Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Staff were friendly and helpful. Park is quiet with simple landscaping and very clean. Easy to maneuver through the wide streets. Most sites are pullthroughs. Some sites are longer/wider than others. No grass on/between sites. Laundry room is spacious and reasonably priced. The vintage feel of this former trading post is pretty awesome, both inside and out. Lots of road noise from I-40. We camped at Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post in a Fifth Wheel.

Camping World is right next door for those forgotten supplies, and a Love's truck stop 2 miles away. There is a gate in the west fence leading onto range land to walk dogs -- watch for goats' heads and catci, though.

Pima County Fairgrounds, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

The park and the surrounding fairgrounds are great and we're planning to stay again when we're in the area. Yes, it's a big gravel parking lot if you want the modern 50-amp FHU, but it's very clean and you can't beat the price. Laundry rooms (2) are small but they are open 24 hours. Packages were delivered to our trailer and dumpster emptied every day. Dog runs kept clean and stocked with bags. Our semi truck didn't fit on the site with our 5er and the other vehicle, but we were allowed to park it on the edge of the campground, just 75 feet away. The best part was the ability to walk the dog throughout the fairgrounds, including the 1.5-mile nature trail in the NW corner. Events at the fairgrounds may impact your stay (horses/cow trailers & smells), and cars could be heard at the speedway nearby. We camped at Pima County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Great base of operations for exploring Tucson, although it's a long drive to get to Catalina State Park and the north side. Take the narrated drive up Mt. Lemmon. There's a large Fry's grocery about 6 miles north on Houghton Road, and a new shopping area just north of the I-10.

Overnite RV Park, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Smaller, older park. PROS: Helpful staff. Long sites, including several with private pet runs. Short drive to the famous Big Texan restaurant. Roads are somewhat narrow but no problems getting our 65-foot big rig in/out following directions. CONS: Lots of road noise being right by the highway. We stopped for one night during a horrible storm so didn't see/use much of the park at all and can't comment further. We will probably stop here again for a night on our way back across the country. We camped at Overnite RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oklahoma City East KOA, Choctaw, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

My review is mixed and based on a longer stay. An overnighter probably wouldn't see these issues at all. It's a recently expanded park with basic amenities. Roads and sites are good except a couple of turns/hills are sharp/steep. Roads & sites are a combination of asphalt/paved and gravel. Nicely wooded park. Premium sites are very nice (we did not stay on one of those). Basic sites include picnic table. Office and laundry area needs updating but is clean & functional. Large number of seasonal residents but sites and rigs are tidy. Dog park is very small and sandy/muddy. Dog park refuse bin was almost always overflowing. Activity building was closed the entire time except when the owners opened it for a garage sale. (??) Also campground workers speed through the park in golf carts and vehicles. One worker brings his dog off-leash everywhere even though it's against park rules. Best part: 1-mile nature trail through the woods. We walked it every day. Worst part: They wanted us to pay an estimated electric bill at the end of our stay, when no charge for electric had ever been mentioned on website, email confirmation, or upon check-in. Convenient location for visiting Tinker Air Force Base or Midwest City. Only a half hour into Oklahoma City proper. We camped at Oklahoma City East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park - Knightstown, Knightstown, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

New owners took over in 2018 and are making improvements to this older park. 60-70% are seasonal/full-time residents with a mix of size/quality of rig (some dilapidated). Overnight stays are mostly on pull-through FHU sites in a single loop near the laundry. Roads and sites are narrow and graveled. We nearly bottomed out our rig pulling into the entrance because the ground slopes and the gravel won't stay on the slope. We were able to stay in a pullthrough that was just long enough for our truck & trailer (~70 feet) but some are significantly shorter. Half the campground is down a steep hill - be careful of your hitch setup, and avoid it if you have a XL (40-foot) rig. Utilities were fine, although definitely lots of iron in the water (even using an external filter) but no problems with laundry and we just drank bottled water. The grounds are lovely, with a large pond, mature trees, and lots of room to walk the dog. (They don't shade the campsites though.) As we were there during the fall it was pretty quiet and the activities had all been packed away for the summer. Big camp store. Truck stop and McDonald's are basically across the street. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park - Knightstown in a Fifth Wheel.

