Lake Reidsville, Reidsville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Lake Reidsville over Thanksgiving weekend 2016. We stayed in a lakeside site that was incredible. The site was fairly level. We did need every bit of our Camco Tri-Levelers to get to level though. The lake is beautiful. We watched Blue Herons fishing and spotted a couple of deer on Saturday morning. The campsite was quiet and sites were nicely spaced out. There is a burn ban in effect due to the drought so we could not have a fire. Some folks nearby chose to ignore that ban even after at least one warning from the office. Those neighbors were the only downside of the weekend. We will absolutely be back in the spring! We camped at Lake Reidsville in a Travel Trailer.

Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA, Jonestown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in Site 38, Creekside. The site was narrow so our slide out was right at the edge of the road. The utilities were also at the rear so I needed to go buy a longer fresh water hose. Sites 34-37 were all a bit wider with hook ups at the traditional side location. I would have preferred one of those sites. But, all in all, the site was good and we enjoyed being by the creek. The employees are fabulous! We walked down to get dinner on Saturday night and they said they would bring it to our site. I had issues with the TV cable and they came out to help (my problem - not theirs). We went to the store to buy firewood and they delivered to us. Very friendly and customer oriented. We would definitely stay again. We camped at Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We took the dogs for a hike in nearby Swatara State Park. Easy trails, some areas even paved. Very pretty park!

Killens Pond State Park, Felton, Delaware

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for two nights at Killens Pond in our 30' TT. The sites are very close together. For many that may be perfectly acceptable. We did not enjoy it. Loop C was directly behind us and it was difficult to tell where a Loop B site ended and Loop C site started. Our fire pit was on the other side of a tree. The people behind us in C were with some people elsewhere in B. People were continually walking directly through our campsite to get to their friends. The laughed about our dogs barking every time they cut through. Their site was close enough that we could easily listen to their normal level conversation. For the most part people did respect quiet hours. This would be a good setup if there are a few groups staying together.

We enjoyed the Trick or Treating on Saturday night.

The 2.6 mile Pond Trail was very nice. it's an easy hike with several opportunities to view the pond. We camped at Killens Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Pond Side Trail is a nice, easy hike. The primary reason I am scoring the campground low is due to the very close proximity of the sites. This may be fine to some. We don't like it. We had issues with neighbors but that is not the fault of the campground. Most people were very polite and cordial. The staff was very friendly. We won't go back because it is just not our style.

Starlite Camping Resort, Stevens, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Starlite for two nights in September 2007. We were in space 25. There was rain the day before and the forecast was for scattered showers so I think a lot of people cancelled. There are 16 sites on the road where our site was located and a total of 3 were occupied. That was perfect for us! In that area of the campground the sites are very wooded and pretty large. Even if the site in front of us was occupied, it would have been a decent distance. The sites are very close to each other in most other areas of the campground. Our preference is for a little seclusion. The staff was very friendly - the ice cream was very good! Our beagles enjoyed howling at squirrels. We don't participate in campground activities so I can't offer an opinion there. The site was pretty easy to back our 30' trailer into. The roads aren't very wide but they were all manageable. We would go back if we could get a similar site in the same area of the campground. We camped at Starlite Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Swallow Falls State Park, Oakland, Maryland

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Swallow Falls over Labor Day weekend. This was our first trip to the area. We absolutely loved the campground and the surrounding park. We stayed in site 42 with full hook ups. The site has many trees on three sides. We could barely see the campers in 42C and 41 was behind us so we didn't see them. The bath house is right behind the site though so there were people around there all the time - though it was not at all bothersome. The site was easy to back in to though the access road is quite narrow. Our neighbors in 42C had a little bit of difficulty but got their camper backed in. We were with our two beagles. We could not take them on the trail to the falls on the campground side of the river. We were able to go to a trail on the opposite side which was still very nice. I suspect the campground side had a better view of Muddy Creek Falls though. We were permitted to take the dogs on the five mile trail and did about half of that. We saw very few other people on the hike and had the pleasure of watching five deer about 20 yards in front of us until the dogs barked. The day use area was quite busy on Sunday. We had left the park and had to wait in line for quite awhile to get back in. There were many families at the campground but everyone was very respectful of quiet hours. We will absolutely stay here again! We camped at Swallow Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have dogs with you, you will not be able to use the day use trail to the falls but you can go up the other side of the river where there is a very nice trail with good views of the river and a few access points to the river.

Gettysburg Campground, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first camping experience so we don't have much to compare it to. We were in site 111 on a Friday and Saturday night. We had no immediate neighbors. All the sites in our area had at least a few trees. Everyone was very respectful of quiet hours. The roads are rather narrow but we saw some pretty large 5th wheelers navigate them without much effort. The opposite end of the campground was more family oriented and much more crowded. We will definitely be back as this is an easy weekend get-away for us. We will look for a creek-side site in the same area next time. We camped at Gettysburg Campground in a Travel Trailer.
