Yellow Banks County Park, Pleasant Hill, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are spacious and shaded. CG is usually full on the weekends. We camp there a number of times every year and usually have to get there Thursday AM to get a site. Restrooms are cleaned every day but with the usage of the CG they get messed up pretty quick. All in all it is a very nice CG. There is a large pond, recreation area for the kids, horse shoe pits, hiking trails, boat access to the Des Moines River, large tent camping area, ball fields and a number of shelters available for rental. We camped at Yellow Banks County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Middle Fork Campground USFS, Buffalo, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

One of the best CG's we have stayed at. All 5 sites are right next to a 12-14' wide 3-4' deep stream. No dump station. Off of highway 16, 9 miles west of Buffalo. This is a beautiful, quiet CG with good trout fishing and moose seen a number of times. This CG is a one of a kind if you love the scenery, quiet and only 5 sites so not busy with a lot of people and noise. This CG lies along the Middle Fork of the Powder River. To the south, the southernmost peaks of the Bighorn Mountains rise abruptly. Trout fishing is good here, and wildlife is attracted in quantity by the river. A fascinating quick trip is south on Arminto Road, just west of the campground to Butch Cassidy`s infamous Hole in a Wall, the canyon where he and the Wild Bunch sought refuge. We camped at Middle Fork Campground USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Newton Creek Campground, Shoshone National Forest USFS, Wapiti, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Scenery is beautiful along Highway 16 west to Newton Creek CG. CG is 16 miles East of Yellowstone NP and 37 miles West of Cody. CG borders the Shoshone River and mountains across the river. CG is beautiful, well kept and quiet. Popups/tents are not allowed because of the Grizzlies. We have stayed here 3 years with two of them in June and one in July. There are a number of CG's along highway 14-16-20 between Cody and Yellowstone NP. Pit toilets were always well cared for with a couple of water hydrants within the 31 site CG. We did see moose walk through the CG twice. Stay here and you will not be disappointed. We camped at Newton Creek Campground, Shoshone National Forest USFS in a Travel Trailer.

Horsethief Lake Campground - USFS, Keystone, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here every year since 2009 and always look forward to staying here. Hosts are very friendly, helpful and are always keeping track of who is coming and going. This CG is well kept up, CG restrooms are newer and clean, firewood is available, plenty of shade and CG is quiet. No electric but generators are allowed, potable water is available at the hydrants. The lake is beautiful and swimming is allowed. CG is within 10 minutes of Mt Rushmore and within an hour of Rapid City, Wind Cave NP, Deadwood and Spearfish. One of the posts said they couldn't get the CG's WIFI, WIFI is not provided in the National Forest Services CG's. Most of the NFS CG's we have stayed in are beautiful and well kept but this one is one of our favorites. If you like "roughing" it then check this one out. We camped at Horsethief Lake Campground - USFS in a Travel Trailer.
