Fort Chiswell RV Park, Max Meadows, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Clean, grassy (all cut too), quiet. Clean gravel camp spot, pull through with full hook-up, 50 amp, picnic table, limited but useable WiFi, cable hook-up (did not use). The only thing missing is fire ring/pit. Campground has many long-term campers but not an eye sore like so many parks. Swimming pool (did not use). Good shade at the campsite, however, shade is provided by Gumball trees and walking around in the plush grass is not recommended for barefoot campers based on the number of gumballs on the ground. Campground was probably 90% full and is located less than a mile from the Interstate however, it was very quiet. We will return. We camped at Fort Chiswell RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Kings Creek RV Campground (Military FamCamp), Cheatham Annex Naval Station, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Back in, (SPOT 10) uneven concrete pad, pedestal full hook-up, 50-amp, fire ring, cable TV, spotty WiFi, picnic table, good amount of space, campground was not full, very nice. Near the York River with easy access to Williamsburg and the Colonial Parkway. Very Quiet. This is my second time camping here and I will return. The 4 star rating for my site (10) is because the concrete pad was not level and that was the problem the first time I stayed here in 2018. Otherwise, great campground. We camped at Kings Creek RV Campground (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Wilmington KOA, Wilmington, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Averaged $55 per night: weekday, weekend and Thanksgiving rates, very confusing. Excellent staff, very helpful. Sites are close together. A LOT of traffic outside of campground on Rte. 17. Neighbors next door had four very loud barking dogs that barked at everything that went by there camper, all day long, no barking dog policy in campground. Overall the campground is one of the nicest, cleanest KOAs I have stayed in. Staff is awesome and always available. Best Camp Store I have ever seen, KOA or elsewhere. Will be back next year, hopefully without the barking dogs. Also rented a Deluxe cabin for the kids, very nice, good space for two, gets a little crowded with three, fully furnished, great little cabin put overpriced. Could have got a hotel room for much less. We camped at Wilmington KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground, Clifton Forge, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Too many year long residents and most of the trailers were vacant. Staff is awesome, which is why this place receives excellent reviews for services and staff. Common area unfortunately has many piles of dog droppings. Very small campground, spaces are a little tight. Could be an awesome park if they clean it up and remove all the old trailers and year long residents. Great cable, hot and cold WiFi, close to the interstate and right outside the entrance to Douthat State park. We camped at The Buckhorne Country Store and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Covington is just up the road and much larger than Clifton Forge. Douthat State Park very close and worth visiting.

Heavenly Acres Campground, Stanardsville, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Site #23, back of the area, used to be a permanent camper site, uncut weeds and grass, needs leveling and general cleaning. Our site had a 4' X 8' plywood board with a shoe brush nailed to it. Both the picnic table and fire ring were in the adjoining sites area. Unable to move the fire ring. Quiet at night. The owners are very nice and very accommodating but have let the place get run down. In serious need of general cleanup/fix up. During the summer the pool is definitely the draw. We camped at Heavenly Acres Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pelican Point RV Park, Cherry Point MCAS, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nicest RV park I have camped at. Spacious flat concrete pads for the trailer, easy in and out. Immaculate restrooms and laundry area. Quiet park, little to no noise from park patrons. Great having a utility pedestal where everything was in one spot and it all worked. Not camping to watch TV but must have had 100+ channels on cable, great Wi-Fi too. No shade for those in the middle of the park and no open fires allowed-the only two minuses for the park. We will be back! We camped at Pelican Point RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Anna State Park, Spotsylvania, Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice large park, sits on north side of Lake Anna. Good walking trails, spacious lots, gravel and dirt and mostly level. Should have WiFi, no reason to not provide it. Pull through spots are spacious, quite. Great place to open the trailer for the season, we will be back. We camped at Lake Anna State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Solomons Island Navy Recreation Area (Military FamCamp), Solomons, Maryland

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Large and crowded. Very spacious area for RV's however, many grouped tightly together. RV sights need personal attention. Each RV site needs to be inspected, cleaned and repaired. Opened electric power box to a hornets nest, literally, with many hornets not happy. Unruly and very rude fellow campers being obnoxiously loud until 2:00 a.m. Get phone number for security at check in to quell obnoxious fellow inconsiderate campers. WiFi signal only available at bath house and very weak there. Overpriced for a military RV campground. Not worth $41.00 per night. This campground has more potential than any site in VA/MD, only needs the right management to fix it. We camped at Solomons Island Navy Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Creekside Campground, Edinburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Quaint, very small campground, very few spaces, RV's are very close to each other, all but one are back-in. Do not GPS your way to the campground, there is only one large RV navigable way in and out, ask the owners the best route to get into the campground. The main attraction here is Stony Creek. Cable and Wi-Fi are excellent. We camped at Creekside Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
