Stagecoach RV Park, St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Rate I quoted was based on a weekly rate, and is all-in (includes taxes). This is a nice, quiet park with full hookups, cable TV, and a clean bath house. The sites were close together, but not uncomfortably so. Most of the sites are pull-throughs so it was easy to get around. I got propane there on the way out. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

One negative was the bright lighting all night - directly outside my rig.

The location is very near I-95, where there are lots of shops and restaurants, including a Camping World. It's also an easy drive to St. Augustine, which I enjoyed visiting. We camped at Stagecoach RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pine Lake RV Campground, Bishop, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

I love this park. New owners took over in mid-October, and I can't say enough about how accessible and attentive they are. The park is lovely, with a beautiful lake in the middle. The new owners are investing in making it even better; when I was there, they paved the roads, and they're working on an expansion. The bathrooms are clean and spacious and the laundry is reasonably priced.

One thing that would make it better would be to add cable TV. Currently they offer Direct TV boxes for rent at $5/day, and I had a lot of trouble with it.

Overall, it's among the very best parks I've stayed at, and I've already made my reservation here for next spring! I highly recommend it. We camped at Pine Lake RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Country Hills Campground, Marathon, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is in a beautiful, fairly remote setting, with campsites surrounding a lake. It was very quiet and clean. I stayed for a week at the very end of the season, and the owner was very accommodating, letting me stay past the official closing date. The rate I quoted above is based on a weekly rate, including taxes, and reflects a $5 reduction for the last two nights because they turned the water off in preparation for closing for the season. I appreciated the owner doing this for me.

Most of the sites are seasonal. As far as I could tell, the nightly campers were all in one row, extremely close to each other, with no trees. That's one of the features I didn't like so much.

There was virtually no TV reception, and although I paid an extra $3 a day for the outsourced wifi, it didn't work well enough to be useable. I had to use my mifi.

Although the bathhouse was clean, I found it annoying to discover that it cost $.50 per five minutes to take a shower. After returning to my rig to get the quarters, I put $1.00 in so I could get a 10 minute shower, but it shut off after five minutes. Which meant I had to get fully out of the shower in the middle, and fumble for more quarters, to get the next 5 minutes. To add insult to injury, the timed lights in the bathroom turned off and I had to finish in complete darkness. This all seemed very petty to me. I have not run across this at any other campground.

Overall, the area of the campground around the lake and up the hill into the woods is very lovely and I had several very pleasant walks through the area. The owner was very accommodating to me. However, I didn't like the closeness of the sites, the lack of TV and wifi, and the shower system. I would probably look to stay elsewhere the next time I'm in the area. We camped at Country Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

Shamrock Pines Campground, Franklinville, New York

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

I really enjoyed my one week stay at Shamrock Pines. When I arrived, the owner met me at the entrance and helped me to unhook my car from the motorhome, and he was pleasant and helpful the entire week. The rest rooms were clean, the campground was lovely, with open sites as well as sites under the pines. Laundry prices were very reasonable.

Wifi is very important to me, and that was only available in the office area. But, my mifi device worked just fine, even though cell service was marginal. We camped at Shamrock Pines Campground in a Motorhome.

Pine Cove Beach Resort, Charleroi, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed for a week in the off season, so the nightly rate I paid reflects that. I didn't use the pool so can't comment on that. Overall, I had a great stay at this park.

My ideal park would have more shade, be more natural, and have more privacy. But even so, this place had just about everything I could need. I enjoyed the excellent wifi, the level gravel sites, with grassy areas around the picnic table, the peacefulness, the cleanliness, and the wonderful service by the owners. I also liked the security, with codes needed to access the RV area and the bath house.

The deep dip in the driveway mentioned by other reviewers seems to have been corrected - there is clearly new asphault, making the area more level. The park was easy to find, with very visible signage, in a great location just off I-70. We camped at Pine Cove Beach Resort in a Motorhome.

Artillery Ridge Campground, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed for three nights. The park was clean and pleasant. I thought the price was high for what it is, but I recognize that it's in a tourist attraction, which was why I was willing to pay it. It was perfectly located to tour Gettysburg - the NPS Visitor Center is very close to the campground.

The staff in the store/registration area were friendly and helpful.

The wifi was terrible, and there was no cable TV.

The showers were exceptionally clean. The washers and dryers were plentiful and reasonably priced.

I would definitely recommend it and would stay here again if I wanted to tour the Gettysburg National Military Park. We camped at Artillery Ridge Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Gettysburg National Military Park is fabulous. I would recommend any of the ranger talks. I purchased the CD's and did the auto tour, which was terrific.

Pine Cone Resort, Freehold, New Jersey

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Just a note that I stayed here for a month, which is the reason for the low rate. The nightly rate is much higher - about double. If I had to pay the nightly rate, my score for Value would be much lower.

The bathrooms were not clean. There were only two women's showers for the whole campground and you had to walk through the changing area of one to get to the other. Definitely wear shoes in the shower.

I spent quite a bit of time doing a thorough cleaning of the site, including removal of broken glass.

The staff was generally helpful but I would not call them friendly.

There was decent separation between the sites. Many of the sites are nicely wooded, but not the one I was in. There's an area for big rigs which is open and grassy.

The roads and the sites in the campground are essentially sand. The roads are rutted and turn into rivers when it rains. You're constantly tracking sand/dirt into the RV.

The wifi is useless. The laundry is $3.25 for a wash, and $3.25 for a dry, which is way too high.

Overall, it wasn't an awful place, but it wasn't great, either. If I have a choice, I will not stay here again. We camped at Pine Cone Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are two strip shopping centers at the corner of Jackson Mills Road and Chandler Road. The ambiance isn't great, but Mia's Pizza had excellent food and service. Minit Stop Deli is a fantastic place with excellent wifi. Great coffee and breakfast sandwiches.

And, Rick Worth's "Central Jersey RV Service" is outstanding, if you need any repairs.