Pumpkin Patch RV Resort, Hermon, Maine

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

You cannot go wrong by staying at this park which is targeted toward a quiet, adult clientele. The park is very clean with courteous, friendly staff and working on-site owners. The office staff is great about getting you the best discount possible, including Passport America, Good Sam, Escapees, military, AAA, FMCA, etc. The park has a lovely country setting with lots of trees, bushes, and flowers. Activities (potlucks, crafts, etc.) are scheduled most weeks. Sites are long and spacious. Some pull-throughs are as long as 80 feet. Sites are a combination of back-in and pull-through. Some are shaded, some not, so let staff know if you are concerned about satellite reception. Roads and sites are heavily graveled but can get squishy with heavy rain. No highway noise, but there is an active Air Force base and commercial airport nearby so daytime jet traffic is notable. All sites come with picnic tables. Fire rings are available on request. Bathrooms, laundry, and clubhouse are immaculate. As of this writing, the park does not have cable, but the WiFi is excellent. They just added a fenced dog park while we were there, and a dog groomer is on site. We camped at Pumpkin Patch RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The little town of Hermon has the essentials - a good grocery store, pizza place, Dunkin' Donuts, Ace Hardware, post office, etc.. Bangor is just a quick 10 minutes away for everything else. Pumpkin Patch also offers RV storage for a very low rate. There is also a lovely new cabin for rent! ** The township offices are just a mile down the road and offer free recycling dropoff!

Promised Land State Park, Greentown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely state park, easy to access off I-84. We stayed in the Beechwood Loop in late April. Restrooms were still padlocked and there were very few campers - nice and quiet. Roads and most sites in this loop are asphalt and level. End sites (like ours) was a combination of gravel and grass. Lovely lovely park for hiking, fishing, and exploring. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Dogs are only allowed in some of the sites - you can't even walk your dog on a leash down 2 of the loops, which I guess is great for dog-phobic persons. Bear-proof trash cans. *XL Big rigs beware: Although the pull-through site we reserved and stayed in was more than large enough, getting in to the loop was difficult. We had to go the wrong way down a one-way, and still scraped the bumper on an open gate. Roads are single-width and have some tight turns with rocks, trees, and structures making turns difficult. We camped at Promised Land State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Ole RV Resort, Goodlettsville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The park is clean and easy to access. No issues with water/electric/sewer. We did not use the park's restrooms or WiFi so can't comment on that. Staff was friendly. This is one of the few parks in the area that can accommodate a 45' 5th wheel + semi truck, but the available spots are less than ideal. The issues we had were proximity to very active train tracks and the highway; our site was VERY close to our neighbor's rig, making it awkward to even get to our vehicle; and the ground next to our rig -- where the power was located! -- was very swampy and took days to drain. The photos on the website are old and slightly deceptive; the "playground" was pretty dismal. We camped at Grand Ole RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Downtown Riverside RV Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Great location for exploring the city. Sites were pretty close side-to-side, but nice and long. We did have to park our second (tow) vehicle near the entrance rather than on our site. Roads & sites are gravel, except the central pull-throughs which are paved. Park takes Passport America 50% rate for up to 3 nights, then we used Good Sam for the remainder of our weekly stay. No issues w/electric or water. Not much in the way of amenities, but the bridge is gorgeous at night and it's neat to watch the barges go by. Gate is locked at night and you'll get a code to enter. I'd stay here again on our way through the area. We camped at Downtown Riverside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We RV Champions of Tyler (formerly RV Parks R us), Tyler, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Simple no-frills park 5 miles west of Tyler. Close to WalMart and fast food. Converted trailer park = nice BIG/long spacious sites. Premium sites include better pads, privacy fencing, and premium WiFi. Friendly management and workcampers. Reason I only gave it a 7 is because it's pretty bare-bones but has potential to be much more. Beware - anything heavy will sink in some spots if there's been a lot of rain. If you're driving a big rig like us (45' 5th wheel pulled by a semi) ask for spot #22 or 19 where you can back straight in, and the gravel pads are deep & long. Most gravel and asphalt pads in the first row is very thin. $1.50 per load for large-capacity W/D. Water pressure was low but not horrible. Interior road is gravel and a bit rutted but nice & wide, no trees. The only 2 pullthrough spots are difficult to access as they are at a 90-degree to road and are narrow. We loved site #22! We camped at We RV Champions of Tyler (formerly RV Parks R us) in a Fifth Wheel.

