Echo Valley Provincial Park, Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is good for an overnight stop and during the week not very active once school started. Not much else around unless you drive to town which was a very nice ride along the lake to all the stores you would need. The visitor/administration center was open but it appeared we "interrupted" the employee when asking for information. We were in a newer FHU site that was nicely wooded, private, but would have been muddy if it rained. Loop was pretty deserted. Due to its proximity to the lakes (you had to drive there), it is more of a summer vacation spot for locals. We camped at Echo Valley Provincial Park in a Motorhome.

Dinosaur Provincial Park, Brooks, Alberta

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Amazing, spectacular, picturesque, breathtaking scenery. One of the most interesting campground stays on our journey. This is must stop for anyone interested in the Cretaceous Dinosaur period. Campground site was spacious, level, partly shady, gravel, with 30 amp power, picnic table, firepit. Water, Dump Station available. We had an unrestricted view of the badlands, other campsites back right up to the rocks. Campstore had adequate cafe and supplies. Lots of happy kids and adults around busily climbing all over the badland rocks finding protected fossils and dinosaur bones. On site museum offers various tours in the back country with the Sunset Tour/Photography Tour being one of the most enjoyable for us. Spent 3 nights here but would easily stay 5 or more next time. The hiking and access to this amazing UNESCO site is beyond your wildest dreams! We camped at Dinosaur Provincial Park in a Motorhome.

Topsail Hill State Preserve, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

One of the most beautiful Florida State Parks. Seems like campers dissatisfaction with this park depends upon what type of camper you have and what loop you are in - so, choose wisely. State Parks are not for everyone. Since this park was previously a private RV Park, it's the first STATE PARK I've stayed in that had concrete pads, lighting and maintained privacy vegetation. It also has a swimming pool in addition to the beach with talcum powder type sand that doesn't burn your feet. I've also never seen a state park that the sites are cleaned down like Disney World/Fort Wilderness when a camper vacates it. Our site was FHU, 30 amp service, shaded, and our own little corner of the world. There is a campstore with bikes, kayaks for rent and a tram to take you to the beach. Suggest bringing a bike to get there a lot faster. Plus the bike ride is really nice. There are many stores and restaurants in the area. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park up the hill above Huntsville, Alabama! Site was spacious, wooded, private, with 30 amp and water. Dump station was available. Nice hiking and bike trails and could be considered an urban park based upon the number of locals that were there riding the trails. Temperatures are easily 10 degrees cooler than in the city. Be sure to check out the Japanese Garden right behind the camp store. Views from the ridge sites was spectacular. Groceries and restaurants are an easy drive down the hill to Pratt Avenue. Great place to stay for a few days when visiting the Space Center in town. DO NOT FOLLOW GPS to get there. Take Governor Boulevard off Interstate 565 to Nolen Street. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Motorhome.

Montgomery South RV Park, Hope Hull, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent overnight stop right off I65. Very attractive and clean campground run by a very charming, welcoming family. 30 amp service, water, sewer and Internet worked well but over the air TV channels did not work for us. Convenient truck stops are right off the interstate. Animal Safari park is right down the road but we didn't take advantage of it. Would definitely stop here overnight again - convenient and comfortable. We camped at Montgomery South RV Park in a Motorhome.

Musicland Kampground, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Location, location, location. This campground is in the middle of it all. Clean, attractive, tiered, wooded campground that is a joy to stay at. Staff is most accommodating, guide you to your site, and assist you in parking which you will need because this campground is on a hill with tiered sites. Our FHU site with cable was quite attractive and services worked well except for cable which they were trying to fix. Their concierge makes excellent recommendations for shows and purchase tickets for you. We'll be back! We camped at Musicland Kampground in a Motorhome.

Heed the advice of your guide when parking - they know the roads and sites! Things to do: Branson Landing - Paula Deen's Restaurant - excellent! Florentina's Italian - overhyped by locals - pass! Table Rock Dam & Fish Hatchery - worth the drive Shows - read the reviews on line and follow your intuition. So much to see, so much to do!

Minneapolis Southwest KOA, Jordan, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

First things first. This campground is located in Jordan, MN. Calling it Minneapolis Southwest KOA is misleading. It is not an easy off from the North on 35 West. Driving through the construction in Minneapolis to get to this campground was nerve wracking! It is located in an industrial area and our site, 20B, backed up to a Concrete Plant with trucks coming in and out all day long. Very noisy during the day. It also contained a power pole and numerous junction boxes for the sites - not very desirable. Plus a small playground right outside our door -yikes! Site 20B is a horrible site. Good Points: Nice camp store and staff, unique indoor pool with outdoor patio, and a clean laundry area. 30 amp power and internet worked just fine. Appeared to have seasonal campers in other area of park. They put overnighters near the road and concrete plant. Would look elsewhere next time for a more convenient, quieter overnight stay. We camped at Minneapolis Southwest KOA in a Motorhome.

Birch Grove Resort, Kabetogama, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This part of the country is filled with Voyageurs National Park rustic fishing camps and this campground fits that description. They have mostly quaint cabins with a few RV sites available. The owner and her handyman were a joy to meet, were most welcoming and couldn't have been more accommodating. The campground is located in a protected harbor which we really appreciated during a storm one night. Campsite was rustic, but quite doable for a Class B Camper Van. Site was FHU on grass/dirt, with solid 30 amp service, water was via a water hose from a nearby cabin. Basically a cabin oriented fish camp with a few RV sites. Best for small Class B Camper Vans, small Class C's, although there was one occupied Class A site. Would definitely return when in the area. We camped at Birch Grove Resort in a Motorhome.

