Down By The River Campground, Pineola, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Spent a three day weekend here. Beautiful park and plenty of space between sites. All sites have level concrete pads. Whole campground is level for that matter. That was a pleasant surprise for a campground in the mountains. All utilities worked with no issues. I read other reviews before visiting where people complained about the WiFi. We had no issues with the WiFi. Signal was very strong. Verizon signal was adequate but not great. Interior roads are somewhat narrow but not hard to navigate. One small incident occurred on our arrival. Apparently there was a miscommunication between my wife and the campground when she called to make the reservation. When I checked in on Friday the lady working said she had us down to have checked in the night before. Not sure how that miscommunication happened but I then asked her if she was able to shif the nights into what we had originally planned. She was very gracious and agreed to do so which I thought was very kind. The only reason I gave this campground a 9 was her disposition. While it was very nice of her to move our days and I certainly appreciated that, she always seemed to have a very sour disposition and look on her face. Almost seemed as if we were a bother to her or she was upset about moving our days around. We passed her a couple of times riding our bikes and walking in the campground and she didn't seem as if she even wanted to give us the time of day. Aside from that it's a great campground with very friendly full timers there. Will definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Down By The River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you go up the the gas station at the intersection of highways 181 and 221, be sure to monitor your fueling. The diesel pump auto shutoff doesn't work. Spilled some fuel on the side of my truck with the overflow. Told the person working inside but they didn't seem to care whether it worked or not. I recommended they put a sign out there to warn people if they weren't going to have it fixed. Based on their response I doubt anything will be done about it.

Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Love this campground! One of the nicest we've ever stayed in. Stayed three nights. Two nights at Passport America rate and one night at Good Sam rate. Booked this campground earlier in the month but had to cancel at the last minute due to maintenance required on my tow vehicle. They did not give my money back (didn't expect them to) but they did keep it as a deposit for when I wanted to return which was later the same month. You could hear traffic on the highway but it really wasn't all that distracting. Owners very nice. Sites are level, plenty of space between sites, electrics no issues, water pressure good, cable great, WiFi great, Verizon cell signal very good with 3 to 4 bars. Fishing was good too. Will definitely be back and looking forward to it! We camped at Mayberry Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain View Campground, Hiawassee, Georgia

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great campground! Stayed over the weekend for our anniversary. Campground owners very helpful on the phone booking the reservation and assisting with the best site for a 39' fifth wheel. Recommend you call to book the reservation as the online booking site has a surcharge above the nightly rate. Also recommend calling to assure discounted rate. We got the Passport America rate. Normal rate was $35 per night but we got two nights for $35 total. Our site was gravel and level and had plenty of space. Power was good, water pressure fair. Make sure you have a long sewer hose if your dump line is midway between the front and back of your rig. The sewer dump is located at the rear of the site as well as the power hook up, water and cable connector. Cable and WiFi excellent! Owner helped up get backed in on arrival. They had karaoke going in the music barn when we arrived. Sunday morning the owners provided everyone in the campground with breakfast that consisted of egg casserole, pancakes, fruit, and pastries. The only thing that needs fixing is the entrance to the campground is the entrance. The entrance is on an incline and consists of broken concrete slabs. Very bumpy even moving slowly. Despite that we will stay again when in the area. We camped at Mountain View Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Stagecoach RV Park, St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

