John Prince Park Campground, Lake Worth, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This is a County park. County residents pay less. We stop here when we are in the area to visit friends in Boynton. We like this park and the lake is beautiful. As previously noted, jet skis and boats are not annoying. Have kayaked here a few years ago. Waterfront sites are for 14 days or less. Longer term site are just across the road, or further back. I do not see any pull thru sites. They have a 90 day out booking. They will not book prior to 90 days out. Had to rearrange my plans as a "Garlick Festival" completely booked the campground. Congress (main thoroughfare) and the surrounding area have any restaurant or store that you ever visited. We camped at John Prince Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Publix in either direction on Congress. Publix is the only place to buy baked goods, as no bakeries. Home Depot near. Fuel stations and drug stores galore. My friend took us to Golden Coral (none on Long Island) and also to a chinese buffet. Both, the food was delicious. There are the normal ones (Chilies, Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden and so on).

Holiday Travel Park, Holiday, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This is an Encore park, so zero cost for our TT plan. Glad of that as we would be unhappy if the was costing us. Roads all blacktop, but some tight turns. Site numbers start at one and stop a 591. While driving around, I am guessing that there are 30 (??) sites for RV's. Those are all back-ins, and in one area. We are (not in that area) in between a single wide mobile home and the bathrooms & dumpster. Have not visited the bathrooms, but there are folks cleaning every day. I am surprised that many of the permanent residents use the bath house. Just about every mobile home has a carport. Took me 30 minutes to back into my site (with the help of worker and two residents). Very tight to put a 40' into designated site. I carry a second fresh water hose, as the 25' did not make it to the water spicket, shared with another mobile-home. The good news is that the over/air was good (ABC,NBC,CBS). Tampa towers not far. Long term residents can have Spectrum cable hooked up. Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, beer and liquor stores close. Plenty of restaurants on the main Hwy (Route 19). Route 19 has heavy traffic in the morning and afternoon. Nice pool and club house. Here during an 8 day heat wave, as daily temps above 80, up to 85 and humid. Plenty of 50 amp, as A/C's ran all day. Met many friendly neighbors. Parked car on side of MH, just enough room. We camped at Holiday Travel Park in a Motorhome.

Peace River RV & Camping Resort (Thousand Trails), Wauchula, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Arrived at 3 PM. There is a "lottery" here at 1 PM every day (for full hook-ups) . If that is what you want, your name goes on a list. Our name was put on the list for full-hook ups, probably # 10. Parked in a w/e only, overnight, as no F/H available. Drove the park with list (given out daily after 12 noon) If there is a site open and you like, park in it and notify office. Next day, after some leave park, another list is given. Pick an empty spot, and wait for lottery at 1:00. As they call out names, when yours is called, pick a site you like (that has not been taken by a name on the list that is prior to yours). Move in. Really first come, first in. Little long wording, but be prepared. 460 sites, the bulk are W/E only. All are back in, with (usually) room for auto. Most F/H have fire ring, table and cement patio. Here during President Week, lot of kiddies. Area A on slope, so many kids on bikes cruising down road. Mostly shade, w/some full sun sites. W/D, pool, hot tub, shuffle board, pickle court, musicians on occasion, ice-cream socials ($1/bowl). Many activities. Boat ramp on the Peace River. Entered river at County Park up river, 2 hour kayak trip to Camp. Nice scenery, saw many crocks sunning on the sides. Saw many folks panning in the river for artifacts. Mostly found small sharks teeth. Office has other item found in river. Must go to Arcadia to the meat market!! We camped at Peace River RV & Camping Resort (Thousand Trails) in a Motorhome.

Dinner at MATERZ (27N), south of campground, is the place to go. There are 2 Mexican restaurants on Main St in Walchula. Normal fast food, Winn Dixie, Walmart near by. Must go to K&J Homegrown Produce and Farmers Market (2228 SE Highway 70, Arcadia) . Great meat pricing, and fresh.

