Shoal Creek Campground COE, Buford, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful COE park on the shores of Lake Lanier here in Georgia. Most of the sites are on fingers that jut out into the lake and some are spectacular. #55 and 53 come to mind as being the best sites with the Lakeview and incredible sunsets. 50 amp, water, asphalt driveway, concrete pad, picnic table, fire pit, barbecue, lantern post. The only bad thing is their pea gravel is tiny and has a lot of white dirt which results in dust and tracking into the motorhome. Our view on the east side gave us incredible sunrises. It was the hottest recorded temperatures ever during our stay so we were grateful for the shade here in site 74.. We camped at Shoal Creek Campground COE in a Motorhome.

We had a really good dinner at fish tales restaurant, the conch fritters reminded us of the islands! We had two tasty burgers For a main course. Kinda expensive.....
We tried to go to a Lake Lanier Islands restaurant but the guard at the gate said it was a $15 entry fee. Lots of guard gates to all the Marina’s/restaurants here.

Roan Mountain State Park, Roan Mountain, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful mountain State Park with higher altitude and cooler temperatures! Well loved by all so reservations are a must. The weekends are filled to capacity with the week not far behind. Beautiful trails especially up on the mountain! The river was really low so the fishing was pretty much nonexistent. Our side had 50 amp, water, picnic table, fire pit made out of stones, and we were on the river. The sound of the babbling brook was a wonderful! There is music on Fridays and Saturdays and lots of programs all ending on Labor Day. The Wi-Fi was pretty much spotty/nonexistent unless you sat on their rockers in front of the check in office. Then it was wonderful! The lower section loop is big rig friendly. Don’t try it in the upper section if you have a big rig. No discounts given on the lower loop. Fabulous staff and friendly rangers! We camped at Roan Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Kendall COE, Jamestown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Two campgrounds here at Kendall. We stayed at the Annex which is more open. The main campground has many more trees and also has Wi-Fi near the bathrooms. They also recycle! Our site was very large, level, had gravel, borders, a nice picnic table, fire ring and plenty of parking for a toad. We had 50 amp and water hook up. Big rigs will fit in just fine here in certain spots. Great Verizon cell coverage and we also had good satellite at our campsite. Being connected for the week was a treat! Two dump stations at each campground. When the newly planted trees grow up at this site it will be superb! The Wolf Creek national fish Hatchery here is fantastic. The staff inside has lots of information about the area. Make sure to check out the rock house.
Lots of trout fishing here both easy and hard, you pick. The Hatchery stocks a stream directly behind it every other day and it’s like taking candy from a baby. They also have the Hatchery Creek (catch & release) which was totally man-made a few years ago and offers fishing there too. Unfortunately access to the creek other than near the road requires a machete. Really overgrown with thorns in spots. We heard there were lots of ticks as well. I was talking to one of the Core guys and they actually mowed the river trail for us. They said the department of natural resources has right away on the stream and they cannot clear any type of path at all. Such a lost opportunity to enjoy a unique fishing scenario. We fished the river before the generations started and did well fly fishing for trout near the tree cover. We camped at Kendall COE in a Motorhome.

Dale Hollow Damsite COE, Celina, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful setting with great spacing of the sites for the most part. Sites 24, 31, 33, 29, 27, 25 were amazing....make reservations early for those. Wide open during the week and filled on the weekend. We had a riverfront so it was closer spacing. The cleaning service does a great job of keeping the park/bathrooms clean! Dam generation was not friendly for kayak trout fishing during the week. We did get to go out Saturday and Sunday until 10am. Lots of trout on fly upriver! The dump of trout on Friday from the hatchery was a zoo...a person on every rock. Feral cats here that need to be sterilized. A kind gentleman does feed them but winter has to be hard....kinda sad. We camped at Dale Hollow Damsite COE in a Motorhome.

Long Branch COE, Lancaster, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

On the banks of the Caney Fork with the occasional cool breeze from the tailwater on the waterfront sites. Fabulous! The COE always seem to do it right. Spacious, level, 50Amp, water, gravel site with borders, picnic table, covered two layer table, lantern post, firepit....etc. Nice clean bathrooms, great water pressure showers, and washers & dryer. Campground hosts are great and the garden around the office is filled with flowers, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Hard to drive by without enjoying! Unfortunately several waterfront sites are closed due to bank erosion from the high releases this spring. Big Rock Market just up the road has a fantastic selection of fishing kayaks. Also provided us with river shuttle service and killer BBQ! We camped at Long Branch COE in a Motorhome.

