Tuttle Creek Campground, Lone Pine, California

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

A great place to stop and hang out for a while. Being on the downward slope from the mountains, it will likely require some leveling to make things perfect. The area is beautiful, and Tuttle Creek runs right through the middle of the campground. Our site was long enough for our combined 65ft motorhome and trailer, plus our Jeep. About 20ft behind our trailer was a path leading down to the creek, a hidden oasis with a canopy of trees, enough room for two chairs, and a flat sand bar for wading. The sites were clean and the campground host was attentive. The pit toilets were clean and did not smell or have webs or creatures in them. Watch out for the speed bumps. They are marked on the entrance road, but not marked within the campground. They are at a 30 degree angle to the road, and are guaranteed to empty the contents of your cabinets if you proceed too quickly. I cannot overemphasize this. We camped at Tuttle Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Storrie Lake State Park, Las Vegas, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are nice, with pit toilets scattered about and a regular flushing bathroom with showers located near the reservable area. The roads and lots are quite rutted, and one must take care with low ground clearance vehicles. They have reserved, and walk-up sites, some with electricity, but most with water. There are also boondocking sites. Our developed walk-up site had a nice shelter, was right on the edge of the lake, water, campfire ring and a table. But it needed some serious leveling. We were able to park our 65ft combined rig there without disconnecting. While there is plenty of space left to park in the site next to us, an arriving camper might give us a wary look for our trailer being so near to their shelter. The self service entry station has a double gate, half of which remains closed. With the positions of the gate and the fee station, there is quite a jog that requires close attention and spotting if driving a big rig. We camped at Storrie Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Bluewater Lake State Park, Prewitt, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

This place is a gem. We were a little fooled by the town outside of the park, it looked rundown. The park itself, has apparently had recent upgrades. The signage was new and crisp, new dump station, new restrooms, and well maintained campsites. Our undeveloped $8 site looked down upon the lake, and while the wind was blowing hard, we were well sheltered by the trees surrounding our site. While some of the roads were tight, we still managed to drive our 65ft combined rig throughout the park, except the dead ends. We had plenty of parking length and did not unhook. We camped at Bluewater Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Homolovi Ruins State Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice place to camp and visit the nearby archeological sites. Our site was an electric pull-thru. What I hate about site-specific reservations, is that one just doesn't know what one is getting online. Our site (20) was clean and more than long enough for our 36ft class A with 24ft trailer, 65ft total length. We could even leave the rear trailer ramp open if we desired, as well park our Jeep and a friend's car. But the site required leveling, and the picnic table was hardly usable with its tilt. We could level the rig just fine, but the off-pavement part of the site was not very usable. Other sites appeared to be better, but being site-specific, it just wasn't worth the trouble to attempt to make changes. Be sure to visit the Painted Desert lookout, 15 miles north on the same road that leads to the park. The view was amazing. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

Wild West RV Park, Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Updated power, water, sewer connections. New washers and dryers, and very clean laundry room. For once, I didn't fear accidentally dropping clothes on the floor. Nice tiled restrooms which were very clean. This park is run by campers who know from experience how a campground should be kept. The park is virtually treeless. The surface is flat and low dust, even in a windstorm. Van Horn isn't much, with most establishments closed during the day. Lots of boarded up windows. Almost impossible to get a drink within walking distance. Still, a fine place to stop, rest for a day, do some laundry, watch some TV on the free cable with some decent channels. Free Wi-Fi too! We camped at Wild West RV Park in a Motorhome.

Top O' The Caves, South Bloomingville, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Tight turns in the park roads. We were assisted with finding and maneuvering into our site. Our Surge Arrest noted a power condition immediately, without hooking up, with the breaker TURNED OFF! We were told there were no other sites available. It turned out the loop next to ours had several sites unused. I took measurements and found a 15 volt difference between neutral and ground. Our air conditioning still worked, but the inverter/charger refused to cooperate. Water pressure okay. Sites are close together with little room for vehicles. But the grass was nicely mowed. Very tight getting out with other spaces occupied. We did clip a tree branch, breaking a roof vent and damaging fiberglass roof crown. We camped at Top O' The Caves in a Motorhome.

Juniper Hills Campground, Brooklyn, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived at 5:pm in the rain, on a Tuesday. No races. Though the office was closed, they saw us and raced back in to register us. Our site was very unlevel, but we just took a more suitable one, as nobody else was there. Power was good. Water bibs were scattered about, so either park close to one, or have a long hose. Pretty cool place, though I wouldn't want to be there during the races. We had a very peaceful stay, and some great walks around the area. They charge an additional $10/day for 50amp service. We camped at Juniper Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

Fireside Resort at Kruse Park, Auburn, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Fireside was there for us when there was no room at the State parks. That's what happens when you arrive on a Saturday. That said, we were placed next to a rig that appeared to have been there for a while. Stuff was scattered about, but the residents cleaned up when they returned and saw us there. The pool was National Lampoon's vacation, unusable. Restroom s were very clean. Nobody was at the office when we arrived, nor did we see anyone the next day. The campground has potential, but is lacking as a resort. Plenty of room for pull through. We camped at Fireside Resort at Kruse Park in a Motorhome.

