Ja-Mar RV Resort, South, Port Richey, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very large park with a lot of long term residents. The staff were adequate but somewhat impersonal and residents seemed to know each other but not outsiders. The ground around sites was sandy and tracked in because it was raining. Facilities were fine and they had a great music jam on Thursday nights as well as other activities. We camped at Ja-Mar RV Resort, South in a Motorhome.

If you are in this area be sure to visit Tarpon Springs, a Greek sponge fishing village that has become quite a tourism site, but fun to visit.

Homosassa River RV Resort (formerly Turtle Creek), Homosassa Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large park with a lot of long-timers, but everything was neat and attractive. Close to everything in Homosassa Springs. The sign at the gate says Homosassa Springs, they were formerly Turtle Bay, and our book called them Carefree. This was rather confusing. We had little contact with the office, but they were friendly and helpful. We camped at Homosassa River RV Resort (formerly Turtle Creek) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Homosassa Springs was a great place. We went on a boat to snorkel with the manatees and visited the Homosassa Nature Center which is outstanding. There are lots of little restaurants and bars and we enjoyed an afternoon of music at the Old Mill. The roads in the park were ok, but cars were parked close to the road which made it a little difficult to maneuver.

Hitchin Post Corral and Campground, Cottondale, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park had the best customer service of any I have used. They met us at the gate and welcomed us, showed us to the site and helped us get settled, including a door mat, offered information about local activities and checked on us whenever they saw us. It is a new campground, the facilities are pleasant, in the midst of trees, and a lake on the property is available for fishing or just sitting. We camped at Hitchin Post Corral and Campground in a Motorhome.

Galveston Island State Park, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a week at Galveston Island RV Park and then stored our RV there for another week while we went on a cruise. The staff were very helpful and facilities excellent. They are really working on providing activities for visitors and even have a shuttle to take groups of people into activities in town or to the cruise ship port. The park is 18 miles West of the town of Galveston, which is great for peace and quiet if you're not looking for city activities. We camped at Galveston Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Galveston is a great town with an historic downtown, an amusement park, historic mansion, railroad museum, Sea Wolf park with a battleship and a submarine and fishing, a great opera house, and a free ferry to take you East to Port Bolivar. I enjoyed the Mardi Gras with music and parades. The island also has a state park and lots of beaches to walk.

River View RV Park & Resort, Vidalia, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here a couple of nights while visiting Natchez (such an interesting and historical place. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the park is beautiful - right on the Mississippi River with a river walk to enjoy it. It is large with lots of open grassy spaces. Our site was one of the less expensive ones, but be aware of the Louisiana 10% tax and Passport only good one night. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We camped at River View RV Park & Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

So much to do in Natchez - large 1800s estates, National Park Historic sites including Natchez Indians, lives of slaves, and lives of a freed black family, a great river walk on both sides of the river, the Natchez Trace that goes all the way to Nashville, National Wildlife sites, and lots of good restaurants.

The park is West of Del Rio on the highway. It has a great line dancing class twice a week which is well attended by residents and locals, most of whom stay for the Winter. We visited the Seminole State Park rock art site and Amistad Recreation areas.

Cactus Cart RV Park, Brownsville, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

One of the friendliest parks I've encountered. Brick patios and grass around. It's a very small park with few activities but staff and other campers very helpful. Located close to the airport so some noise, but didn't disrupt us. It's in town so easy to access lots of places. The brick patio and brand new outdoor grill were nice. We stayed for a week, but most of the people were there for the Winter. We camped at Cactus Cart RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cactus Cart is located in Brownsville, so easy access to anywhere we wanted to go. We did a lot of birding and there are numerous great locations nearby. Not far from South Padre Island either.
