because it was relatively inexpensive for a site with full hookups. I am pretty sure we were the only folks there who weren't long-term or permanent residents. Sites were very close together - some of that because most everyone has a porch, shed and/or just extra stuff. Roads were a bit muddy, but that is because it had been raining a lot. Sites toward the front are a bit nicer and better maintained than the back (I think front sites are for short term or seasonal visitors). In general, I do not have a problem with long-term or permanent residents, but a lot of the people here did not keep their sites tidy, which is frustrating. Verizon cell signal was great. Campground wifi was hit or miss. We camped at Bluegrass Campground in a Travel Trailer.

West Branch State Park, Ravenna, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great state park campground! We stayed here for 5 nights and would have loved to have stayed longer. There are a variety of site types available - we had electric, water, sewer. Finding sewer in a state park was a real treat! The bathrooms were very clean. We didn't use the showers, but they looked great. There were even a couple of washers and dryers in the bathhouse - another great surprise at a state park. Most sites were tucked into the trees offering quite a bit of privacy. Cell service (Verizon) was very weak, but was available. Our site (#118) was a great campsite. Neighbor on one side was somewhat close, but trees in between made it feel like we still had privacy. Not too close and not too far from the bathroom. Site was almost completely level. It was a bit of a drive to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, but worth the drive for what we got at the campground. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever in the area. We camped at West Branch State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA, Lebanon, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

About what you would expect from a KOA. Seemed to mostly be a weekend destination for locals. On Friday and Saturday night the park was crowded, but thankfully not too noisy, especially after dark. Sites were well-maintained and most seemed to offer plenty of room. Our site took a bit to get level, but overall was not a bad site. This is about halfway between Cincinnati and Dayton, so a good location if you want to visit both cities. Wifi was decent, especially when the park wasn't too crowded, but held up well even with a lot of people. We camped at Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Lincoln State Park, Lincoln City, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

There are a lot of great things about this campground, but also a lot of frustrations. Our site (#109) was not level at all. Actually, I think this was the most un-level site that we've ever stayed in. The water hookups are in very odd places, most of them not close to the electric plug-in. Based on where we had to park to get level, we struggled to reach the electric stand (had to pull our power cord just about to its full length) and we had to go to Walmart to buy a longer (50 foot) water hose. We would not have had these problems if we had been able to park farther back in the site (but then we wouldn't not have been able to get level). Now on to the good stuff... Once we were situated, we really enjoyed our stay! The sites are reasonably well spaced out and there is plenty of grass. Our site backed up to the woods and we enjoyed watching a family of groundhogs (mom with 3 babies) one afternoon. There are tons of walking trails in the state park and we were easily able to walk to the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial across the street. Note: check out/in time on Sunday is 5:00 (other days is 2:00). If you stay here, choose your site carefully. We camped at Lincoln State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nashville I-24 Campground, Smyrna, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here one night as we were passing through town. It was ok for an overnight, but I'm not sure that I'd want to stay more than a night or two. Our stay was fine - no problems and the employees and neighbors that we spoke to were pleasant - it just wasn't anything to get too excited about.