Things to do: Be sure to book a boat cruise to the park to see all the area has to offer. The Rocky Ledge Restaurant offered a great menu that was quite tasty and filling. Pine Ridge Gift Shop had some very unique items and was a great place to stop for a quick cup of coffee.

Jay Cooke State Park, Carlton, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Just a quick overnight stop and wished we had stayed longer. We had a 30 amp electric site, water and dump available. Site was wooded, private and pleasant. The St. Louis River is quite picturesque and a great place to hang out for a while. There are many hiking, biking trails and regretted just an overnight stay. The campground needs some upgrading but its in process and will get there. We camped at Jay Cooke State Park in a Motorhome.

FJ McLain State Park, Hancock, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This park is really out of the way but well worth the drive. It's right on Lake Superior and the view was gorgeous! We were in the new wooded loop, site 117, and had no issues with 30 amp electric or the poles location. Most sites are not level which is surprising for a new loop. Site was fairly private, large but noted those on the lakeside are right on top of each other. Great rock hounding. Don't miss the sunsets! We camped at FJ McLain State Park in a Motorhome.

Starved Rock State Park, Utica, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Unfortunately this is a beautiful park that is too well loved, used and abused. It's a free park and the abuse shows everywhere. Campground sites varied from private, large, wooded to totally out in the open. Sites are electric only. There is also some road noise. The hiking in the canyons is amazing but when you get there the rocks are covered with graffiti, initials carved in rocks and trash everywhere. There needs to be more park rangers monitoring the activity and hiking trails plus considerably more maintenance people. Very disappointing for such a beautiful place to get so destroyed. The only shining light was the lounge at the hotel. The drinks and food were excellent and really welcomed after climbing around the canyons. Someone in Illinois please wake up and save this park before you lose it all! We camped at Starved Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

Nearby town was ridiculously expensive! Far and above anything we have come across in any of our travels. Two Girls and a Cupcake shop has the highest priced cupcakes in the country although unique! Nonie's Bakery and Cafe was excellent, accommodating and a very pleasant place to spend some time.

Wasagaming Campground (Parks Canada), Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Nice wooded very large National campground with lots of activities to take advantage of. Weekends are busy with locals and tourists enjoying the town of Wasagaming. The Visitor Center located right in town is staffed by very knowledgeable local and friendly staff that gladly will answer any questions you may have. The lake is beautiful, and the town is just filled with tourist type shops/restaurants with anything you desire. Our campsite was spacious, wooded, private but not necessarily level which seems to be an issue throughout the park. We had electric and water with a dump station available. Choose your campsite wisely due to leveling issues. Campfire talks were educational, enjoyable, interactive, and they even offered free hot chocolate. Would happily stay at this park again and again! Kilton Hill Campground, Swift Current, Saskatchewan

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The best and only new campground in Swift Current with a breathtaking view of the area and very pleasant owner. Not many choices in this town. It is up a hill and surrounded by wheat fields. This attractive campground is conveniently located off the highway, 1 mile up a gravel road. It's 7 minutes to downtown for supplies. It is a small campground with 22 sites, full hook up and tent sites with wifi. They have one restroom and one shower, both very clean, but better for those units that are self contained. There is a small playground for kids. It's a quiet campground except for the seasonal/working campers that leave early in the morning (4:30 am) in their diesel trucks waking everyone up. This is a very well maintained campground, gets VERY windy at times due to location, but they have paid a lot of attention to making/keeping it attractive. We had a spectacular view of the area in Site 1, but the restroom and shower usage was an issue causing a less than excellent rating. Avoid Site 1 if you want a good nights sleep. Go further up the hill toward the back of the campground. Sites up the hill would be much more desirable. Would stay here again for the view! We camped at Kilton Hill Campground in a Motorhome.

Crooked Creek Campground (Private), Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Small, private, more rustic campground that is 10 minutes from the Waterton Townsite. Very friendly, helpful owner. Site was electric and water but there were definitely issues with the voltage. On hot days it would drop to 102-103 and our EMS would shut everything down. We made do but they need to address the problem. As soon as someone pulls in around you with bigger AC units and no EMS your done for the day. It's a quiet campground except for the truck noise from the highway during the day. Nice rural location but if you want to be closer to the action I would consider staying at the Waterton Townsite location in the NEW section that is FHU. Would have rated higher but voltage is a real issue. We camped at Crooked Creek Campground (Private) in a Motorhome.

St. Mary / East Glacier KOA, St Mary, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

One the most expensive KOA's in the country at $80 night and we had to move! But you can't beat the location - 2 miles to Glacier National Park and an easy drive up to Logan's Pass. Plus you had access to the Campfire Talks in the park every evening which were very educational and entertaining. Sites were electric & water, not level, with difficult to access dump. RV's are crammed in every available space, no privacy and sites not well maintained. No over the air TV and good wifi but ask for the password. Campstore is well stocked and sells fresh baked goods, ice cream, and has pizza delivery. Extra feature - they have very reasonable rental cars on site for those that don't have a toad.
