Gilmore Car Museum, Hickory Corners, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This park is actually located on the grounds of the Gilmore Car Museum and its primary use is as an overnight parking area for those wanting to visit the museum. A museum visit can easily span 2 days, so it is nice to spend the night without having to leave the grounds.

The museum spans 75 acres and is the largest of its kind in the US.

There is adequate space for 6 RVs and electrical service is limited to 20 amp service. Other than that, it is essentially dry camping. No dump site on the grounds.

There is an original 1960s Diner on the grounds that serves good food from a limited menu. We camped at Gilmore Car Museum in a Motorhome.

Just the museum which has some of the finest antique automobiles in the world on display, along with buildings which faithfully reproduce automobile dealerships and service stations from the 40s and 50s.

Lehman's Lakeside RV Resort, Marengo, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Park is primarily seasonal campers. Transient sites are far from the showers/restrooms.

Cable hookup at our site did not work. When informed of the problem, manager's reply was "it should, its just a cable". Our companion travelers at another nearby site also could not get cable. Fortunately, there are a number of OTA channels available.

Laundry was adequate and reasonable.

WIFI seemed to work OK when used for email and short web surfing periods.

The park is nice looking, pricey, and certainly adequate as an overnight stay. We camped at Lehman's Lakeside RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Wayside Campground, Glen Margaret, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This park is mostly seasonal permanent sites. Transient sites have a good view of the nearby waterfront, however the view is across the main highway so traffic noise can be a factor.

WIFI was available, however it was only available at the office hotspot. OK for email and texting, but sitting outside limited our usage due to rain and mosquitoes.

Management ranged from friendly to indifferent with individual managers.

Washers and dryers are limited to a nearby Laundromat that is on the property, but open to the public and thus, not the cleanest.

If we were to visit the area again, we would likely try another campground in the area. We camped at Wayside Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Peggy's Cove is on everyone's list and certainly a place to visit. It is somewhat of a disappointment to see it so heavily commercialized now compared to our visit years ago. Parking is a circus.

Highly recommend a visit to the nearby towns of Mahone Bay and Lunenberg.

Summer Breeze Campground, Iron Mountain, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

A nice park outside Iron Mountain with very large sites and friendly management. This is our 3rd visit to this park and each visit has been a pleasant experience.

There is a nearby train track, however it is very lightly used and we only heard a train once during this 4-day visit.

Washers and dryers were present and reasonably priced. Our site was well shaded and thus not satellite friendly. We camped at Summer Breeze Campground in a Motorhome.

A visit to Piers Gorge in nearby Norway, MI is worthwhile. For hikers/bikers, the Fumee Lake Natural Area's 1800 acres is recommended.

River Place Campground & Dockage, Duluth, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park is off the beaten path and can be somewhat difficult to find. Our GPS was leading us to it until we discovered that a bridge was being worked on and would delay our travel over 2 hours. An alternate route required a much longer trip through road construction, but with little choice, given the time of day we chose the alternate route. As it turned out, this was fortuitous as we discovered that the bridge had insufficient clearance for our MH.

As an earlier review noted, only cash is accepted. Checks may be honored, however it would be best to clear this before arrival. The interior roads have some tight turns which may make it difficult for larger rigs to negotiate.

This is a mostly seasonal park with a few transient sites that is literally on the river's edge. The seasonal people were friendly and helpful and the units were well kept.

Most of the transient sites were 50 amp full hook up. Although there is no cable, ample OTA television channels were available and ATT cell service was good.

Our site was a back-in site that was just long enough for our 33 ft. MH. Our traveling companions were in the same size MH with a TOAD and were in a pull-through site that wasn't quite large enough to leave the TOAD connected. We camped at River Place Campground & Dockage in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The park is remote and there is nothing very close. We used it as a base to explore the Duluth-Superior area and the North Shore and for that purpose, it was fine. Without a car or truck, one would be confined to the RV.

Betty's Pie Restaurant along the north shore drive is recommended.

Mine Mill Local 598/Unifor Campground, Sudbury, Ontario

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Fortunately, we were only driving through and our stay was only overnight. Check in was easy and the clerk was friendly and helpful, although her directions to get to our assigned site were off target.

Earlier reviews are on target. Mostly seasonal campers with varying degrees of upkeep.

When entering the campground, you are presented with almost a common entrance with the next door campground. We didn't know which to take so we just turned right and that is how we ended up in this campground.

After talking to other campers, we apparently made the right choice as their experience was anything but good.

There is a resident flock of geese that leave droppings everywhere, which requires thorough cleaning of your shoes every time you venture out of the RV.

Water hook up was a test, as the hose had broken away from the wooden post that supported it.

If passing through this area again, we would not stay here again. We camped at Mine Mill Local 598/Unifor Campground in a Motorhome.

Camping Du Quai, Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice park with wide and long spaces.

Check in was quick and easy even though we did not have reservations. Our lack of French language was not important because the manager spoke very good English.

The park has a very concise set of rules that all residents seemed to follow closely. Thus, the park is very quiet and peaceful. The park setting adds to the tranquility with its location close to the shore.

If approaching this park from the south, the only way to reach the park is through the town, so be prepared for narrow streets and a somewhat steep descent through the town. Travelers approaching from the west do not have that problem.