Texas Wine Country Jellystone Park Camp-Resort, Fredericksburg, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Great meeting facilities for reunions/rallies. Long level pullthroughs, 20' of grass between sites. Gravel roads and sites. Water pressure and taste was good, no issues w/sewer or electric. Lots of rain led to some standing water. Park staff very responsive to requests. Kids will have fun with jumping pillow & pool/splash pad. Very nice sized dog park. We had room on site 35 to park our 44' 5th wheel, 38' semi truck, and small car with room to spare. $1.50 wash/dry. Deer are prevalent and are likely to be spotted down by the creek at dawn/dusk. I would definitely stay here again if I could get the same rate. We camped at Texas Wine Country Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Country Place RV Park, Conroe, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Pros: Quiet and clean. Lots of area to walk the dog. Sherry (owner & front desk) is a gem. Resident dog, Sugar, is as sweet as her name. Laundry is $1.75 per load and requires a reloadable card. Dumpsters emptied frequently. Social activities (potlucks, bingo). Ponds are pretty and home to many fish, turtles, and ducks. There are some very long (70'-100') pullthrough sites. Cons: Construction of new subdivisions on both sides means less country and more noise. Dead trees need to be removed. 90% residential park = you don't see many folks out. Dirt roads. We lost power and water a couple of times due to the extreme freezing weather and the installation of new power poles along the road. We camped at Country Place RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects half off monthly rate via email offer. PROS: This is a relatively new park with wide concrete streets and lots. Pullthroughs are 80 feet long. Many amenities but no social events. CONS: Park has electrical problems (high voltage). Rules are not uniformly enforced. Residents do not clean up after their pets, and neither does the staff. Large population of unfriendly long-term residents. "Dog walk" is outside the fenced park itself. Laundry is $2.75 to wash a small load. We camped at Mont Belvieu RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Mustang Run RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Pros: Big rig friendly! All concrete roads & pads. Nice large sites, long pull-throughs, and ~15 feet btwn. sites. Garbage pickup every day. Decent cell signal on AT&T (2 bars). Lots of options for dining, shopping & services. Laundry is large & clean, $1.50/load. Never bothered by management or other guests. Didn't use the bathrooms/shower but they are tiled, large and clean. Cons: LOUD freeway noise all day & night. No trees/shade. "Dog park" is tiny but does allow your pooch to do his business off-leash. No hooks or bench for clothing in shower area. Very nice clubhouse but it's only open from 8 am - 4:30 p.m. (office hours). Pool is tiny (and of course closed in November). Price shown reflects discounted weekly rate of $240. We camped at Mustang Run RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Terrific value in this little park! Nice and quiet. Beautiful sunsets over the lakes. Police patrol several times a day. Hookups are all newer and in good shape - they are locked until you pay. Call when you arrive and an officer will come out to take payment, or you can stop at City Hall during business hours. It was pretty empty in late October, but you'll probably want reservations in the summer months. The website has all the info. you'll need. Half the sites are extra long pull-throughs, including 2 that must be at least 150 feet. We camped at Idle Hour Lake in a Fifth Wheel.
