Wind Creek State Park, Alexander City, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

It is a nice park, large in size but in need of some serious maintenance upgrades. The park roads are narrow, the sites are close together and the pads are need of some repairs, there are roots coming up on some of them and the picnic tables are terrible.. There is good 4G Verizon but due to all the trees, satellite TV was basically a no go. The numbers for the sites are suppose to be on the road but are so faded they are hard to read. There is laundry but it's minimal-4 washers/2dryers but only $1.00. This is a summer destination for local people. Lake Martin is a huge lake with all matter of water sports on it. This park must be jamming in "the season" but while we were here, early March for 2 weeks, it was very quiet and isolated. We had a nice view of one of the coves and enjoyed watching the geese and other water birds. Big complaints about this park. One is their reservation policy. Mar-Oct you can only reserve for minimum 7 days on line. If you want a site for the weekend or a few days, you have to take your chances on drive up. But the kicker is that the web site reservation let us reserve for 17 days so imagine our surprise when we were told on arrival that we could have our site for 14 days but then have to move for the next 3 days/2 nights! Sorry if we need to move-we will really move-out. Two is their security gate: You need to put a code in 2 gates to get into the camping area. But the key pads are extremely hard to reach from your truck or car, especially when you are hauling a trailer. 2 weeks here was about a week too long. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park, Huntington, West Virginia

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stay here every year traveling south. It can be wet around the sites but they have improved the pads by adding new gravel and to the roads. A lot less monthly campers too. There is a train track right next to the camp ground and trains run through at least 1 or 2/night. But we can't say enough good things about the manager. We pulled in with what ended up being being a minor problem with our truck. She pulled out her phone, made a call and got us to a great mechanic right near-by. Good to know people still care. We camped at Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Henry Horton State Park, Chapel Hill, Tennessee

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

A lovely setting in the woods. Very quiet. The sites are all paved but many are very un-level, slopping front to back and/or side to side. Our site, 39, was a back-in and not too bad to adjust for leveling. 4G service was weak & Verizon 3g was strong. No way for satellite with the trees and HD antenna was spotty. But a pleasant place to get off the road and relax. We were here for 2 nights, had a campfire and just hung out. Love this state park. We camped at Henry Horton State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

T. O. Fuller State Park, Memphis, Tennessee

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I wish I could say wonderful things about this park because we love to support state parks but it is simply okay. It's a tired old park that needs some love to make it better. The sites are all paved but un-level. Either sloping front to back and/or side to side. In fact our original site, a pull though, was so bad we had to move to a back-in. The camp host was very nice and helpful in that regard. Do Not use any of the pull though, 4-9, because they are all so un-level. The park is quiet but there is a smell coming from the refinery near-by on occasion. We stayed here 2 nights to visit downtown Memphis. Not very good 4G but regular cell ok and satellite was "okay". As I said it's a tired old park that needs some love. We camped at T. O. Fuller State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Maumelle COE, Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

A gem of a park. Sits right next to the Arkansas River. So peaceful. The sites are all paved and ours was a back-in and sat facing the river. B1 Not terribly level back to front but it worked. Great cell service & our satellite got good svc. Sadly only there over night but next time it will be longer. Really loving these COE's. We camped at Maumelle COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Springhill Park Campground COE, Barling, Arkansas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

What a little gem!! Nice setting in the forest with view of the river though the trees. We were in the B-loop. Not quite level back-in but leveled off easily. No sewer but water & 50AMP. Easy to follow signage. Only noise was with the planes over-head on approach to Arrowhead Assault & Chaffe Airforce base. But those stopped by 9PM. We camped at Springhill Park Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Wanderlust Crossings RV Park, Weatherford, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a new park and someone paid attention to details. It's basically in 2 sections with long term in the back & short terms in the front. Level pull throughs & back up's on concrete. Spacious sites, full hook-ups. There is a lovely laundry w/new washers&dryers. There is even a coin operated dog wash that we took advantage with our 2 dirty Corgis. We used this as a "catch-up" stay--2 days for laundry, resting & groceries. Would stay again!! We camped at Wanderlust Crossings RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Route 66 RV Resort, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Crazy that an RV park would be so nice and attached to a Casino but it is. Full hook ups and pull-though. Spacious sites with nice level pads. We were at the far end which which was great with the dogs. No cable and due to high winds we didn't set-up our satellite but were able to pull in near-by digital stations from Albuquerque. Great over night, quiet and easy in-out. We camped at Route 66 RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

OK RV Park, Holbrook, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

About the only good thing about this park was the laundry available...it was clean with new washers and good dryers. But the office people were rude from the moment I checked in. She put the map of the park on the counter and proceeded to mark, with a black marker, all the rules. Made the point that if we didn't follow, we would be asked to leave....Seriously?? All the sites are long but very narrow so they can stagger park RV's making things very tight. Plus it seemed that they put everyone in one section so there were 6-8 in one area while the rest of the park was empty. Not easy to pull out or back in with all the sewer hook-ups, electric and water along the sides. Plus not level and our picnic table had a broken seat. The electric has no circuit breaker on the post. Not safe. There is nothing nice about this place but if you want to visit the Petrified Forest& Painted Desert, there aren't a lot of choices in the area. We camped at OK RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

White Tank Regional Park, Waddell, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a few days while visiting friends. It is a lovely setting and easy back in. Nice area around the fire pit. We had 2 really big complaints: 1) the is only one shower(m&f) for all of the campground. There is no sewer hook-up so if you are there for more than a couple of days, it's a hardship. Plus the push bottom shower only stayed for abou 30secs. 2) There is a gate for after hours which is nice however it is an awful set-up. It's a combination lock with dial. There is no light on it & your auto lights don't help. Plus it right next to a cattle grate making walking scary. They need to have a lift arm gate. I can't say the camp hosts were very friendly--no one was. But the views are amazing and the stars are amazing at night plus great sunrises. We camped at White Tank Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rock Hound State Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Another hidden jem for NM. Again a ways from any where BUT the views are to die for. We sat out for a camp fire and had a beautiful "moon rise". However....backing into some of these sites is not easy. We basically backed up a steep grade, in 4-wheel drive, into a site that had a wall on one side and an open ditch on the other. Plus the site was not level. But having said that we'd come back for the view alone--AWESOME. We camped at Rock Hound State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This was a hidden jem of a park. Yes you drive back for 7miles thinking "where am I am going" and then you are at this lovely park next to awesome cliffs and beautiful little lake. We loved this place. Some of the back-in's have sewers hook-up's but for an overnight we just had a pull-though. Nice walking for the dogs too. San Antonio / Alamo KOA, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

A surprise for a KOA--not right next to the highway! It's tucked away and large with nice shaded sites. We up-graded to have sewer so we also had a nice little brick patio outside our door with grass spot in the front. A plus was access to a county paved walk/bike path, nice walk with the dogs. We were only here overnight but would like to have stayed longer. We camped at San Antonio / Alamo KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