Oakdale Campground, Quincy, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

I love quirky campgrounds and this was no exception. The last mile was a dusty dirt road through a cornfield. When we arrived, they were celebrating Christmas in July. Lights and decorations were in abundance. Check-in was informal. They didn't even ask me to sing any paperwork. Our site was an open grassy area with a power nap and hose bib. Plenty of seasonals. A narrow river runs there, with another campground on the other side. The restroom was quite a walk up the hill. Power was good, as was water pressure and quality. The lady in the office was very nice. The roads are dirt and dust. We camped at Oakdale Campground in a Motorhome.

Outflow Camping COE, Confluence, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was large enough for the rig and our Jeep parked in front. Sites were nicely laid out with plenty of grass around. The restrooms were close and clean. I'm not so sure about the campground location, but it depends on what you have planned. COE campgrounds are always a pleasant stay and at a good price. Prince William Forest RV Campground, Dumfries, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here twice over the past few months, as it provides access, albeit distant, to Washington DC. Distance to VRE station is less than 30 minutes. This campground is a overpriced KOA in disguise. Having to pay additional for our granddaughter was an insult. That said, the sites are clean, but close together and very short. A 36ft site does not mean 37 or 36.5ft. There is a pool, which we did not use, but it appeared to be clean. The restrooms were generally clean, but still smelled of urine. Our 30amp power had a bad leg, but in actuality, the entire circuit did. Many systems would not fault on that but ours did. They blamed our rig, but after 25000 miles before Prince William and 5 campgrounds later, our system is still working fine. This CG is good for location, but I would not spend my vacation there. We camped at Prince William Forest RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Van Buren State Park, South Haven, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Van Buren SP is in a nice location in Southwest Michigan. The park is nice, expansive, with lots of trees, plenty of campsites, and a pleasant strip of beach, just North (within visual sight) of the nuclear power plant. Perhaps that is why the water is so pleasantly warm. The restrooms smelled of urine and were generally unpleasant to use. Campsites are nice and level, but the fire rings were built from surplus pipe and concrete, and poorly designed. A lot of smoky, poorly ventilated fires made for a heavy haze emanating from the park. This necessitated closing our windows to prevent asphyxiation from the smoke. Our 50 amp service had a bad leg, so we had to settle for 30amps. This next paragraph is directed more at the State of Michigan. You have a lot of nerve charging a daily recreational fee of $8.95 for each vehicle, especially for the camping unit itself. I have learned to accept a daily fee for extra vehicles in order to keep the traffic limited, but not for the RV. Being smacked for an additional $54 for three days did not set well. The roads are in poor shape, with patches and seams that will jar your bolts loose. And what about all those miles of coastline that are obscured by private property? There are 49 other states to visit and spend money in. Michigan is no longer on the list. We camped at Van Buren State Park in a Motorhome.

Palmetto Island State Park, Abbeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Louisiana State Parks appear to take pride in their campgrounds and this shows. Sites are long and wide. Restrooms are clean and even have free laundry. The wi-fi is slow but it works. The hosts were very nice as were the kiosk staff. The surrounding swamps were just like you'd expect to see in a movie. Abbeville is not far, with the usual services including the requisite Dairy Queen. The interior roads could use some work, and better trail maps would be nice. We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Eastbank COE, Bainbridge, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Not sure how I misread the web information, (after reading for many parks) but I thought it was FCFS, and upon arrival, found the campground was full, with no walk-ups available. The hosts in the booth were very nice, and the called River Junction COE Campground, just two miles up the road. Not listed anywhere, you even have to dig for it on the Corps of Engineers website. It was available on FCFS only. Simple, 11 sites of more than adequate size for our 36ft motorhome and tow. Back-in. Water, 50amp, picnic tables, fire rings, separate tent sites, restrooms with showers, and a lake view filtered through trees. What's to complain about? We camped at Eastbank COE in a Motorhome.

Davis Bayou Campground, Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

I agree with previous reviews. Just be careful when maneuvering your rig. Nice ranger, beautiful visitor center. Now, the downside. If you are staying here because you need a base of operation for a few days, then there is plenty to do around Biloxi. If you believe the Park is a destination in itself for beach activities and exploring, think again. National Seashore spreads for a hundred miles in both directions, very little of which touches this park. It is a location for a visitor center, which happens to have a campground. The place is pretty, has a lagoon and some trails, but is surrounded by residential areas. If you came for a week, don't have a smaller vehicle to get around with, and are expecting alot from the Park, you may be disappointed. We camped at Davis Bayou Campground in a Motorhome.
