Red Trail Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed three nights at Red Trail when we had to change our plans and could not rebook into the closer and much nicer park in town. The staff was unwelcoming, unfriendly and at times down right rude. The park has been in the same family for many decades and is shows - not in a way to be proud of either. Sites are packed in to maximize profits, maintenance is lacking, you are handed written rule about you site needing to be clean at all times, dogs needing to be leash at all times, etc. For family, staff, regulars these rules are NOT ENFORCED. Sites closest to the office look like the Clampets lived there. Every day dogs charged our dogs as we walked on leash...theirs not on leads or leashes. The RV Park served a purpose - we were close to the entrance of Theodore Roosevelt Nation Park - that was our objective to be in the National Park - so Red Trail helped us achieve that at least. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Trafton Park, Malta, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

A small county park. Served a purpose for a quick nights rest as we traveled. No electric (boondocking) but there are plenty of water faucets to get fresh water for your tank. Baseball Park brought an evening crowd. Past comments talk about trains. Heard one train in early evening. We camped at Trafton Park in a Fifth Wheel.

West Glacier RV Park and Cabins, West Glacier, Montana

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $85.00
Overall Rating:

Brand New Park. We stayed just after opening on July of 2019. Spacious open park close to the entrance of West Glacier National Park and West Glacier Village. While more costly than other area parks, we will definitely return. We camped at West Glacier RV Park and Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Ahquabi State Park, Indianola, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

A small state park on Lake Ahquabi. Camping site are packed in. Since many site are "designated walk-in" it was difficult to pull a 40' Fifth Wheel through the park looking for a site. We camped at Lake Ahquabi State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Chain-O-Lakes State Park, Spring Grove, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Love the place, hate their parking policy.

Other than the parking issues, this is a lovely campground set off the beaten path. A great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We camped at Chain-O-Lakes State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

They are the only State Park in Illinois that enforces a "car" policy. For those who do not know, the ILDNR discriminates against Class A & C where you are only allowed one vehicle per pad because the count your "hooked up" RV as a mobile vehicle. This is an outdated policy that needs to be addressed. Some TTs today are larger than some Cs & As? This is a local park for us and when staying there I commute to work.
