Durango RV Resort, Red Bluff, California

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park multiple times. Sometimes we stay for several days, sometimes like this visit it is just a one night stop between Grants Pass and Sacramento. You are escorted to your site after checking in at the office. All personnel have always been friendly and happy to help with questions. Nice long sites which don't require us to unhook. Green grass, paved roads and a nice pond / fountain area crest a nice relaxing environment. We camped at Durango RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Luigi's delivers pizza to the park or you can walk over less than .5 miles. Pie is available at Shari's which is also within walking distance. The Sugar Shack down town provides a nice breakfast or lunch.

Las Vegas RV Resort , Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Very quick and easy check in process. Escorted to the site and hookups quickly completed. The site was convenient for our in and out activities. The gravel between the sites in our section was clean and tidy. There was easy access to a walking trail within the park. Some sections in the park had slots that were only asphalt from end to end. There were scattered rigs that were long term residents, and the slots were nicely maintained and homey. Several covered dog stations, covered with seats and a fenced lot too. Shower stalls were small and the dressing area narrow. WiFi was adequate, good line of sight for satellite, limited cable stations. Water spigot was a little too close and a little tall, our basement door had trouble clearing it. Plenty of room for our slides. $10.00 refundable deposit required for bathroom/shower/pool key. We camped at Las Vegas RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Shady Lane RV Camp, Barstow, California

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

All of my interactions with the office folks were positive. We were guided to our slot and parked in a good position. This is a small park with only a few slots open to transient/daily parking. We were here for two nights and the park was full each night. I did make reservations a few weeks in advance. There is no grass to speak of, and the trees have been trimmed severely to accommodate larger rigs with slide-outs. There is an extra charge for 50amp, which we needed because of temps in the 90s. This $4/night charge is reflected in the price above. The park is quiet, I didn't hear trains, planes or automobiles. The facilities are in keeping with the age of the park, which opened in 1977. The bathrooms were clean and smelled fresh. Laundry facilities were available, but I didn't check on prices. WiFi was decent, but I didn't try streaming. There is a good layer of gravel in the general driving lanes. It was dry during our visit so I can't speak to the possible muddy issues during rainy season. For our site the supplied table and benches were not used, so I didn't list them as a feature. There was really no place for them, and they were dirty from bird droppings. There is a concrete space, but with our slides out, it was more of a walkway than a patio. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Downtown Barstow (old town and new) were conveniently located about a mile away. Explore the Railroad Museum and Harvey House We did a morning trip to Calico Ghost Town. This is a regional park, but made into tourist destination, lots of tour bus groups. Check out www.calicotown.com for more info.

Eagle's Nest RV Park, Tionesta, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We were greeted by lots of little butterflies on the gravel drive. I haven't seen these types of gatherings before. After exiting highway 139 on Cty Rd 97, the road surface is great. Continue on to the signs to Eagle's Nest on the left. Drive pass the Hawk's Nest RV Park (appears to have dirt lots from the road) and turn left. Shortly after the road becomes unpaved, you will enter Eagle's Nest. You may be met at the gate by the owner on a golf cart, if not, pick your spot and park and you will be contacted at your site. The fee does not include electricity, the meter is read and you pay when you leave and the electric use calculated. AT&T had no service, the Verizon MiFi had three bars and the camp provided Wifi was pretty good. We didn't bother with Dish or OTA TV. The grass was nicely maintained and we enjoyed sitting outside for dinner. Flies were mentioned in an older review, but were not an issue this time of year. We never found any plumbed restroom or shower, although there was an porta-potty which we didn't use. We just stayed one night so we didn't take in any of the area attractions this time. We camped at Eagle's Nest RV Park in a Motorhome.