That being said, the town is pretty and you have the feeling of driving through a town in France. Driving through it does test your ability to read a lot of signs. There is a pedestrian only section that is closed to vehicles for part of the day and you should watch out for these signs. We camped at Camping Du Quai in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We were here only for an overnight stop and did not shop locally. Our impression was that our lack of French language ability would have prevented us doing this so we did not plan to stay in Quebec longer. With no highway signs in English, driving an RV through this province is an adventure.

River RV Campground, Murray River, Prince Edward Island

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We parked in site 16, which allowed us to park facing the river with a great view. Our neighbor in site 15 was hooked up to our power pedestal because his didn't have power. Thankfully, I had a 30 amp 25 ft. extension cord and was able to hook up to site 17's pedestal. This meant that site 17 couldn't be used by anyone else. Several attempts to locate the owner were unsuccessful that evening. Voltage was stable and adequate.

Site was fairly level and it was easy to level the coach.

Even with the power hook up problem, we would stay here again. Price and a great view more than atone for a minor hook up problem. We camped at River RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Try the Station Cafe in Montague, about 10 miles away. Nice harbor front outdoor seating and reasonably priced food. Four different menu items were ordered and all four were pleased with their meal.

There is only one ferry operating between Caribou and PEI so getting there is a lengthy process. We were lucky, as not all RVs were taken on our ferry and that meant another 4 to 5 hour wait for the next ferry.

Adventures East Campground & Cottages, Baddeck, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Staff was friendly and helpful and were present until late in the evening.

We stayed in a full hook up site and hookups were well placed and easy to access. Sites were not level and as some have noted, leveling a motor home was not simple, even with automatic levelers.

Electric power was about 105 V AC measured in the coach and required judicious use of appliances to avoid damage to appliances. We camped at Adventures East Campground & Cottages in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We ate at the Red Barn, a nearby restaurant. We ordered four different menu items and all were good and service was excellent. Prices were reasonable and we would recommend it.

The Cabot Trail is the one attraction that most come here for and it lives up to its reputation. The government does tax your trip though by requiring you to purchase a one day minimum pass to enter the park which the Cabot Trail passes through.

Because this Famcamp is located immediately next to an airfield, noise level is high during daylight hours. After sunset, the aircraft noise is normally not present.

Washer/dryers are available at $1/load. One dryer was out of service during our stay here. Power was stable during our stay. Pedestals are new and easy to hook up to.

Cinderella Motel & Campsite, Grand Island, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Park is co-located with a motel. Price is average of three nights with PA discount.

All sites are back-in, however there is adequate parking nearby for toads. The grass needed mowing around the RV sites while we were there. Some sites have cable TV hookups, while others do not. Ours did. Not a major downside, as over-the-air TV has 25 plus channels available.

Considering the going rates for parks in the area, this park is a very good value. Nothing fancy, but one doesn't normally visit Niagara Falls to stay in the park all day. We camped at Cinderella Motel & Campsite in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Motel office has multiple brochures available and information on tours on both the American side and the Canadian side. The Greyline bus will pick you up at the park. We took the evening tour which is different from the daytime Canadian tour in that it doesn't include a boat tour. It doesn't indicate that the boat tour isn't included, even though most of the tour is during daylight hours. Even so, it was a good tour and is highly recommended with the above caveat.

MillBrook Resort (formerly Wagon Trails Resort), Jefferson, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects Coast to Coast plus friend rate. Check-in was delayed because electric gate was down and no one was in the guard house. Another camper behind me came up to tell me that I had to press a button to get an answer. Once in, the check-in at the office was easy.

We were directed to the camping area that is advertised as pull-through. It is pull-through only if there is not another camper on the other end of your site. It is "first come, first serve" and many campers had taken too much space, so that limited the options on which sites were actually usable. Available sites were back-in, so unhooking the toad was mandatory.

Our neighbors at the site informed us that another motor home had pulled into the site and left after a short time. We soon learned why. Hooking up to the water was an ordeal because the wooden support for the hose bibs had rotted off at ground level so that left the outlet hose as the only support for four outlets. The 30 amp service was not usable. Measured voltage was only 103 volts at the pedestal. Attempting to change the refrigerator from gas to electric reduced the voltage in the motorhome to 85 volts. Clearly, the attempted use for the AC unit would probably damage the unit.

Complaints to management resulted in them reassigning us to a different section of the campground, with the caveat being that they couldn't promise anything. We inspected the newly assigned sites and they were normal household 20 amp receptacles. Before moving the unit, I measured the voltage which was only 104 Volts.

It was clear that staying at this campground was not a viable option, given the temperature and the need to use our normal appliances without risking damage to them.

This campground was well kept for the permanent residents. The section for others was anything but that. The grass needed mowing and the water and electric service was abysmal.

We left and will never visit this campground again. We camped at MillBrook Resort (formerly Wagon Trails Resort) in a Motorhome.

Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Goshen, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This stay was for a manufacturers rally of approximately 800 RVs, and many sites were very close together and many of my observations would probably not apply to the regular park sites. Pricing would apply however.

From a distance, the normal RV sites appeared to be regular size and with FHUs.

Park is centrally located in Amish country with easy access to many attractions.

Price was for water and electric for a four-night stay prior to a manufacturer's rally.

Full Hookup would have added $7.50 per night extra to the price. We camped at Elkhart County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.