Orlando RV Resort (Thousand Trails), Clermont, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Very large Campground w/845 sites. Here for 14 days as Thousand Trails member (membership works for us as we camp 6-7 months a year, but doubt for weekend campers). Some pull-thru, most back-in. Our site had cement slab for MH, grass w/picnic table. No fire ring, but many campers bring their own. Full hook-ups and basic tent sites. Boat launch on Lake Hancock (area D) and fishing from dock area. Nightly crowd there to watch fire-works from Disney. No swimming there as gators may be there also. During busy season, newcomers (with/without reservations) line up at noon at entrance. Before then, new campers are turned away, to come back at noon. We arrived at 3PM, went right to parking lot where you are met with golf cart person, and guided to a site. We were told by friends inside to ask for one of three sites that were open. We took one that was close to them. We use a Verizon MiFi. Reception was slooooow. Used phone hotspot and was somewhat better. Did not use the bath or w/d which was close. Usual camp store with food and camping gear. Fresh vegetable stand daily. Located on Route 27. Just south is Route 193 that takes you to Disney (World, Springs, Celebration and all else.) If you look for a restaurant or a gift store, they are along the route. Not sure if these gift stores are less costly than if in Disney. Retired military (DOD/VA disability, and a few more) go to "Shades of Green", ARMY owned hotel. There you can buy discounted tickets to any of the attractions. You can also stay there. Believe they charge by rank!! We camped at Orlando RV Resort (Thousand Trails) in a Motorhome.

As noted, 20 minutes from Disney. Restaurants galore. Check out Delavanneys Irish Pub, just south on Rt 27. Walmarts, Publix, BJ's either direction. Traffic can be bad on Rt 27 and on 193. Keep in mind that the entrance to Campground at noon is bumper to bumper for 45 minutes plus. Celebration is owned by Disney, and has many quaint shops.

The Oaks at Point South, Yemassee, South Carolina

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Easy drive from main Hwy. GPS led us off by 1 block and into a museum. Large parking lot to make U turn so that was OK. Correct road (KOA sign, none for TT) leads into a "T". TT to left, KOA to right. Received site # and rules/map. Site was gravel, but muddy into and out of. Short stay, otherwise would request larger site (many unoccupied) where MH and toad would fit unhooked. Some tight turns, but navigable. Cable was good, some channels no good. OK for stop over. Probably good during warmer weather. We camped at The Oaks at Point South in a Motorhome.

Nature's Resort RV Park, Homosassa, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Traveled from Mayport Naval Station (Jacksonville). Arrived at 3:30 PM. Trip had much road construction on the way. Should be a nice ride when all completed. Checked in, paid the balance. Only received a high-lighted map. No rules or info about things happening. She was busy on the phone with a person needing info on boat rentals. No one assisted in finding the site. Some very tight turns, missing large oak trees. Drove around for 20 minutes, finding the site, after a few circles. (Previously infantry and was noted as excellent map reader) Pull-thru's, close to neighbors, Just fit my 40 footer. Was told that this area of camp is fairly new, with small trees planted. Front tires almost in the air to level. Backed up as much as I could, still big drop from step to ground. Gravel site with cement area for patio. El cable just made the box. Large campground, with some permanent sites. All appear to be close. Cable TV had 60 channels, good reception on all. Did not use WiFi, as told was spotty. Shower in MH, late morning Saturday, water pressure low. Many campers had brought fire rings, as none at sites. There are many Campgrounds in the area. The area of Homosassa Springs and near-by Crystal River, brings many snow birds. There was a Manatee Festival In Crystal Springs during our short stay, but didnt go. We camped at Nature's Resort RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp), Mayport, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Called in September, only one waterfront site available. Concrete slab w/patio apron. Actually, it is really 1st row, w/unobstructed view of the St Johns River. 100 yards(+/-) from water. Watched dolphins along with the many fishermen on the large rip-rap erosion control along the river. There is a new dog park, very large. Easy access to sites. Pull-thru's only on 1st row, rest are back-in's. There is a commissary, off post, mile away. They sell beer at the gas station, as you enter post. Good campground, that take reservations 6 months out, and can stay up to 28 days, when available. 47 total sites, all w/full hook-ups. There is also (adjoining Pelican Roost) campground Osprey Cove Park. 50 sites, but not reviewed here. There is also WiFi available. No charge, but limited to 60 hours/month, not secured. Bring your own WIFI. Free cable w/99 stations, all great (except the history channel). We camped at Pelican Roost RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Sycamore Lodge, Jackson Springs, North Carolina

