Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp), West Point U.S. Military Academy, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This place earns a 5 star for location; however, the sites were designed for 20' travel trailers. That being said, the sites are not well organized or standardized and definitely not very level. You never know which side the power pedestal and water hookup will be located. When it rains, puddles are everywhere because of the lack of even gravel. The laundry room and showers were dirty and didn't appear to be truly cleaned for months. And since there is no sewer hookup at the sites, you are forced to use the facilities. No WiFi and cell coverage is spotty, which is common for the area. If I were the Commander of USAG West Pont and the USMA, I would almost be embarrassed that this place is associated with the school that produces some of the finest engineers in the world. We camped at Round Pond Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Southwoods RV Resort, Byron, New York

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The owners are very friendly and doing many things to improve the park including paving the roads. Everyone we met here especially the staff were very friendly as well. The sites are spacious but with the gravel they are not perfectly level. It took me a few times adjusting to find a more level spot. Being between the Erie and Ontario lake, there is quiet a bit of wind here so be prepared for that depending on the time of year. You are also about 7-10 miles away from stores and a little over an hour from Niagara Falls. Cell service worked with T-Mobile worked very well here so I imagine the other two will work just fine too. We really enjoyed it here and will definitely return when we are in the area. We camped at Southwoods RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Emerald Desert RV Resort, Palm Desert, California

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

I will never stay here again. First, when I arrived, I stood behind someone else trying to get a better site and the 1 lady at the desk never acknowledged me. I stood there for 15 minutes until someone else finally walked in. Next, we get to our site and it is not level. Then I start setting up and the sprinklers come on making it impossible to setup without getting drenched. Then to top it off, I see ant piles all around my site plus no bench. Not impressed especially for the price. We camped at Emerald Desert RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Mountain Valley RV Resort, Heber City, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is probably one of thee nicest resorts you will ever visit. It is in a great area and setup very well including two areas for families and adults only. Each area has their own amenities including pools, hot tubs, pickle ball courts, and a few extras. There are two very large dog parks with actual grass for the dogs to enjoy. It is pretty close to everything in the area and the staff is amazing. I hope our travels bring us back through here again soon just so I can stay here a little longer. We camped at Mountain Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Big Texan RV Ranch (formerly Amarillo Ranch RV Park), Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

While this park was okay, it was not great. The sites are gravel and mostly even. Our site was slightly slanted so we had to move over a little to be more level. The mosquitoes were out of control so wear lots of DEET. There is not a big area to walk your dog and of course you have to share the limited space with all the mosquitoes. The indoor pool and hot tub are good. It is pretty easy access to the highway and next door to an outdoor event center that can get pretty loud at night on the weekends. Overall, it was okay but I will look elsewhere when passing through in the future. We camped at Big Texan RV Ranch (formerly Amarillo Ranch RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Sundance RV Park, Cortez, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Great park right in the middle of town next to everything. The sites are gravel but they are level. Plenty of grass in the front for the dog and the park is right across the street if you need more room. Camp hosts are extremely friendly and always willing to help. We camped at Sundance RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you pull into a site facing SE, be aware that there is about a 1-1.5 degree slant so the front tires of your motor home may raise up into the air. I recommend doubling checking levelness before committing to a site.

Lizzie and Charlie's RV/ATV Park, Marysvale, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Basically just a big gravel pit and they put metal fence posts to separate the sites. If this place was full and you were trying to back in to your site, you would have a difficult time because there is not a lot of space between the rows. The other big down side is that while dogs are allowed, there really isn't any on site location to take them, aka grass. There is however a city park two blocks away. Some sites do have grass but it appears that it is dedicated to those specific sites. This place is okay if you want to go ride ATVs plus it is close to the gas station/grocery store. We camped at Lizzie and Charlie's RV/ATV Park in a Motorhome.

Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Travis AFB, California

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The site is gravel and level. I did not have reservations as they do not make reservations if you are going to arrive within 30 days; however, they do have several sites that are first come first serve. When I arrived the office was closed but there were clear instructions on which sites were available for my size rig, length of stay, and with or without pets. I don't think it could be any more clear. After I got settled in my site, the office opened and I finished the registration process. The gentlemen in the office was friendly and squared me away quickly even though he continued to receive a million other calls. Kudos to him for his multitasking abilities. The BX and Commissary are within walking distance and there is a big field in the back to walk your dog. Overall, I have no complaints especially for the price. Thank you Travis AFB Command and MWR for taking care of us. Now... if we can only get everyone (mostly a small percentage) to recognize theses awesome benefits and not take advantage and ensure we clean up after ourselves and our pets. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Eagle Hammock RV Park (Military FamCamp), Kings Bay, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

The site is gravel and level and fairly spacious. The staff is very friendly. The park is next to a lake you can fish in with a Georgia license; however, no swimming because of alligators. The bugs were pretty crazy when I was there and if you are walking your dogs check them for ticks as they were pretty bad during our visit. The park itself is pretty far away from anything including shopping; however, if you are looking for peace and quiet this is your place except for listening to cars drive on the gravel every hour even throughout the night. Overall, for the price, you will not find anything as nice as this in the area plus it is very secure and everyone I met was extremely friendly just not our scene as we are more active. We camped at Eagle Hammock RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Miami Everglades RV Resort, Miami, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

For the price, I expected much more. The sites are unpaved, uneven, and not very spacious. We were nestled tightly between two large trees and I couldn't even put out my awning. We were next two a trailer that appeared to be there for years and not very well maintained to include the grounds. This place is pretty far away from anything outside of the park including bike riding, beaches, etc. We camped at Miami Everglades RV Resort in a Motorhome.

West Fort Hood Travel Camp (Military FamCamp), Fort Hood Army Post, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a few months while I was preparing to retire. The sites are concrete and level and plenty of room for big rigs. The staff is friendly and do their best to always help. Decent grass area for pets, although we still need to train those few owners to pick up after their pets.

There was a previous review about some people being here way too long and I agree with that. There is a 90 day waiver that doesn't seem to be enforced, and there are some trailers that have collected what I would call "junk" around them making the area appear as "trailer trash."

The location is easily accessible from 190 although you have to go through one side security gate only to turn around and come back through another. I would give this location a 10 if it were in a better location such as near a lake or beach. We camped at West Fort Hood Travel Camp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Bastrop / SE Austin / Colorado River KOA, Bastrop, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Very friendly staff, unfortunately the park is older. The sites are not level, there are thorns in the grass, and of course is next to a busy highway and train tracks. Definitely not worth the price and was disappointing as I have heard so many great things about KOAs. Also the trees need some trimming because they scrape up your rig, pulling into site. We camped at Bastrop / SE Austin / Colorado River KOA in a Motorhome.