Folsom Lake SRA - Beals Point Campground, Folsom, California

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

GPS might not be accurate. Beals Point is on the east side of Auburn-Folsom Rd between Eureka Road and Greenback Ln. Google to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, Beals Point, Granite Bay, CA 95746. This point is actually the parking lot by the lake. The RV sites are immediately to the left after passing the entrance kiosk. It is EASY to miss the entrance from Auburn-Folsom RD because of the lack of signage before the stop light at the entrance. There are the standard wooden picnic table which was in fair condition and a fire pit with grill. Camp hosts were nice and delivered firewood to our site. You can take a nice hike to the lake shore or drive/bike the half mile. The distance between the parking area and water is dictated by how full the lake is. At this time they were balancing the potential inflow from the massive snow pack so the shore line was a little low. Life vests were available to use if you had kids near the water. Shower design left much to be desired, water sprayed and pooled in the dressing area. Restrooms were clean, but no mirrors anywhere. No soap in the restroom. You should know that in the California valley the grasses dry up early so there is no green ground cover without active watering, which is NOT done in the camping areas so by the end of the season the sites can be dusty. In general the roads are fine, but entering the park, the trees on the right should be trimmed up a bit. See tips for activities. After all of that running around set up your chairs and just relax. There are no trains in the area, but we did hear coyotes. We camped at Folsom Lake SRA - Beals Point Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You are right on the American River bike trail, 10 minutes from lots of restaurants and Cookie Connection (get the Groupon) on Douglas Blvd. At Douglas and Sierra College Blvd we found many of our favorite eateries. Just minutes south of the park is Old Town Folsom, with shopping at antique and boutique stores. You are also close to light rail which can be used to get to downtown Sacramento.

Cal Expo RV Park, Sacramento, California

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second stay at this centrally located Sacramento area park. The entrance, off of Ethan, is a bit hard to find the first time, get directions when making reservations (which are not always required). The park is close enough to the freeway for easy access to down town or the outlying areas, but far enough away that there is no traffic noise. There are two parking areas within the park - slightly sloping asphalt sites that face east and a relatively flat gravel area with most sites that face north to north east. Good WiFi. Most sites are pull thru. This park backs up to the American River Bike Trail so natural areas are close. Security and State Police drive thru the park frequently to ensure there are no issues. The locked (key required) combo shower/restrooms are clean and convenient. There is a fenced grass dog area. This park can be hot during the summer months with few slots that have any shade from the late afternoon sun. There are no tables or patios at the sites. There are a few month-long residents, but there is a 30 day / 60 day period stay limitation. Most of the residents we have seen during our two week stay have be in transit to locations in warmer areas.

For us this park is all about location (close to family, restaurants and Starbucks), solid power and good WiFi. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The large Arden Fair Mall is within a mile for shopping. There are numerous free standing restaurants in the area as well as small eateries within the mall. Try Smash Burger or Plutos inside the area near the theaters. FlapJacks (east on Arden) provides a nice breakfast option that can fill up fast on the weekends. Costco and REI are about 2 miles west on Exposition Blvd.

Turkey Creek RV Village - Escapees Rainbow Park, Hollister, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Plan you trip knowing that this nice little low lying riverside park can flood. There is no WiFi in the sites, Verizon had 2 bars on the MiFi, AT&T also had only two bars. There is no cable. We could only get one local station OTA. Trees and a high ridge to the south could impact satellite reception - but we don't carry a dish, so I don't know for certain. There are grassy spots between the spaces and the picnic tables are nice. The spaces are wide and we had no trouble with our 4 slides. Water pressure was low. This was our first experience with an Escapee park and except for the pricing it didn't feel particularly special. The park is clean and the office managers were very pleasant and explained the park options. We camped at Turkey Creek RV Village - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Most people will go for the newer stores in Branson's Landing. I would recommend heading up Main street instead. There you will find original stores such as Dave's 5 & 10 and the Quilt shop. Stop for a meal at Branson Cafe. We had a good breakfast there with prompt service and the coffee stayed topped off.

Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here with the iRV2 2016 Rally group. We arrived early and were accommodated nicely over the Labor Day weekend. The grounds are well maintained. Landscaping work was being done around the cottages and the play ground area. I am always amazed with driving / parking toads is allowed on the grass. This is much different from the western US campgrounds. The pads are gravel as are some of the streets. There are some trees in the eastern front portion of the park. There are a couple of others on the west side that can create issues with OTA access. The park is convenient to many shopping and eating opportunities. We camped at Elkhart Campground in a Motorhome.

Prairie Pines Campground, Rantoul, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night on a relocation trip. This is a nice distance to drive from Elkhart. Lots of grass and mature trees. Not near any freeways so it is quiet. During planting or harvesting season there could be more activity. As others mentioned we were guided across the expansive lawn area and around trees to create a pull thru slot. There is no WiFi, but we had three bars on the Verizon MiFi. We picked up several OTA TV stations. We didn't need a reservation on Saturday in Mid September. There were several other people parked here, but not crowded with decent space between slots. New Laundry equipment. We had a cement patio and picnic table. We camped at Prairie Pines Campground in a Motorhome.
