Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Not a destination park, this was our second visit. We like the full service pull thrus, cable tv, and easy access to the area, all services, and the interstate all at a great price. We had a tough time getting level and site was just long enough for us. Not a lot of choice for dog walking. Liked the well placed trash can locations. Good Verizon and ATT. Nothing scenic about this place but perfectly functional and we would not hesitate to stay again. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

River View RV Park & Resort, Vidalia, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Can’t say enough good things about this lovely park. Well-maintained grounds, nice concrete sites (we had a pull thru that was plenty long enough for the fiver and the truck). Area for the W/S/E hookups was gravel covered as were the nice wide interior roads. The park is situated right on the river where it’s is great fun to watch the marine traffic. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Nice dog walking areas. No tv. Good Verizon. So/so WiFi and ATT. We really liked it here and would have stayed longer, but they were full up for the balloon festival. It’s a great location for seeing the sights in the area. We would definitely return. We camped at River View RV Park & Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park, West Memphis, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Repeat visitor here and love this park. It is rugged in spots, we were in the woods for this visit and past flooding issues were apparent, but that’s to be expected on the river side of the levee. Our paved pull through site was level and all services worked well. Water pressure was good. Great folks to deal with. Good place to contemplate “old man river” and as a base for exploring Memphis and the great river road. WiFi did not work for us and Verizon and ATT were very spotty. Some OTA tv channels (though we could not get NBC or FOX for some reason -important for the football watching half of our team). Nothing fancy here, but we love it and the Memphis area and will definitely be back. We camped at Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cape Camping & RV Park, Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Located on a business route off the interstate in the largest town between St Louis and Memphis (or so we were told) means this place gets some road noise and is spendier than a similar campground located elsewhere. It worked great for us as we enjoyed our great river road adventure. Our pullthru gravel site was almost level, was plenty long enough, and had functional W/S/E and cable tv. Neighbors are very close separated by narrow patches of grass. Some sites had picnic table and / or fire ring; ours’ did not. Grounds were very well tended and office staff were lovely. Pool was closed for season. Good Verizon and ATT. OK WiFi. Lots of green area for pet walking and a lovely pond area with a walking path. Main interior roads were paved and in good shape. This place suited us just fine for multi-day stay while exploring area. We would return. We camped at Cape Camping & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cozy C RV Campground, LLC, Bowling Green, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Mixed feelings about this park. When we called to reserve, we were told a pullthru could not be guaranteed. When we got there we discovered why - the long gravel-covered sites are buddied; one half is pullthru, filled first. Second unit assigned there backs in to the back of the pulled through unit. We also discovered upon arrival that the advertised good Sam discount would only be honored if we paid by cash/check. The place is not dog-friendly. The printed rules instruct that dogs can ONLY do their business in an area to be accessed across a pretty long walk, most of it gravel. Of course, any dog owner knows how tough that is to comply with, particularly when the “no pets” green areas were completely empty. [[Sigh]]. Having said all that, this was an ok place to base for this part of driving the great river road. Our W/S/E site was long enough though not level. There was cable tv and the price was great. The campground sits between a US highway and a side road so there is road noise and you can hear the train, neither of these things bother us. Verizon was spotty, ATT was non-existent and there was no WIFI (although there may have been a connection available for an additional fee). We would consider staying here again if in the area but would probably look around for something else. We camped at Cozy C RV Campground, LLC in a Fifth Wheel.

Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA, Rock Island, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Older, very soggy campground with some pretty amenities and a good place for base camp to explore the surrounding area. We were escorted to our extra long, gravel-covered pullthru site with functional W/S/E. Site was level, shaded, and quite narrow. We discovered that the reason the site was so long is that it was comprised of two back-in sites complete with double hookups. The area has suffered lots of flooding this year and this KOA was not spared. Things were very muddy and there was lots of unmown grass. The whole place could use some TLC. Pretty pond and nice-looking pool which was closed. Park is situated in an industrial area and the train is very close. Cable tv which was “messed up” as to what channels were where, but we supplemented with OTA for football games (crucial in our trailer). Weak VERIZON and ATT. Great WiFi. Close to grocery, gas, restaurants, etc. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nelson's Landing RV Park, Nelson, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park under the bluffs overlooking the Great River Road in Wisconsin. There is no office on site. We called for a reservation and used PayPal to pay (a first for us and one more cash / check only campgrounds should consider). All details about site number, bathroom code, WIFI password, etc are in the confirmation email. Our pullthru site was long, level, gravel-covered with W/E/S though it was a little hard to find as the site numbers are facing the wrong way as you drive towards the pullthru area. Nice paved patio with lovely picnic table. The sewer hookup was odd - a piece of PVC pipe extended it so it was sort of up-hill to empty tanks. Good interior gravel roads. Great WiFi. Verizon and ATT was spotty to non-existent even though it was showing full-bars LTE. No cable or OTA tv. Plenty of green area for the dog and you can walk to the creamery on WI 35 and to downtown Nelson. LOTS of trains, day and night and an old-fashioned noon whistle, both of which we found charming but which could be an annoyance. We used this site as a base for exploring up and down river and it worked well for that. We would return if in the area. We camped at Nelson's Landing RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Jackson KOA, Jackson, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty typical KOA Journey. Convenient from I-90. Long enough, level, gravel-covered pullthrough with functional W/S/E. Sites are very close together; neighbor’s grill was almost under our kitchen window. No cable. Spotty WiFi. Ok Verizon and ATT. Bumpy access road and tight interior roads. There was a dog park in the back of the park, but we couldn’t find a way to get to it without walking through other sites. Plenty of green space for doggy at front of park. We would return to this KOA if in the area. We camped at Jackson KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Praire View RV Park & Campground, Granite Falls, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Really nice, super clean, well-maintained, beautifully landscaped park run by the near-by casino. Long, paved, level, pull-thru full service sites which were very wide so there was no sardine effect. A nice touch was the stone-covered area at the hookups for drainage (lots of rain while we were there but no mud puddle standing to unhook). Wonderful dog area. Trash cans at top of every site. Recycle cans easily accessible. Pool privileges at the hotel. Lots of visible security. Gas station at the casino. We used this park as a base to see the area, including the Minnesota River Scenic Byway. We made our reservation a week ahead and wanted to stay longer but they were full for the weekend. About the only criticism is that there was no cable tv, but there were several OTA stations. We would gladly stay here again, given the opportunity. We camped at Praire View RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Bemidji KOA, Bemidji, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park located perfectly for us to base camp as we explored the surrounding area. We were escorted to our 30 amp W/S/E gravel pull through that wasn’t quite level, but it was no big deal - 2” board under one side. Nice long site so parking was easy. Pretty close neighbors, but trees and grass between so didn’t feel squeezed. We did laundry here and enjoyed chatting with one of the nice campground hosts. Pool looked nice; they were covering it for the winter when we got there. Nice, well-stocked store. Acceptable WiFi for basic web access. 2 bars LTE Verizon, no ATT. Right off US 2 but no road noise that we noticed. 2 small fenced dog areas. We were here four days and would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Bemidji KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Penmarallter Campsite, Two Harbors, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is an immaculate well-maintained campground with owners on-site and obviously enthusiastic about their chosen life’s work. We had a lovely, level pull through with water and 30 amp (honey wagon available, sanitary dump available). Sites were luxuriously sized with lovely brick fire rings for campfire enjoyment. WIFI was great, though we never use campground WIFI to stream video - good Verizon, limited ATT. The campground is situated between MN 61 and it’s “scenic” counterpart, also near a railroad. This was not an issue for us but there was some associated noise. Great base for visiting the north shore. Cash or check only. We would definitely return if in the area. We camped at Penmarallter Campsite in a Fifth Wheel.

Arrowhead RV Resort, Ely, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We were satisfied with this park as it offered full hookups and level pull-through sites in an area where these tough to find. There’s nothing posh or scenic about the place and there were no amenities that we saw which did make us question the high rate. In-town location made it convenient for groceries and gas. Close to all activities. No cable tv. Acceptable WIFI and Verizon. No ATT. Security gate and office close pretty early; security gate code comes in confirmation receipt. Sites are close together and would feel cramped if the campground was full. We did not have near neighbors so it was fine. Just remember this campground is what it is - a base for seeing the area while using the amenities in your rv. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Arrowhead RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Minneapolis Northwest KOA, Rogers, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty nice KOA near the “sights” in the Twin Cities area. We had a pull thru W/E and used the sanitary dump provided on our way out. Our site was a “buddy” site with shared utility pole on one side and shared green area on door side (not my favorite but the lots were wide enough for some privacy). Things got pretty muddy when it rained and some of the sites were under water, though everything dried up nicely when the sun came out. No cable TV. Decent campground grade WIFI. 3 bars LTE Verizon and solid ATT signal. Nice pool. Nice people who were always working around the park. Nice fenced dog area. We would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Minneapolis Northwest KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We loved it here. Remote and quiet. Sweet small park near a sweet small town. Beach access in town and a couple miles up the road. Bayfield about half an hour away. Water electric only with sewer dump available. Nice long level shaded pull through with ok interior roads. Sites are a little close together. There is no check-in process. We had reserved ahead of time and found our name posted on our site. We did not see owners or hosts. No wifi, 3 bars Verizon LTE and ok ATT. dump station is on the wrong side with a long extender hose provided. We camped at South Shore Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Union River Big Bear Campground, Silver City, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We had a blast here. It's pretty isolated, across the road from Lake Superior for sunset watching and beach access and is near the entrance to Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park. We had one of the few pull thrus which was level gravel with water and electric. No sewer hookups, but there is a dump, though it was a little hard to get to. No cell service at all but we had pretty good luck with the campground WiFi for basic online needs. The state park feel of this place included the eclectic mix of tents, campers, and rvs and the fun people we met. Lots of campfires even a central one one night. It was a good base to hike in the wonderful state park. Nearest gas and grocery is 15 miles away in Ontonagon. Small camp store in the state park. If you like rugged state park campgrounds with just a few more amenities you'll like this place. We would definitely return if in the area. We camped at Union River Big Bear Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