Flamingo Campground (NPS Campground), Homestead, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Our cat was bitten by a pygmy rattlesnake in T loop camp ground. He was walking on a leash near a tree. The camp site was in the middle of a campground area. Luckily he was not injected with venom. Ended up at Miami Vet specialists in Miami for treatment. Watch your dogs! I heard twp dogs were bitten in the past by the same snake species. Bring your weed whackers and ant killer! Dump station and water fill adjacent to bathhouse. Choose your site carefully as you don’t want to be next to that. Nice new power posts. We camped at Flamingo Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Mazalea Campground & RV Park, Biloxi, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Just off the Interstate in our long asphalt pull thru spot #99 with full hook up. Escort to the spot from the check in lady in the golf cart. Utilities in the middle where they should be for a pull thru. Nicely stocked store with ice cream! Great check in and well organized process. Got the lowdown on a casual seafood eatery that was great. Big Camping World store right around the corner. We were here during the 2018 Cruising the Coast weeklong event where thousands of classic cars descend on the coast of Mississippi. Cool stuff! We camped at Mazalea Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Amarillo RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Good location for a two day stop. But the park is older and in need of some TLC - paint on the fences (some of which are held up by steel posts), pick up the trash (cigarette butts my pet peeve), playground table has mold from wet spots, etc. Good Sam website rates it a 10 but no way. We did ask to have our site cleaned of butts and trash and they did that quickly. Our site was large and level with good parking for the toad. We seemed to be in the permanent section. I will say that the flies are pretty terrible. Have your swatter readily available! Did enjoy the retail store Lizzie Mars. Sam's club just down the road is great to resupply and has the cheapest diesel in town. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Big Texan steak ranch is a great Texas steakhouse! Ribeye steak, baked potato with all the fixings, and a good salad with real blue cheese dressing! It is the home of the 72 ounce steak challenge. The contestants are on the stage doing their best but the two that were there while we were dining lost their challenge.

River Camp RV Park, Meeker, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stopped here for a few days and just missed the Sheep dog trials that happened over the weekend. That would have been cool!. This park is on the White River which was pretty low and warm at our visit. They were asking you not to fish after 2 pm in the afternoon to avoid stressing the trout. The sites were long, gravel, and spacious. We had site 14 on the outside ring and had lots of room with a firepit and picnic table. Turkeys were in the field just behind us. Elk hunting season was in full swing so the woods had lots of hunters. Great WIFI which had been upgraded so that is always a plus! Meeker is small American town with lots of history. We spent our day cruising the Flat Tops Trail scenic and historic byway up to Trapper Lake and it was a beautiful fall day with lots of Aspen colors in the high altitudes. We camped at River Camp RV Park in a Motorhome.

Colter Bay Village RV Park -- Full Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) , Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

Location, location, location! This is the location for exploring the Northern end of GTNP with a full hook up. However, when I look out the windows it looks like a huge used RV/truck lot with lots of tall pine trees. I mean lots of pines. Gouges in the trees that border the roads so you better be good at navigating tight quarters. We did see lots of tag axels big boys in there so it can be done. No Sprint and no satellite TV. There is WIFI and we found the faster connection at the cabin rental office vs. the grocery store. Our dirt/pine needle site was level enough and long enough so no problem there. It sprinkled one morning and was a mess with lots of tracking in of pine bits even though we take our shoes off. No campfires allowed in the full hook up section. The grocery store was really well stocked and convenient although expensive. The gift shop next door was nice and had a good selection of goodies. They do charge resort prices for the luxury of being here with a no frills campground other than a full hook up and an amazing location. The Aspens seemed to start showing their golden fall colors overnight while we were here.....stunning! We camped at Colter Bay Village RV Park -- Full Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Firehole Canyon, Rock Springs, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