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

While at the Hershey PA show in September, vendor promotion. Three free days, in addition, 21 days plus $50 visa card. Very nice private campground. Must be member to camp here. No rates, 14 day limit, no sites for sale, no long term campers. Campground has many activities during the season. Grounds are beautiful and are highly maintained. The clubhouse (very interesting log home) was a residence for the owner of a peach farm. All pull-thru's (long enough for MH and toad) and back-in sites are spaced nicely with shrubbery between. Lake with sites overlooking, along with cabins. Lake is catch-n-release. One pool, with another in planning. Golf carts available for day use, or rentals available. There is no additional charges for the kayaks, canoes, badminton rackets, or other activities. Aberdeen is the closest town with the usual Walmart, drug stores and eateries. This is one of the nicest campgrounds I have stayed at. We camped at Sycamore Lodge in a Motorhome.

Camp Meade RV Park (Military FamCamp), Fort Meade Army Post, Maryland

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Travel from Long Island, and this is always our 1st stop. There is construction at the entrances to the post. Tight turn until at camp gate. Entrance to office parking lot to narrow, as evidenced by the tire marks on the curb. We come here for the commissary, the PX, and the class 6 store. The rate has again increased. No cable at site (connector is there) and no WIFI. Seems a lot (45) for what you get. Fort Belvoir (not far) has a new campground and charge $50/nite. They offer a lot more than Fort Meade. The rates must reflect the closeness to the DC area. Interior road has some big potholes. The pull thru's usually for MH and Toad. We camped at Camp Meade RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Williamsburg, Outdoor World , Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Were to spend 2 days on way South, spent one. Easy access from Hwy. That ended at gate. Called ranger, gate opened. Saw no sign with where clubhouse located. Blacktop roads narrow and bumpy. Tho there were 3/4 golf carts and 3/4 workers coming from clubhouse, no one to help me to site. Picked a site that was told big enough for my 40' MH with toad. Followed rangers directions, should have come another way. Had to maneuver thru empty site, between (narrowly) large oak trees. Ended with hitch hanging on road. From road to road, 45'. Site was large, with table and fire pit. Parked car next to MH. The location here is good to attend the many attractions in the area. Would not call this a destination site, but it IS January and we wanted a stop-over heading south. During the summer, sites are still close and roads will be the same. Doubt if I will use as a stop-over in the future. We camped at Williamsburg, Outdoor World in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

As you drive in, stop at light pole. There you can P/U registration form. Drop in black box at building entrance. 12 full hook-ups, more with electric only. FMCA should add water to those sites. Arrived at 12:30 PM. on Friday. Only one full hook-up that just opened. By 6 PM, no full H/U's and there were six MH's at the electric only sites. (Met one camper (maybe more) that were here waiting for snow to leave in Northern US). Never saw any one from FMCA (offices closed Sat/Sun) 2 free nights and 5 additional ($20/) per month. Large F/H/U concrete pads with plenty of room for MH and toad. Electric only sites on blacktop. We stayed extra day, put $20 in their envelope and placed in black drop box at entrance. Enjoyed our stay We camped at FMCA Campground (FMCA members only) in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Have visited Gatlinburg before and stayed in the KOA in Newport. Arrived with light snow!!. Campground nicest one we have been in, in quite awhile. Looked like new gravel over entire park. Some foliage between sites. We had a pull thru (probably smallest in park), but room for leaving toad hooked up. Had planned on visiting Gatlinburg, but nite temps went to below freezing. Cold, stayed in warm MH. Folks very nice, guided me to site. Back-ins were spacious. Pricey, but would come back in warmer weather. We camped at Gatlinburg East / Smoky Mountain KOA in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Staying 4 nites. Given a map, with two (50A) sites to check. Both were up a hill and tight. Picked the better. Was charged $3 a nite for 50A. Hear that this is becoming standard in parks. This time of year, should have asked for 30A. Many seasonal/permanent sites. Drove around camp, not many level sites. Our site, 4' slope on passenger side, no place for a chair. BBQ almost on road. Picnic table (none) would have been on 30 degree slope. Grass on slope needs to be cut!!. Questionable return. We camped at Thousand Trails / Carolina Landing in a Motorhome.
