San Isabel National Forest - Alvarado Campground USFS, Westcliffe, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second year back at Alvarado. We stayed here in a travel trailer. This is a beautiful campground with lot of trees and nice views of the mountains. We were a little disappointed this year because the maintenance of the campground seems to have fallen off. Also, there was no water this year as there is some problem with the systems. We camped at San Isabel National Forest - Alvarado Campground USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Hecla Junction Campground, Salida, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is located at the end of a well maintained county gravel road putting it 2 1/2 miles off the main highway and very secluded. The campground is on the shores of the Arkansas River. The campground and the scenery are very beautiful with mountain and river views from the campground. This is dry camping, but has two vault toilets. Adjacent to and below the campground are ramps for river access. Rafting and fishing/fly fishing are the main activities. Buena Vista and Salida are both within easy driving distance. We camped at Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, Hecla Junction Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Big Pine Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $38.00

The facility was perfect for us to take the grandkids to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Wind Cave NP and fishing at Custer State Park. The facility was very clean, quiet and the staff very friendly. We would definitely recommend it and we would go back there. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This state camp site sits on the Eastern shoulder of Cheyenne Mountain and has beautiful views over Colorado Springs and east to the plains. There are numerous hiking/biking trails here which is the main activity. The campground is very close to Colorado Springs and Fountain (and their amenities). Our site was full service and had a level concrete pad for parking the trailer. The campground is very well maintained. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

San Isabel National Forest - Alvarado Campground USFS, Westcliffe, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

The scenery was beautiful looking out over the valley below and the Sangre de Cristo mountains above. RV spots were nicely spaced out with plenty of trees for shade and some sun. The RV spots were nicely maintained, basically level and graveled. Nice picnic table, fire pit and tent areas. Restrooms were very clean. Hosts were friendly and helpful. We camped at San Isabel National Forest - Alvarado Campground USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Have pizza at Antonio's Real New York Pizza. It is great. The place is small so get there early to get a table (or carry out). If you eat there, you get to watch them toss the pizza dough in the air (kids loved it)!