High desert campground at 6100 feet 13 miles down a paved winding road off 191. The town of Rock Springs was a great place to stock up on all your supplies. Campground is located on the beautiful Flaming Gorge reservoir overlooking cliffs and the desert plateaus. Life abounds with pronghorn antelope, mule deer, jackrabbits, chipmunks. (they enjoyed the fruits of the Russian olive trees that shaded some of the campsites), and all kinds of birds. We even had seagulls and white pelicans to remind us of home. There is a convenient dump station and potable water fill at the entrance. Water spigots were located around the circle. Campsites are a bit odd in that they share the same alphalt gravel driveway and have a covered picnic table on opposite sides of the shelter at each site (with the exception of the marked double sites). Each 1/2 has it's own in ground fire ring. Everyone here at this time enjoyed their own double space....it would not be good to share if the campgound was crowded. Parking toads and awnings could present a problem. We are 35' and 13' high so we had to manuever around the picnic shelter roof to get into our chosen site. Two older bathrooms with solar heated showers are at each end of the campground. A really nice updated boatramp was over the hill. We camped at Firehole Canyon in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Off road dirt vehicles can have a blast here with lots of off road trails. A local told us of the 35 mile canyon rim trail...The star show was pretty awesome after sundown. We launched our kayaks from the beach and caught trout on spinners. I flogged the water for the carp I was seeing to no avail with my fly rod...Alas, we also gathered a garbage bag full of plastic and trash from one of the canyon beaches.

Juniper Campground, Ririe, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Somebody in Bonneville County must be an RVer and have a design job because this is just about the most perfect park we have ever been to! The sites are just wonderful.....asphalt roads, asphalt pads, lush green grass, great fire pit, picnic table, spectacular space between spots, trees, no biting bugs, great roads, a fish filled lake, hill top trail, nice boat ramp, $25 per night, and did I mention spacious sites? We were in C loop and just loved our spot! Didn't use the bathrooms but checked them out and they were a bit older but clean. CG is on a hilltop overlooking the reservoir and has eagles and ospreys galore. Found a Kokanee salmon in the parking lot which was the spoils of an arial battle between the two species according to a fellow camper. The highlight of our stay was the Bull Moose we watched down on the lake. Trying for months to spot one and bammm, right here out the backdoor! I wish all campgrounds could be more like this one. We will definitely come back to this spot when we return to Idaho. We camped at Juniper Campground in a Motorhome.

Yellowstone Golf Resort, Ashton, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Aspen Grove camping in middle of the wheat and barley fields....and I mean in the middle. Friendly seasonal residents with lots of information on fun things to do. Sites were gravel but you had to go down the dirt road to get there; coach was dusty going in and out. Navigating the Aspens to get to your site was not a big deal. Fire restrictions for the first few nights in the camp ground. Trash in our fire pit with cigarettes the big offender. Our site #15 was a level one that backed up to our rear neighbor. Golf course looked like a fun time in your backyard! Wifi was only up at the barn but we sometimes got an intermittent connection down in the grove. Full hook up always a pleasure in Idaho, the land of dry camping. Lots of Nature to explore in the area, fly fishing the holy waters of the Henry's Fork is tops! We camped at Yellowstone Golf Resort in a Motorhome.

Picabo Angler RV Park, Picabo, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Ranchland surrounds this spacious campground in the valley. Sheep herd across from the campground was fun to watch for our cats. ReserveAmerica.com for reservations and check in at the Texaco/grill/fly shop across the street upon arrival. We had a pull through spot that was long enough to land a plane (which they have at the gas station too). It had beautiful green grass as they water everything here in the valley daily. Picnic table on site and firerings scattered around the campground on the berm that separates it from the highway. Campground is centrally located near the Siver Creek, the world famous fly fishing river here in Idaho. The fly shop has everything you could need and shop dogs. We fished various sections of the creek and had a fishapooloza on dry flys! LOTS of rules to this creek so check with the preserve/shop before you fish. Craters of the Moon National Park was a must do for a day. Really found this place "out of this world". Great pictures. We camped at Picabo Angler RV Park in a Motorhome.

Moose are on in the preserve but all we got was fresh poop.......Moose cows, calves, young males, and mature bulls were sighted and listed at the preserve but we got notta...drive up on the hillside which overlooks the creek for a good viewing spot. Coyotes and deer are in the valley too. Of course, fishing rules here!