One night stay returning home from south Florida. Check in was quick and easy. Clean campground with level gravel site. You could hear some road noise from the interstate but we ran our fan and that created good white noise for sleeping. Gave the site 4 stars since its gravel rather than paved or concrete. We camped at Stagecoach RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Camp Mack, A Guy Harvey Lodge, Marina & RV Resort, Lake Wales, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here four nights. Love the quietness and the fact that your not camping right beside your neighbors sewer hose or any other part of your neighbors site. Plenty of space between sites. Also like the level pavers at the site. Weather was perfect being it's January. I can see that this campground might be more difficult to tolerate in the very hot Florida Summer. Most of the sites I saw had little to no shade but I didn't explore the entire camp either. We camped at Camp Mack, A Guy Harvey Lodge, Marina & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Twin Creek RV Resort, Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Great RV Park. Lots of trees and all site paved and mostly level. Very nice and helpful employees. Plenty of space between each site. I like that. Also like that it is near activities in and around Gatlinburg and the national parks. Bathrooms were clean and the park itself is very clean and well kept. They also pick up your trash daily from your site. You just set it out at the front of your site. They have a bit of a shady gimmick going though. They have a ladies boutique in the office. Upon check in they tell you if you buy something from their boutique during your stay then one night of your stay is free. What they don't tell you is that the least expensive item I their boutique is $65 which is equal to one nights stay. The way I see it that's not really a free night. Would have rated it higher had it not been for that slick little move. Having said that I would stay here again but would also just pay for the site rather than the stuff in the store. We camped at Twin Creek RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Jacksonville North / St. Marys KOA, Kingsland, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Good for an overnight stay. Employees friendly and helpful. Roads inside campground in bad shape, very rough. Turns are tight with a 39' fifth wheel but manageable. Kids enjoyed the bouncy inflatables and milkshakes available in the office. Gravel sites mostly level. Bathrooms and showers were clean but very old. They honestly look like they haven't been updated since the 1950's or 60's. We were parked half way back in the park and although the highway noise wasn't overbearing it was still noticeable. Wasn't able to connect to sewer. Below the sewer receptacle the PVC piping going into the ground was a separate piece and jammed up against the receptacle so you're not able to attach your hose connector to it. We camped at Jacksonville North / St. Marys KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Aire RV Park & Campground, Hollywood, South Carolina

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

One night stay while traveling to Florida. Very nice lady when I booked the reservation and at check in. Gravel roads are somewhat rough but easy to maneuver 39' fifth wheel. Had site D-2 which was a very easy pull through. Sites are very close together. Electric, water, and sewer all good. A lot of seasonal and full timers. Overall camp looked rather old and run down but was still acceptable. Would stay here again while passing through but would not plan on an extended stay. Neighbors fire ring was within 7 or 8 feet of the left rear corner of my camper. Wasn't to crazy about that. We camped at Lake Aire RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain River Family Campground (formerly Secluded Valley RV CG), Newland, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Was at this campground for a weekend. Check in was easy and we were led to our campsite. Owners are very nice and helpful. Saturday night they invited all campers to a community camp fire for s'mores they provided. Nice fellowship on a cool clear night by the fire. We were in site 39 which is right beside the North Toe River. Really nice listening to the river run with our windows open on the camper. Very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. The only reason I did not give this campground a perfect 10 is the WiFi was nonexistent by the river. I asked the manager about the WiFi and he told me which network to use but it would never come up as an option on my iPad. Verizon signal was pretty much nonexistent as well. It fluctuated between a weak 3G and 1x signal. We camped at Mountain River Family Campground (formerly Secluded Valley RV CG) in a Fifth Wheel.

Southwoods RV Resort, Byron, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great campground! Owners very kind and helpful. Stayed here one week while exploring the area. Camped in site B9. Sites were hidden in the trees near ample space between sites. Only complaint of this campground is the marginal water pressure. Didn't try wireless as I have unlimited data with Verizon. Verizon signal was good. Will definitely stay here again if in the area! GrandView CampResort & Cottages, Moodus, Connecticut

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great campground! Stayed 4 nights. Was supposed to stay 6 nights but we were delayed two days due to unplanned maintenance on our tow vehicle. Super nice and helpful owners. Called and spoke to a member of their team and she adjusted our arrival date with no problem and didn't charge us for nights missed. Beautiful country setting! Very clean restrooms! We have a 39' fifth wheel and prior to our arrival the same lady recommended we take Rte. 2 out of Hartford to exit 16 (Hwy 149). The GPS tried to turn us down several different roads but we took Valerie's advice and remained on 149 all the way to N. Moodus Road. Glad we listened. We drove some of the other roads the GPS had recommended after unhooking and there is no way I would have wanted to go those routes with the camper hooked up. We were fortunate to stay here the week after Memorial Day and there were only four other campers in the park so there was plenty of room. We were on site N5 which was very level. The sites beside us were very tight but it didn't matter so much since the other campers weren't right beside us. Pool was great! Water pressure was marginal. Wireless very weak at our site. Verizon was back and forth from LTE with 2 bars, to 3G, to an occasional 1x and back again. Will definitely stay here again if in the area again. The only reason I give it a 9 rather than a 10 is the closeness of the adjacent sites, the marginal water pressure. We camped at GrandView CampResort & Cottages in a Fifth Wheel.
