Red Haw State Park, Chariton, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for Labor Day weekend the campground was full, beautiful trees and shade, you will need to clean everything that is left outside as it will be covered in sap from the trees. We had a great weekend overall, but the lots are a little small , we would highly recommend this park. We camped at Red Haw State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There is a very nice bait shop and Trading Post gift shop about 3/4 miles to the east of the park entrance. Huge Harley-Davidson plus store 1/2 mile to the west of the park entrance.

Viking Lake State Park, Stanton, Iowa

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Great park to visit. Great amenities in the campground. Water in the showers was cold late in the evening one night but then very hot in the mornings. The grass was 6 inches tall and needed to be mowed. Having two dump stations was a big plus when people lined up to get out on Sunday. Great fire pits and picnic table at each camping spot. We will come back here someday. We camped at Viking Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pikes Peak State Park, Mcgregor, Iowa

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived without reservations on a Sunday afternoon and stayed for 3 nights. We were very happy with the accommodations. A water connection would have been nice but that's why we carry a 45 gallon water tank with us. My only issue was that the electrical boxes were located on the wrong side for normal back in camping in the spot where we were. We had to use our 30 amp extension cord to reach the box. Great setting, camp host was on us like a used car salesman when we first arrived and helped us find a spot and offered to help us get into our spot. Surpisingly busy campground for the time of year but it was peak fall foliage time. We will be back. We camped at Pikes Peak State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Hiking trails were nice. Several antique and other shops in nearby McGregor. There is a casino about 3 miles from the campground in Marquette if that interests you.
